Anyone else playing BF4 on a PS4? We got lucky with a pre-order and I took this week off so I've wasted more time than normal. If so send me an invite - th3w01f-69. Not being cute with the name it's the year I was born. :) Kat reminded me that my abbreviations only mean something to me. Adding words for search. (Battlefield 4, PlayStation 4)

It was cool for the first week, now I get spawn killed about 50% of the time and it is turning into run and gun. We just need to start our own server. I am not even playing this weekend even though it is double XP.

I had a chance to play it on PS4 at a friend's house. It was pretty damn sweet. The game that really set the bar was Killzone. That made me want to get a PS4 just for that.

Got it on Xbox one. Having a great time. At first I was getting spanked. Now that I have rank and some good weapons I am kicking butt. On PS4 I am playing Call of Duty which came in that bundle. So far no hardware issues with either system but have had several network issues with both. Also dont think graphics wise this generation blows out the last one. I am sure things will get better but the 360 and ps3 should not be tossed yet.

I haven't seen much spawn killing at all and I'm not very good. :) The double XP is great this weekend for getting better weapons. The recent patch made things better as far as crashes and the 64 person maps are working most of the time. So far it seem pretty balanced as far as weapons go; haven't seen any helicopters or jets completely owning a map yet and I've probably played 50+ rounds.

Also, if you like Slim Jim's keep an eye out for the BF4 ones, there is a special promo to give you double XP and a Bronze, Silver and Gold battle pack. Takes 8 slim jims to get everything for one platform. The King Soopers by me had them on sale for .60 each and I like them anyway.

I'm surprised how few console players there are. I always played on a PC up through BF2142 but everyone I knew switched to consoles. I guess it may be time to switch back. :) I really suck with a controller anyway; probably how I would shoot a real weapon after about a 750 of whisky. Nothing like a mag dump at 5 yards only to see they're still at 100 health and I'm dead.

The ONLY way I would play BF3 or BF4 is on a PC equipped to handle it. I think that the CoD series is the best experience on consoles and BF is the best experience on PCs overall.

Never played COD but BF provides benefits for playing as a team. If you can get a 5 man squad to work together on the 64 player maps you'll typically crush the other team (I'm usually on the receiving end). There are also several game types so you can change it up depending on what you're in the mood for. So far it seems pretty balanced across the classes and weapons/vehicles.

There is also commander mode where you help direct your team (spotting, launching drones and cruise missiles, giving squads orders, etc and not actually in the fight). There's an ipad app for it which I haven't tried out but seems like the way to go. I'm going to give it a try in San Francisco this week.

Haven't played Ghosts much but I'm not gonna lie, even being a huge BF supporter, BF4 single player has been pretty bad so far. Granted I'm barely into it... The beginning was good but the second "act" was pretty lame if you ask me. Enough to make me not play it anymore (I will play through it at some point though). However I do play BF for the multiplayer.

Go MP... the learning curve at first (if you're not familiar with previous BF games' MP) is rough, but stick it out, you get into it and it's more addictive than any other game. I started with the first Frostbite Engine MP for 360 (I think?) on MOH (the newer one), then played Bad Company 2 and BF3... In my opinion I think BF is superior to COD- more tactical.

Have you checked out the smartphone app "BF4 Stats"? I have my phone next to me while playing and between games (after the save icon goes away during load) I can check my progress with weapons, battlepacks, and other stuff that directly connects through BattleLog... It's pretty sweet and helps me to plan my games (I usually go between Assault and Sniper classes depending on the level) and progress before switching to the next weapon in the list.

We'll agree to disagree. [Flower]

For the record, my clan and I recently went back and played ALL CoD titles going back to CoD4 and I was amazed by how b0rk those versions were. I often hear 'version XYZ' was the best of that series and it's generally from those who haven't played the game at length for a few years. Time has a way of smoothing over all the bumps and the good times tend to shine through. Go back and play them and I doubt you will say that the MW2 MP was the best. Like it or not each subsequent version of CoD (and Halo & BF for that matter) fixed small issues with the game (not the bugs either) and played better moving forward. Even the new CoD: Ghosts which is getting negative reviews at a higher rate has fixed LOTs of issues that Blops2 had but you don't see those reviewing it mentioning that. Let's face it, you don't make name for yourself by agreeing with the masses that something is good. You make a name for yourself by being critical where being critical doesn't need to be. IMO this latest version of Ghosts fixes a LOT of the issues that Blops2 had which fixed issues that MW3 had and so on going back all the way to the beginning. I was shocked by how rough those games were in comparison when we went back over the last few months to play each version's MP at length.

As far as single players go.... Death From Above may be one of the greatest levels of any video game ever and it's completely in black and white. lol

Ridge

Neither Blops game was that good, IMO. The stories were weak, the guns sounded and felt wrong.

The Treyarch versions of the game haven't been very good IMO for various reasons. One basic reason you touched on... the audio. For some reason Treyarch HATES 'sound whores' and makes it a point to remove sound ques from the game that could possibly give someone with a headset or a nice surround sound system an advantage. To me that so just SO backwards thinking and removes a HUGE aspect of a video game. I mean, what's next, are they going to make the game in 480p & 30fps so that those with better displays don't get an advantage over those who don't? It's just idiotic. It's kind of like the way that overly aggressive netcode (read: lag compensation) punishes those with good internet connections. This is an entirely separate topic so I won't get into that right now but Infinity Ward embraces audio and has done some VERY innovative things with audio and the BF series is the same way in this aspect. It makes the game immersive and Treyarch is really missing the bus on this aspect of gaming as well as a few others. I disklike Treyarch because they seem to hate gamers. lol

But this is a discussion about BF so I should just keep my CoD opinions to myself. lulz

I play on PC as well. Maybe we just need to get a good squad together on here. I play with my brother sometimes but he is stationed in Germany and it is hard to get time to play. It is friggin frustrating to play solo on any of the maps. I saw some questions about the single player. I beat the entire campaign for BF4 on hard in about 3 hours. Not that much to it and honestly the story sucked. Bad. I make it a point to play the campaign because it used to mean something and had a cool story, but BF4 is completely MP centered. This is the way that it should be though because that is why everyone buys the game.

If you guys want to start a squad sometime I would be in. I have everything unlocked for engineer, but have not done much with any of the other classes. I just hate getting killed by helicopters so unlocking all the launchers has been my focus. I can not fly anything to save my life.

Same with CoD: Ghosts. The campaign took me less then 6hrs this time and they always take 3-4x that amount. It was an alright story but I couldn't believe when it was over. I kept waiting for more to happen because 1) it was so short and 2) the story ended so abruptly and w/o resolve. I was very disappointed in a campaign for the first time in CoD history. Just felt like they threw it together real quick because they had to. The other games you can tell they took their time to tell a story that mattered to them. On one hand I was happy because I could devote more time to the MP but I felt cheated on the single player.

Question on this, as it hit even harder last night... With the release of China Rising, is anyone else having even more crash issues? My brother and I were playing for maybe 30min last night and I had my game (on 360) freeze several times. It used to be maybe one or two freezes per few hour game session, but last night it seemed I couldn't make it through 3 games without it freezing. If anyone else is having issues with freezes, what system and how prevalent? I'm kinda pissed at DICE right now for the blatant lack of QC when they released the game- and they're reporting a lot of issues with CR not loading the servers when you join.

I'll check it out today and see how it goes. I've been having constant crash problem but only with the large conquest maps. The other funny part is that it only seems to crash when I'm doing well. If we're getting crushed and my K/D is .5 there are no problem, if my KD gets anywhere about 2 or 3 I usually end up with a crash. I'm wondering if it may have something to do with in round awards.

I'm waiting on both the PS4 and Xbox One until about June of next year. That should give them enough time to fix the initial bugs. Our current Xbox 360 and PS3 do quite well.

I would get BF4 for the PC but my PC (Dell Precision 690 workstation) is configured as a CAD/CAM station with a Quadro FX 4600 (will be going dual before long), which is not good for gaming.

Playing on Xbox One last night I was unable to play 2 consecutive games. I would join and play the portion of a game I loaded into, then it always crashed loading into the second map. It was unusually consistent.

I am about to get into gaming fairly soon. I just need to bite once and get a console or good graphic card for PC to do so. My last console was a PS1 around 1996-1997.
I did some of HW on APU, GPU and other processing unit that goes into the console and pc. I think Take Two selling $1bil worth of GTA5 in 1day was an one of the factor, and AMD's APU getting into PS4 and XBOX1 was another driving factor.

We need a dedicated Video/Computer Game Thread.

Last night I just saw a new title coming out next month (yes I have been living under a rock) called Titanfall. Looks like it's for PC and XboxOne (no PS4). I can tell it's going to take one hell of a PC rig to run pretty. As for the gameplay, holy crap it looks insane. It's a first person shooter, with infantry having what look like mild jetpacks but there are also MECHS that are both crewed and autonomous, and you can apparently hijack and sabotage other mechs. Here's a cool gameplay video:
