Here's 3, from left to right. 1943 Remington Rand, marked "US government property" "M1911A1 US Army". She's my favorite. Sadly, it's not mine, belongs to my GF, who inherited it from her grandfather that served in WWII and the Korean War.

The other 2 are Colt Govt. model mark IIII's, series 80. The middle one has a custom fitted slide, match barrel and bushing, and Pachmayer grips.

THe one on the right is bone stock.

I picked up a Les Baer the other day, and man do they make my Colt's feel like a brick!'

I love it, carry one of them quite a bit when i am not taking the XD9SC out. had a custom IWB holster made for it.
the other one hasn't been shot, hasn't been touched and will probably remain that way!

I have plans to someday send them both in to the custom shop and have them decked out! I really want the punisher skull on both of them somewhere. will probably buy the nice punisher grips the guy sells on ebay and gunbroker.

same ones blackford76 has.

Thanks that is what I figured. I have never had an issue with the ext extractor on my pro carry II either. Funny how people seem to make a huge deal out of problems that are not really there. Think it more lack of cleaning, care, and general knowledge of how it works where most suffer.

I had a buddy try to shoot it and he had problems because his hands were to big to get a good grip on it (FTE FTF). I shot it right after him and haven't ever had a problem. I think it was slopping around to much in his hand to be reliable.

Fantastic!

I wish I could say that I made the US ones, but I bought those. I only made the slim grips, they are 3mm thick. Super slim and really comfortable.

I started with a 1 X 6 piece of red oad and worked and carved them from there.

Thanks

My two mutts. Top started with a RIA frame and then I just bought everything else. Did spend about 20 hours getting everything fitted. Great shooter with the touches I wanted for under $500.

Bottom is a Llama circa 72 in 38 super. It had issues when I bought it but a little work and it runs like a top for $90. surprisingly accurate and fun to shoot.

I think it's bad etiquette to say "stain" and "crap" in the same sentence when referring to your bedspread. Is this post about my bedspread or about 1911 pictures since everyone is so concerned about my bedspread it is probably a stain from one of my 2 small children, if it makes you guys feel better it is no longer there as we wash our bedding every other day. 1960's Vintage Colt 1911A1 70 Series: (No Photo)

The Kimber Ultra Carry is by far the best shooter with the old Series 70 a close second. Never had a failure with either and I stopped keeping track of how much I shot the Ultra after about 6k rounds. I think the Gold Combat will eventually become the most accurate. I just haven't shot it enough to break it in. I've never fired the .38 Super. The Combat Elite only has a few mags through it as well but so far so good. The CE trigger just can't compare to the Kimbers or the old Colt.

Is this post about my bedspread or about 1911 pictures since everyone is so concerned about my bedspread it is probably a stain from one of my 2 small children, if it makes you guys feel better it is no longer there as we wash our bedding every other day. Now that it has been addressed can we get back to what the thread is about thanks and have a nice day.

I'm pretty partial to Kimbers myself. I was one of 19 Master Dealers on their Dealer Advisory Board in 2006 and 2007. They'd fly us out to Vegas once a year for a big banquet and to fondle guns and we got to tour the factory in NY. They'd always make a big deal out of asking all of the dealers on the board what they should do, what models would we like to see and so on.

Then they'd go and do whatever they wanted. But, I got 2 free trips to Vegas with a helluva lot of free food and booze and a free trip to NY to tour the factory. So, it was worth it.

I love reading what some of the Kimber haters say online...most of it isn't true and is downright funny.

They must be doing something right. They sell every gun they can build 3 months before it's even built.

There is always someone out there that has to hate on some ones gun no matter what brand it is, look what happened when I put up my pictures some one said it was a bunch of crap when half of them you cant even tell what they are in the picture, that is just the way it is I dont hate Kimbers and I dont exactly like them either I would not own one but that is me and I have been known to bash kimbers from time to time, everyone has there 1911's that they like, I like S&W there is people out there that think S&W should not make 1911's I like the Kimber guys that say that, then I have to explain to them that S&W used to make there frames slides and some small parts anyone remember when kimber could not get the external extractor down that was when S&W was making there parts, I have got into it with my die hard Kimber friends and they will say things like buy a Kimber and you will have a real 1911 at that point we go out to the range and that SS PT1911 has not let me down yet, all the people I have come across think cause they have a high dollar gun they automaticly can shoot, I put in hours apon hours with my guns and thousands of dollars in ammo, for along time every time I got mad I would go shoot until what ever was bothering me was gone it is amazing how well you can become acquainted with your firearm. I have had Desert Eagle Para Ordnance RIA S&W Taurus Sig 1911's and alot of other 1911's I could keep going on but what is the point I have been very pleased with all of them, I have not owned a 1911 that I have not liked yet. I was shooting a hand soap container at 100 yards with my GSG 1911-22 yesterday it was pretty sweet.

AFAIK S&W never built slides and frames for Kimber, they were involved yes, but they simply sent raw forgings to an outfit owned by Kimber called Jerico where they were made to resemble slides and frames then sent to Kimber to be finished.

I dont know if it is a coincidence that Kimber had a external extractor that did not work that well at all for a while, and S&W all have externals and rumor is that S&W made there slides but who knows maybe it is just a big fat coincidence. Here is part of some of the research I have done, just had to find it in my CP.

Smith & Wesson--once again American-owned--is committed to building what shooters want, and shooters want Government Model .45s. And it's a relatively easy pistol for S&W to make. For several years the company has had excess manufacturing capacity and has been making all kinds of different parts for other firearms companies. It is not well known, but this traditional maker of top-notch revolvers also makes bolt actions for Remington and Weatherby, pistol receivers and slides for other well-known manufacturers.

Dwight Van Brunt of Kimber Manufacturing went on record in an issue of gun tests (Nov. 2003) and said "Kimber does not and never has used 'castings' for slides and frames"
"Kimber does not and never has sourced the machining of slides or
frames. We have always done it ourselves in Yonkers."
"Our relationship with Smith and Wesson has been limited to
purchasing raw forgings - little more than a brick of steel. Further,
S&W is just one of several sources for forgings we have done business
with in the past."

ETA: Do you have a source on those claims Atrain?

I can't speak as far back as 2001. When I was there in 2007 Kimber made everything in house except some grips.

I was under the impression that the only thing they got from S&W was the forgings...just like Graves said. That's all I've ever heard of.

Besides...what difference does it/would it make anyway? Lots of gun makers get parts from outside sources. It's not like it's something new.

And re: Kimber's attempt at an external extractor. The whole thing over the external extractors wasn't so much that they didn't work. Very few of the guns had issues. The real problem was the customer didn't like them because real 1911s have internal extractors. After almost a year, Kimber listened to their customers and switched back. Not only that but due to all the bitching they replaced the slide of any external extractor gun for any customer that wanted it at no charge.

Not too many companies are that responsive.

Here's my secondary or even third tier 1911. LOL Metroarms AC Commander. I have run about 2500 relatively trouble free handloads thru it. 230gr lead bullets. I had to adjust the slide catch and adjust the tension on the extractor when new. Bullets feeding up thru the mag would bump the slide catch and cause it to randomly hold the slide open. I adjusted the extractor tension and ejector to stop the cases from being thrown in my face. For $275 + tax it's a good shooter. Super accurate. Bluing virtually nonexistent. Recommend it to anyone that wants a great shooter for a super low cost and isn't worried about tweaking a couple things on the pistol. I bought some cheap grips from http://ultimate-equipmentstore.com/black-g10-grips-for101911.html when they were 20$. Grip screws keep walking out so they will get locktited in. See a trend?

I bought it from a gunsmith here by Delta (Ash Mesa Armory) who likes to mess with 1911s. He sold it to me for wholesale to try it out. Whenever I have a problem I take it back to him and he shows me how to fix it. I'm not really hating on the pistol because you cant make them for that price and not have problems. I've also had a RIA 1911 that had little things that needed tweaked on it. What I have problems with is the so called primary 1911s and the problems some of them have. If I have to tinker on them I'd rather pay 300$ instead of 1K+. Some of them sure look nice tho.

I've got 1000 pounds of wheel weights that I plan to cast bullets with and run through this pistol by summer of next year. We'll see how it holds up.

It went pretty well last time out. The magazine that came with the pistol was total garbage and wouldn't even feed a round into the chamber. I borrowed a couple of Chip McCormick mags from a stranger at the range that day and fired about 90 rounds with no problems whatsoever. I went home and promptly corrected the magazine problem and ordered three McCormick mags.

Here's a video from Youtube. This is the same make/model I just bought. Once I got my hands on some quality magazines reliability was 100% for me. Mine also seems to have sights that are very well regulated. The guy in the video keeps complaining about his not shooting to point of aim. I'll try to get a video of me shooting mine when I take it out next time.

My newest purchase. The Ruger SR1911. Once again, purchased with funds that was going towards my now cancelled trip to Normandy, France.

Here are my girls....

1.) SIG Scorpion Carry 1911.
2.) SIG Sauer’s 1911 Traditional Two-Tone Match Elite.
3.) SMITH & WESSON INC Model 1911 - The "Billboards" were the 1st run of the S&W 1911s. Many say these were the best 1911's S&W built due to the Briley match barrels with the rest of the parts supplied by Wilson Combat, Nowlin, McCormick and Texas Armament. When S&W saw what a success they had they turned to in-house production of all parts.

Here's my entry level 1911. Nothing special but shoots great.

That's a good looking 1911. I have always liked the looks of Herrett Black Lacquers on a blued 1911.

Here is my Colt 1991 with the same. Also replaced the plastic trigger and the plastic MSH with an arched MSH W/ a lanyard loop.

Dan Wesson Heritage
SIG Nitron Carry
Taurus Duo Tone 1911
Citadel 1911

Every one of them were outstanding guns! They are in order of price (highest to lowest). The Wesson was the best overall, but the Citadel was a tack driver as well!

My M1911, carried by my grandfather in WW2. It has a scratch on the slide from the slide stop but every time I see this, it makes me smile and reminds me of him.

No 1660XX owned by a friend/neighbor, I'm only doing some research and cleaning and therefore it's temporarily in my possession (a service weapon, passed down from father to son decades ago). Thought some of you may appreciate it, sure is a privilege to "have it in-hand."

Just a heads up.

Anyone thinking about a Wilson, you have plenty of time!

Wilson is reporting a 16-18 month build time as of today. Plenty of time to put your deposit in and save the rest.

Don't ask me how me how I know.

But, Professional Lightweight will be here Aprilish 2014.
