I need to get one soon, pretty tired of paying for firewood.
Would also use it for trips to Home Depot, so at least big enough to haul 4x8 sheets of drywall and plywood.
I was thinking of a 5x10, with a single 3500lb axle. I'll be hauling with my 2010 Xterra.
Saw one today at a trailer store, it was a "landscape trailer", solid sides and all steel decking.
It was made by Silver Fox. It was about 1600 bucks, but could be junk. Can't find any reviews or info online about them.
Since I know nothing about trailers, or what to look for, I would love some input from people in the know.
Obviously sales people are ready to take advantage of my ignorance, so I'm sure whatever I look at at a dealership would be perfect for them to sell me.
My budget is around 1500, and from what I've found, new is less expensive than used.

15 or 16 inch truck/suv type tires, 6 ply preferably. Standard bolt pattern 5 or 6 lug.
single axle would be ok, just make sure it's the weight rating you want.
check the frame and make sure it's built of some solid steel, not stamped or thin wall tube. Plenty of gussets at the corners and mounts so it's strong.
Do you have skills with metal? Welding, cutting? It's not terribly hard to make a good trailer. Parts can be purchased locally, steel, axles, ball mounts.
I believe a member here can possibly make one, we'll see if they respond to this thread.
MtnMan makes two trailers a day before breakfast.

few hundred less.
How much firewood you thinking of hauling? Whats the tow rating of your vehicle ? definitely 5 or 6 bolt wheels. The 5 bolt, 4.5" x 5 lug is more common, spare tires/wheels easier cash wise.
Silver fox is good quality. I had a dual ATV trailer made by them and it was awesome. Wish I had that now instead of my current echo 2 place.
I'd love a trailer like the one Jim posted, as I would also use it to get firewood and go to Home Depot. The problem is that I could not fit it anywhere at my house unless I could turn it on its side and slide it up next to my house.

I've got an Aluma, aluminum utility trailer, the aluminum ones are a bit more up front but are SO MUCH nicer in the long run. I shopped for a long time before I picked mine up and one day someone posted it on craigslist and I snatched it up within minutes for a killer deal.
We make 2 1/2 a day before breakfast now.
Can make you a 3500# axle, acculube hubs, all steel, sides, LED lights, 2" ball coupler, foldaway tongue jack, 15" tires and wheels, wiring is run through conduit, weight about 450
for 1600 easy.
Aluminum would be 2400.00.
Oh yeah a CO title, too.
The state has made it hard for an individual to build a trailer as you now must pay a Bond, get it inspected, etc etc,,, time consuming and a real pita.

There was a member here that had a kick azz military trailer for sale in the non firearms section. You could never overload it with firewood, your truck would give out before that trailer would.

I looked at that one... I don't think my truck would have pulled it empty much less full of firewood.
Now if MTN.MAN can build me one that looks like that one, but in my towing capacity, I will be a happy camper.

Finally got some time and good weather to post a pic.
5x10 trailer with bifold rear gate, spare, metal sides, recessed tie downs in bed, metal deck... All made by Mtn.man.
I think it's great he makes these for free for forum members... Who would have thought.
Looks like you need practice loading. My mom and step-dad will gladly take that load of firewood at their house and you can go up and try it again.
