She's too afraid of an actual recall. This is the best way to keep dems in office. Hopefully the next dem does two things. One, realize they're place is a fragile appointment and can be removed. And two, that we vote them out during the election.
Okay, 3 down... Let's hope her replacement is somewhat better (but not counting on it). So can we go after Nicholson now? I know most of Conifer will jump on that.

it's quite a good play for them--avoids the embarassment of another recall, and they get to appoint another D and keep the balance of power
She's resigning because she knows she will lose a recall vote and this way a Dem can keep her seat and keep the State Senate in their favor.
Well, that's a bummer. I was hoping she would fight it and lose.
We all knew this was coming if we got enough votes. This is still a good day. In their worst case scenario the recall and/or resignation of 3 senators was never in the plans. Colorado has had its own mini-1996 referendum on gun control. They have to know this was a bad idea and we are seeing it with how they are talking now. Don't push it too much though. We are 3 for 3. They are worried about 2014 and let them. If we go for another recall it will have minimal reward against the chance of a large loss for us if the recall failed. Let them stew in their own stupidity, make more mistakes and throw the bums out in the next election. We won more than expected, enjoy it.

She was likely coerced by the party. To risky to proceed with election, and lose balance of power right before midterms. Rumor has it that she made a deal With Moron Carroll about who replaces her on committees she was on, etc.
This is great news! Still wish the fat cow would try to push her luck. Maybe now this stupid fat bitch can get on the Michelle Obama diet. Good god she is fucking ugly.

She isn't resigning, she's lying and the local fishwrap is spreading the lie. This is just another tactic in their arsenal of dirty tricks.
I'll be out there on Saturday encouraging people to sign the petition.

Please stop celebrating...don't underestimate these people. This is a power play, pure and simple.
She waited until the last minute, causing the recall efforts to spend thousands and thousands of dollars for the possibility of nothing, just to vacate her seat to a committee of Dems. This is not victory in the slightest.
There's hope, from others in this thread, that the recall can still be directed at her seat. However, this news will cause problems within the recall effort if more people falsely claim victory. If the recall doesn't have enough signatures by now, it will be extremely difficult to get the remainder. And that's even if they are no longer worthless, which is a possibility and another hurdle.

Thank you Deus.
We haven't won the war, we're winning the battle of hearts and minds though. People are seeing the vast differences between the left and the right, people are becoming disgusted with the tactics of the left.
If you look at the sign carriers from the right we're smiling and happy, the left is frowning and surly. People notice that we're having fun and the leftists are becoming more angry and desparate. The left gives us the finger from their cars, other people in other cars see this and what they really notice is that we don't return a finger, we smile and wave. :)
Keep on truckin'!!, we can win this on the streets and in the polls.

Of course it's good news. Not the best outcome and I agree it's not over but it is good news. Yes, continue the recall sig collection effort and, yes, it would have been better to bring it to a vote. But having Hudak out of the senate is a good thing no matter how you slice it. Remember...there was still a vote to be had and it is possible it may not have been in our favor. Hudak is now out (it appears) and she can't harm the state from her senate position any longer.

Having Hudak replaced by a committee of Democrats is no change at best and bad news at worst. Instead of one elected person there will be several appointed individuals that collectively have one vote, but are just as dangerous as they may be immutable until the next election.

This is the best outcome we could have expected. There is no way the Democrats are going to give up their absolute power in state government until the election in 2014.

The democrats will appoint a single person to replace her. There won't be a "collective committee".
And the money spent recalling her wasn't wasted. She should've been ousted if for no other reason than the awful things she said during the gun bill hearings. Democrats spent money, too, and what do they have to show for it? Another senator basically thrown out against her will.
I see this as a great reward to the people that worked hard and contributed to her forced resignation. It's also good for the state. Again...it isn't the best possible outcome but it certainly isn't the worst, either.
ETA: Besides... Everyone knew her resigning was certain if the signature quota was reached because there was zero chance the dems would risk losing control of the senate. If that's not a victory, but it's a near-certain outcome (for obvious reasons), then why even bother?

Translated into English, since I'm having to guess at what you actually wrote: still a Democrat in that seat who will vote like a Democrat. Just like there would have been anyway. But with the added factor of, most of the bastards won't go near another gun grab, since they know what's waiting for them if they do.
The Democrats are scared. See above comments about how they've acted at the petition sites.
Remember that March Monday at the Capitol? Remember how the Democrats and their witnesses were acting? I do, clearly.
They had the votes. They knew that they had the votes and the results of that day's proceedings were pretty much fore-ordained. But beyond the arogance was pure fear: I had a brief moment with Bad Check Rhonda outside the House Chamber. She saw my RMGO sticker, and looked down and away like my dogs do when I catch them up on the kitchen counter, and then she scurried away like the vile little rat that she is.
Ditto outside the Old Supreme Court chamber where the Senate committee was meeting. The pro-gun crowd was cheerful and jovial, even though most of us knew how the day would end. The green-ribbon-wearing people, OTOH, same fear and submissiveness body language. Mark Kelly punked just like Bad Check Rhonda did. Come on, space cowboy: you're a no-shit astronaut and I'm a middle-aged fat guy. Why are you so afraid of me?
The bastards knew that they would win that day. But they also knew that the war didn't end with Hickenloser's signatures on the bills.
So you can sit and insist that we haven't won anything and that we'll all lose. Enjoy yourself. The three most arrogant of our enemies had their pride and then their falls. And the rest of us need to just keep it going into the Republican caucuses and primaries. It's those caucuses where this will be won or lost.
Our guys punked the hell out of those bastards, and they know it. There ain't a Democrat alive who can spin this as a gun-control victory, and they know it.

No, that is the best possible outcome. It was not a reasonable expectation though. They are not going to give up another chance at amendment 66, an update to Colorado obamacare, whatever else comes up
Edit:
Actually, the best possible outcome we can expect is she resigns then the recall petition counts against whoever they replace her with and they get booted. I do not know the law and rules though, it'll come out over the next little bit if the petition is against the seat or the person.

I don't think we're likely to hear too many democrats utter the words "gun control" in the Colorado legislature before Nov of next year.
I am going to go out on a limb and say that there was some outside money (Bloomberg?) that cut her a nice check to just resign. Sounds like she took the deal and now the dems can pick who they want to fill her seat.
The BIG NEWS though, is that some of you are indicating that the recall can count toward her seat and there can still be an election. If this is true, this is HUGE news. I doubt this though and am thinking it is just wishful thinking. Does anyone have confirmation if this is true or not? Would love to see the senate flip so we can get started next year on repealing all these laws from last year.
This isn't really a victory for gun owners...
How so? They're scared, and they should be- they saw Morse and Giron (Pueblo isn't that right leaning, last time I checked) get ousted, and Hudak did this in lieu of being ousted, so one would think the next in line to fill her slot will see that such is possible and that they better tread softly. Watch, if someone were to bring up ideas of repealing the gun-control legislation that went into effect this year, the dems in the state legislature might think twice. They probably won't vote how we would ideally want, but they may have a moment of pause, and to me, that's a small victory in and of itself.

Its a good day for gun rights in America. Hopefully the lessons of Colorado will put enough fear into the anti gun people so they stop. Time will tell. But before they could fool themselves that 1994 was an anomaly. Well Colorado proved that wrong.

Now is the time to strike while the iron is hot. Have the Republicans introduce several bills to overturn every one of the anti gun bills the DemocRATS passed. Why wait until 2014.
After going 3 and 0, I do not think there is support in the Colorado Congress to block the bills. With 2014 coming up, I do not think the weak DemocRATS would vote again to maintain the anti gun bills. They just do not want to go on record again as anti gun. Except the usual Denver and Boulder Libs. The DemocRATS sole purpose is to keep themselves in power and then do their dirty work when there is no fear of retaliation.
Chickenlooper would sign them because of his running again for Governor and needs popular support from around the state. Under his leadership (or lack there of) the DemocRATS have lost 3 Senators and is looking at another 1995 here in the state in 2014. Plus I think there maybe enough DemocRATS that turn tail to save their own and have the votes to overturn Chickenloopers veto.
Don't sit back and bask in the glory, the goal is to over turn the DemoCRATS anti gun agenda and take back our state. Don't wait for 2014. The DemocRATS are running scared for their jobs, lets use their fear to our advantage.
Thank you for all of your hard work and determination to the Recall Hudak Too group of patriots. Now is the time to strike them when they are down so they don't get back up.
Sheriff Heap of Elbert County released a statement on Facebook:
By Sheriff Heap - The following is the resignation letter from Senator Hudak. I find several significant areas of concern. First of all - in the second paragraph she states that she has "listened closely to the ideas and concerns of my constituents in the past five years". I personally stood with 27 other Sheriffs at the capitol to testify on the gun control measures. At that time Ms. Hudak left the hearing and didn't listen to any of the Sheriff's concerns regarding the bills in question. She then talks about how "most Coloradans feel" about gun control laws. As these bills were not put to WE THE PEOPLE and pushed through by a group of extreme liberal legislators how could we possibly know how Coloradans feel? And last but not least - as stated on FOX 31 News By resigning before the signatures are turned in, she assures that a Democratic vacancy committee will appoint her replacement, keeping the seat — and the senate — in the party’s hands, at least through November, when her successor will be forced to win reelection.

It's not as easy as just "introducing bills". Everything that reaches the floor has to be assigned to a committee by the house/senate leadership. If they don't want it to get to the floor, or even to a committee, it won't.

Which is why any repeal is going nowhere without full R control of the entire state government.
IMHO, attempting repeal at this point hurts our potential to take back the legislature in 2014 and diminishes the momentum. Don't compromise our upper hand by pushing a losing agenda.
People are pissed off at the Dems, let's hope we can keep them that way until it's time to out these liberal bastards.
This is gonna piss off a lot of you, but it's the Libertarian vote that fucked this up for all of us. Without the split, we wouldn't have had Morse or Hudak or any of these anti-gun laws. As bad as the GOP is, we need to focus on taking back the Senate and House.

"Sen. Hudak has shown remarkable courage by choosing to resign. She has refused to let the Washington gun lobby force Coloradans into another costly recall election that would burden CO taxpayers. Instead, she has decided to protect Colorado's strong new public safety laws -- and force the radical minority who oppose common-sense gun laws to go toe-to-toe with candidates on Election Day who will continue the fight to keep our communities safe from gun violence."

This is what these libtards gets it wrong.
It is Colorado citizen who wanted her out, because State Senator doesn't listen to the people she represents.
So, people reach out with donations and recall campaign to get the senator out of the office.

I find it amusing the turn around of nyco around here. I'm glad to see you finally seeing the light. I won't pick on you....for now.

Some of the best spin I have ever seen. I feel like I need a hot bleach shower after reading it.

That's too bad she didn't have the common decency to look her constituents in the eye and instead tucked tail and ran.
......I guess the statistics weren't on her side.

She'll termlimit out and being greedy will run for some other position.
Then we take our pound of flesh. This is Chess, not Checkers.

Agreed, but we need to consider that the other side may be wanting us to think they're playing checkers while they're actually playing chess. We can't allow ourselves to be misled into complacency - while we don't have to make any moves yet, we need to be planning our next several moves (2014 & 2016 elections) as this is exactly what the other side has been doing for the last 20 years.
Keep in mind that a good strategy in chess is to intentionally sacrifice a pawn in order to get the other side to expose themselves to you so they can use a stronger piece to win the game. If we watch for it & plan accordingly we can defeat them. But, we need to stop with our political infighting and get the best players in the game.
The days of mediocre candidates like McCain & Romney as well as our legislative choices need to end or we have no chance at all.
We need to develop short lists of exactly what we want and what we don't want in our candidate choices. If we choose a pro-2A candidate that also supports "immigration reform" (aka amnesty), in the long game we still lose.

It make sense, the liberals are conditioned to think DC has all the rage now, states are nothing, unless you are CA or New Yuck.

Yes.
Can we please chose Eisenhower style conservatives and leave the social issues in the trash? The anti gay agenda is what cost the GOP elections in Co. I am sure many of you don't agree, but that is my wish.
Her outward appearance is probably what's most responsible for her treatment of Amanda Collins during the testimony. You put a pretty girl next to one that's not so, "stunning" , well they turn into real monsters alot of times.

You do have a point. The problem with republicans is they tend to take the "freedom and liberty stance" in most issues except when it comes to who you want to marry and if you want to smoke weed or not.
The democrats tend to represent authoritarian ideas except when it comes to who you want to marry and if you want to smoke weed or not.
My take on it is if your going to stand for freedom then it needs to be across the board. Not just with taxes, mandates, and guns.

Well, it's refreshing to know that WE THE PEOPLE of a small Senate district and grass roots organizers have as much clout as "the Washington Gun Lobby"......
Take a well deserved bow ladies and gents for a job well done!
And yes, the GOP would be wise to stay out of the bedroom, the wallet and the ladies crotches.
I think if they did this they would be surprised at what they could accomplish.

I for one will agree with you. I have said it before that I never understood why this has to be such a big issue.

Some of you seem to forget that traditional American values like marriage and being pro-life are part of being conservative. Those are some of the things that define it.
I don't mind a candidate who says, "I'm for traditional marriage, I'm pro-life and I don't believe in special rights for homosexuals...they should have the same rights as anyone else. Having said that, these are not issues that the gov't, especially the federal gov't, should be worried with."
I also don't recall a whole lot of conservative candidates making a big deal out of these issues. Sure...every once in a while someone will say something stupid but I don't think most conservative candidates build their campaigns around these issues. The liberal media likes to portray all conservatives as anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-same sex marriage when, in fact, that isn't the case at all. And liberals are the worst at being "anti". Liberals like to create false slogans like "pro choice", when in fact that ONLY means pro-abortion. Liberals are "pro-choice" only as long as that choice is abortion.
Too many of you buy into this crap without thinking it through.
Saying homosexuals shouldn't have rights above and beyond what anyone else has does not equate to being anti-gay. But liberals have spun it that way thus they own the bulk of the homosexual voting block by convincing them republicans are anti-gay because they believe in traditional American values like (traditional) marriage.

Another problem is that Liberals simply can not just accept tolerance and understanding. Like Bailey mentions, they have to keep pushing it one step further. I think that is when Conservatives get vocal and it all gets twisted up into..."Your just a gay hater". We don't need to give our kids the idea that being gay is the new, fresh and hip alternative.

How about the government gets out of the business of marriage? Why should those married get special preferences in the law? Quite frankly that is probably the biggest hypocrisy of the gay marriage proponents. They are not arguing for equality under the law, not they are arguing to be added to the special club. Equality? Hardly.
If you want to get married goto a church. Everything else as it relates to marriage is shorthand for contract law. God only knows why you have to buy a worthless piece of paper from the State, let alone why there are preferences in the law once you do.
And its a but funny that you say

But we got DOMA. Where the fed gov't basically said, all those preferences and carve outs in federal law.. well they don't apply. Nope, all those things are only for the special group of married people, which we define as one man and one women, everyone else can STFU - you are not in the club.
People love their preferences in the law, especially when they can get their neighbors to pay for them.
Equality under the law is for idiots! What is great though, are special little clubs, where if you jump through one or more government hoops, you are part of the big happy family where the state showers you with some swag - then you cheer.
Regardless of how the media spins the stance of conservatives and gay marriage, we need the limited government conservatives to say, " I support the freedom to marry whoever you wish"
I'm personally against homosexuality. I think its against nature and a perversion... But my set of morals are no more "holy'er" than a homosexual's. I have no right to tell him what is best for him or anyone else for that matter.
When it comes to morals, its best to default on the side of liberty.

Anti gay and anti abortion are cause Conservatives to lose every state.
I wish this was good news. But after reflection- Hudak was term limited. Now the dems will appoint a replacement that is not. And the recall petition will probably require restarting, as there is a time limit on the petition process. Since the legislature is not in session, the dems may be able to delay the appointment until petitions expire. I guess we need to recall them all....

-doesn't matter, the underlying message remains the same.
The recalls are all well and good-shows that the people still have a voice.
But what irks me is that even with the recalls the laws still stay the same.
The left seems to have sacrificed these clowns to further their agenda, doesn't matter to them that they lost their jobs-they will get shuffled to other positions useful to their cause.
We can't rest we must make our voices heard where it counts the most-at the ballot box.

Read section 3 of this
http://ballotpedia.org/Article_XXI,_Colorado_Constitution
Resignation Filling Vacancy.
If such officer shall offer his resignation, it shall be accepted, and the vacancy caused by such resignation, or from any other cause, shall be filled as provided by law; but the person appointed to fill such vacancy shall hold his office only until the person elected at the recall election shall qualify. If such officer shall not resign within five days after the sufficiency of the recall petition shall have been sustained, the governor shall make or cause to be made publication of notice for the holding of such election, and officers charged by law with duties concerning elections shall make all arrangements for such election, and the same shall be conducted, returned and the result thereof declared in all respects as in the case of general elections.
It is very important they actually complete the petition as these are uncharted waters.
So am I reading it that there is still a recall election even if they resign? The next sentence there says the election only happens if they don't resign within 5 days. Is that a case for if they resign after the election is held?
Marriage is a legal contract. Legal, as in defined by statute. That makes marriage a government institution. Go to a church if that is where you choose to be married, but the license to get married was issued by some local jurisdiction that issues that license based on criteria within the state law. If a marriage is to be dissolved, papers are filed in a government court where a divorce decree is granted.
All of the positives and negatives that go along with marriage are regulated by the state. This has been true for several centuries in western society.
I do not believe that my elected representatives should spend a great deal of time legislating the institution of marriage. I also am not happy with the legal definition of marriage being changed by a few appointed judges. Redefining many traditional institutions in society is what being "progressive" is all about. Control the definition and you control the language. Control the language and you win the debate. When the debate is over the only choices left are violence or submission. To win you must know the rules of the game.
Be safe.
