i am new to the caliber. i see surplus 147 gr and 180 gr. i will be using it in a 20 inch vepr. anyone have any experience with which is likely to be more accurate?

I use 180 in my SVT40 with good groupings. Some say use the lightest you can with a semi action but even when I adjust the gas valve to the lighter ball it still shoots better with the heavy stuff.
I would do some trial and error comparison to see what it likes better.

I've heard the vepr can handle heavy ball. shoot whichever is cheaper imo, but try both.

i agree with you it just kind of sucks that if i want heavy ball i have to buy 880 rounds. i can't find 440.

I'm sure you can find someone here to split a case with you.
