It's high time we had a place to post pics of our favorite .22's. I'll start.

This is my Savage MKII in the original stock. I added a cheekpiece. The scope is a Millet TRS-1 mounted on a DIP 25 moa rail. The camo pattern is my daughter's handprints.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c173/tkulin/CIMG3387.jpg

The crappy plastic stock didn't shoot well, so here it is again, this time in a Boyd's Tacticool. I added the adjustable cheekpiece. I shot it in this stock for years up until just recently.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c173/tkulin/CIMG3654.jpg

I tried a modified Airsoft AICS stock for ten minutes. It was pretty floppy, so I never even shot it.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c173/tkulin/SavageAI3_zps94d25ce4.jpg

Pics of the final configuration coming as soon as I put it back together.

I'm trying to decide on buying a 22 rifle or 308? Both are going to be an expensive build either way. Sweet looking rifle!

A few of my favorite 22s

A Remington 40X w/ Lilja barrel. S&B 12-50 scope. It can put 60 shots in about 3/8 of an inch at 50 meters. Now days it is wearing a Shark Ti 308 can. Very quiet.

I put this together for the little cutie there in the background. It's another Savage MK II. I shortened the length of pull to 9" and Bert threaded the barrel for my TB 30P-1. It's got a Primary Arms T1 clone on it and about ten different colors of paint. Grandma sewed the Hello Kitty suppressor cover.

If I can get her toes pointed out, her form will be pretty good. It has precisely 8 rounds down the barrel.

Remington 40X from 1956, AICS, SWFA Super Sniper 16X scope, 25 MOA two piece bases, and some cheapo rings. Modified stock Remington trigger breaking at 1lb.

I'll be shooting this for the first time as a complete rifle Tuesday night at the OTC.

The holes in the wall are from chrono testing in my shop. I was sure 5 layers of 3/4" particle board would stop a target velocity .22. The stucco on the outside of the house did though...

The first one is my first gun, it was a Christmas present and I was thirteen. I put the scope on it around 1984 and zeroed it at 100 yards, if you miss it is your fault. Took many a ground squirrel and more that a few gophers with it. The second one I inherited when my dad passed and it was the first rifle I ever fired. Dad would only let me load 5 rounds at a time. I hope to be able to pass them both on to any grandchildren that my daughter may give us.

My goal of a 40X trainer that is identical to my .260 is getting closer. All that's left is to scope them the same. I have 2 of the new Steiner 5-25's on pre-order, so I'll hopefully be done in September or October. The 40X just got a new Lilja barrel. I had it cut to 24" instead of the 27" of the .260 to reduce dwell time of the bullet in the barrel but still look and feel similar to the big dog.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c173/tkulin/IMG_0149_zpse66593cd.jpg (http://s27.photobucket.com/user/tkulin/media/IMG_0149_zpse66593cd.jpg.html)

I shot it for the first time this morning in this configuration.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c173/tkulin/IMG_0151_zpsf4035e42.jpg (http://s27.photobucket.com/user/tkulin/media/IMG_0151_zpsf4035e42.jpg.html)

I tried 3 types of Eley ammo. Target, Edge, and Match. There was enough wind to muddy the waters, but I did get almost 2 groups fired during lulls in the wind. The group shot with Edge measures 1/4" (5 shots at 50m). The group with Match measured a little less 3/16" till the last shot when the wind came up just in time to spoil it. I was running the bolt as fast as I could, but just couldn't get all 5 off in time. It even shot inexpensive Target pretty well, laying down a couple of groups of less than 3/8".

I'm pretty darn happy with how it's turning out. My only regret is putting the 40X in an AICS 1.5 instead of another 2.0. It's a huge PITA to clean with that adjustable butt plate.

My Anschutz 2018.

Benchmark 2 groove reverse taper barrel with cone breech, Warner rear sight and RightSight front on BeeSting tuner bloop tube. At the end of the bloop tube is a 22 suppressor just because I like things quiet. Not ISSF legal, but it is removable.

Wicked accurate with both Eley Black and Red. I havent done much lot testing but so far it will clean a 50 meter international target with ease. As soon as I have access to a 100 yard indoor range (2-3 weeks from now) I will begin lot testing at 50 and 100.

I have a thing for .22 trainers that are identical to their centerfire primary brothers.

This is my Nordic .22 upper next to big brother in .223. The lowers are identical. The scopes don't match, but all my AR optics are on QD mounts so they are easy to swap around. The trained eye will be able to tell which is which. Or maybe not. The version on photobucket is pretty low resolution. The .22 is on the bottom.

I shot it tonight for the first time with this barrel (I also have a 7" for use on my SBR lower) down at the OTC. It's harder to shoot than my 40X, but that's what I expected. My score for 60 shots averaged in the nine ring (560). For comparison, the 40x shoots all 10's (personal best of 598, gun is capable of a perfect 600) . I don't think it will ever be as accurate as the 40X, but I'm guessing I can bring that score up 20 points or more with some more time behind it.

This will be my trainer for the carbine side of some bigger matches this year. Starting next week, I'll shoot it off a pack, not a bipod.

So I was trolling this thread when I came across Hosers Anschutz 2018. So how many rounds to a lot and how many lots do you normally test? Is it enough to get you through a season of practice and matches, is that the idea behind it? Man that thing looks awesome!

A "lot" of Eley ammo is many thousands of rounds. Like a pallet of ammo.

For lot testing you buy several 50 round boxes from a few different lots. Some guys look for lots around a certain velocity and others look for ammo that was made on a certain machine. Some guys go nuts and look for both.

Once they find a good lot of ammo they buy a case or five of ammo.

I buy a case or two of ammo that shows promise. And Eley isn't cheap so buying 15-20K isn't something I can sneak past my bride.

I understand the arithmetic of your statement, and I must say that your wife is a trooper, and a true find. Well done.

Before 22lr became a "rare commodity", I don't think many outside the competition/precision community had any idea you could spend that much on rimfire ammunition.

New Anschutz 1727. 22 LR.

GRS Stock, S&B 5-20 Ultra Short, H2CMR reticle, Seekins rings, integral Gemtech Mist can. I had a choice on the stock, traditional German style made from black Walnut or something I can use at the range instead of plinking at critters.

I am very happy with it so far. At 200 yards I was holding about a 2 inch group in light and switchy winds.

The Fortner/straight-pull/Biathlon action is really fast. Open with your trigger finger, close by pushing the back of the bolt closed with your thumb.

With my lovely bride working on Christmas, I decided to take my 40X Rimfire family to the range for Christmas.

All 4 suppressed, no plugs needed. TBAC Take-Down, Jet Integral, TBAC 6.5 Ultra 7, Shark 308.

Shot 2-3 MOA sized steel out to 220 yards and testing out some new close range (50 yards) targets to be 100% sure my welds were solid before Saturdays Prone and PRS matches.

Still not sure if the Manners stock will stay. Might end up with another AI chassis or maybe a MPA.

Took the Vudoo up to the 600 yard range after yesterdays IPSC match. After 6 stages of revo, my hands and brain were tired.

At 405 yards (20.2 mil elevation, 2.7 wind) it shot about a 3-3.5 inch group. Nice and round. Held a touch too much wind and I needed a few clicks more for elevation.

At 615 yards (37.4 elevation, 4.0 wind) I managed about a 10-12 inch group. At least with the 4 that connected. Absolutely no clue where one of the shots went nor do I know which shot out of 5 missed. Even with Charlene spotting, hits on steel and misses in the dirt were impossible to see with the mirage. I hoped painting the targets white would help, but it wasn't enough.

The magnetospeed T-100 strobe didn't work too well with the angled/hinged target and only lit off a few times. No biggie. Next time I will use a 12 inch diamond target on conveyer belt. This "ABC" target is about 12 wide and 18 tall.

We've had ours out to 520. Vudoo was at 4.5" group, 3 shots, 2 off target trying to deal with the erratic wind.

Here's two that we haven't shot yet-

Isn't that kinda like telling a falcon it's a fantastic flyer or a salmon it's a splendid swimmer? Ha!

I put my new Hawkins scope mount on my Vudoo a while back. Hawkins already makes some of the best rings and bottom metal out there. Now he has kicked it up a notch. The top rail is great to hold on to when resting your rifle on barricades or it gives you a place to mount stuff on. The bubble level is in a perfect place and doesn't get in the way.

I recently spent a bit of time researching mounts/rings when I was futzing with my little setup and looking forward to what I want for the next. Went down a more than just a few Google holes in the process & Yep, I'm a fan of that right there.

My Vudoo V22 is being built, can't wait for it to get here. I'll have to look for that mount, or at least the Hawkins rings with the top rail.

Wow, amazing rifle.

1727 is straight pull action.

Hoser
08-15-2019, 19:33
Is that a straight pull?

Yup. Basically an 1827 Biathlon Fortner action that has been made with mounting a scope in mind. Mounting a scope on my 1827 was a huge pain in the ass.

The barrel itself is about 8.5 inches long. The rest is suppressor. You can just barely see the seam under the bell of the scope.

I'm interested to see how my Bowers Bitty sounds on my 10/22, but I've got the unique advantage of never having owned a suppressor before, so I almost can't be disappointed.

At this years SHOT Show I ordered a Geissele Mk18 rail. I had it coated Magpul FDE and then stuffed in my Compass Lake Engineering rimfire guts. The barrel is a Douglass or a Lilja with an old JET titanium integral suppressor. I have mainly been shooting my Vudoos lately, but sometimes a semi-auto is so much fun. And being able to toss it on my tri-pod anywhere is pretty cool as well.

S&B 3-20x50 in a Spuhr mount on top.

I also had the barrel modified to a "cone" breech face to give more room for gunk to go when shooting suppressed.

Those little micro cans are cool.

How quiet is it on your MkIV?

Irving
03-19-2020, 20:02
I haven't done a side by side with and without can. Only with can in my garage, which didn't seem that quiet. Maybe nail gun level with CCI quiets. The Aguilla primer only rounds are very quiet, but they are so low powered that I haven't bothered to sight them in and am not sure I'd trust them to dispatch an animal reliably unless I was holding it down with my foot. So for now those are just fun rounds. Neither CCI quiet nor the Aquilla will cycle the pistol though. I need to try the CCI quiet for semi-auto and see how those do. I haven't gotten to test any of my cans at a range yet.

Ouch that hurts. Replacing anschutz stocks is an exercise in futility and overly expensive. Can it be repaired? Unfortunately annie stocks breaking in the wrist area like that is a known issue. Boyds has 64 action inlets and europtic had a pretty good sale on mdt 64 action chassis a couple months ago.

Did you ship it with the action installed in the stock? ANA north america shipped my 1712 with the action removed as they state they got tired of shipping claims with broken stocks.

I sold it and bought a Vudoo.

I knew you would come around. They always do.

There's something to be said for the personal touch.

Don't give UPS your gun and/or personal possession.

They will break it.

Delfuego....what did UPS say when you confronted them about the damage?

Also, since this is a rimfire thread, I thought I would post my Coronavirus AR22 pistol build.....

PSA MAGA lower and upper with a Dobbs Defense Evercore can (FA rated and also handles 5.7 nicely) and a Fostech Echo II Binary Trigger (that's next to go in)

After shooting my 223 Ackley bolt gun at our monthly PRS match, I decided to relax and spend some time with my Vudoo single shot on the 200 meter range.

I put a new Rodzilla top on my SEB NEO rest and wanted to just get some rounds across it to see how I am going to like it.

It tracks absolutely incredible. Vey happy with it so far. Hitting coffee can sized targets at 220 yards was pretty easy.

Vudoo SS, right bolt, left port. Shilen Ratchet, 16 twist, MTU contour. Bix and Andy 2 ounce trigger, McM stock, S&B 5-25 scope.

I have another stock for it, a Cerrus F-Class wood stock with CF stringers. But it will be a while before the stock doc is done with it. Time will tell which stock I will prefer more.

The only other change will be 7/8-24 muzzle threading for a Thunderbeast Ultra 5 suppressor and an ATS tuner. Maybe a Flavio trigger.

And, it’s Dillon blue!

That was exactly my first thought when Jill at Vudoo told me what colors they had in stock.

Who did the barrel?

Vudoo. I had a spare Shilen on the shelf and I sent it down.

When the Vudoos first came out and I saw Hoser and TimK shooting them I thought they were insane for paying that kind of money for them. I just bought my own, draw your own conclusions.

It shoots pretty good with SK red at 50 yards (circled red shots are from sighting in).
