You may get a visit from the government: http://www.poststar.com/articles/2009/03/20/news/local/14551013.txt

Note this part of the article:

There are also concerns that some larger calibers, or those used by military-type weapons, could be banned, restricted or taxed more heavily.

One northern Warren County resident found out recently the government is paying attention to such ammunition sales.

West said a customer of his recently stocked up on .223-caliber rounds, a caliber often used in assault-style weapons. The customer bought 1,000 rounds a few months ago through a mail order company. Shortly after the purchase, he received a visit from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, whose interest was apparently piqued by a large-scale purchase of that caliber. Not to worry though. I'm sure nobody on this forum would ever make "a large-scale purchase" like 1000 rounds.

The problem must have been that he did not buy enough....

Sounds a little fishy to me. Only a 1000 rounds? there has to be more to the story.

[ROFL1][ROFL1][ROFL1] A friend of mine who's working for ICE which is under DHS was told the same thing when he purchased large amount of ammo.

I guess my having an FFL has buffered me against such inquiries, since I rarely order less than 10k at a time.

I never keep more than a box or two of that kind of stuff. It's just too dangerous. That "assault rifle" ammo can sneak up on you in the middle of night and then you're toast![ROFL2]

And all I thought I had to worry about was the UPS guy complaining about throwing out his back.

Besides those guys in the North Hollywood shoot, whats the average round count?

Most classes are at least 1000 rounds, plus I think that most people think that a 1000 is a huge box, when for .223 or 9mm, it really isn't.

I wonder if it being in New York State had anything to do with it. I wonder if you ordered a lot of paper if DHS would come by and ask you about excercising your 1st Amendment rights, locks for your door for the 3rd Amendment, and your lawyers number for the 5th Amendment.

Since you're a dealer and all, how about selling some of that to us locals?

:)

It's for sale. You won't like the price. No-one likes the price.

But, if you need it, I've got it.

bg's approximately 3,300 rounds loaded in mags at the NH shootout... approximately 650 rounds were fired at two jackasses who had fired about 1,100 rounds themselves.

Funny, when I applied for my FFL, had to send copy to local chief of police. I called him to discuss prior to just giving him a surprise, and his comments were basically, "I don't' mind if you are selling guns, however I'm concerned about people storing un-safe quantities of ammunition and would object if you carry more than 500 rounds". WTF, I probably spit my coffee all over my desk at the time, 500 rounds! Wondered how many rounds they keep on hand at the police department considering it was across the street from my neighborhood. Guess the local LEO's may have empty magazines. [CLICK]
