My 17 year old daughter just bought her first car a few weeks ago and is still learning to drive. I don't think I have been this worried for her in a long time. I know what time she get's off work tonight and I told her to call when she leaves work. On a good day it's only 15 minutes away so I will be up a little late tonight making sure she arrives home safe.

Messed it up? How do you figure? I heard up to 16 inches yesterday. Now saying 2-4. Nailed it.
Less in the Denver metro area for us.
I guess I should just say it... California/Texas and whoever hasn't been in Colorado for there first snow storm, so down, give some space and leave early from work if you to. No, your expensive 4x4 is not that great and you will still cause an accident, or piss off a lot of the native Coloradans who can actually drive in this area.

My x5 is a beast in the snow with summer tires. I can drive like I normally do and have no issues.
At least that is what the guy at the dealer told me.

This was me last year, but my 10+ guns and (R) voting record got me through it safe and sound :D
This storm WITH snow, won't be nearly as bad as the last one we had with hardly any snow. I already went out and shoveled, and could have done it with an air compressor. This snow has no moisture in it. I don't anticipate much ice at all tomorrow.

We got an inch or so up here and it's about 10 degrees. Please..... The Weather Channel app predicted "up to 25 inches". Easiest job in the world, being a weather guy.
If a little rain brings traffic to a crawl these days this is going to be worse like it has been getting worse every year. People are going to start acting like idiots; stay aware and stay safe everyone.

Drive it like you stole it or someone else is paying for it! Good news is I get to drive a 2 wheel drive van 20 miles on narrow county roads to work, it was slick last night on my way home already because of the wind blowing.

Just fine. 20 mph under speed limit on average.
SUVs drive fast in the snow? I failed to see that this morning. Went from over by Evergreen High to I-70; 1/2 the way I was stuck behind some lady in her Suburban that couldn't move faster than 15MPH. Then I-70 was a total shitshow. I have a bone to pick with Jeffco Road and Bridge- for the first time I can remember my road wasn't even touched. They never skip my road, even when it's a 3' blizzard. I'm guessing someone called in sick or something.
For God's sakes everyone, drive safe- the idiots are all en mass out there.

I was stuck behind some lady in her Suburban that couldn't move faster than 15MPH. Non stop all morning. All three lanes held up with three, shoulder to shoulder, 15mph rollers with traffic lined up for miles. Hello? If you aren't comfortable above a crawl because your car sucks or your skills suck, keep it in the right lane! I invested in a 4x4 outfitted for the snow and have spent a lifetime practicing driving in the snow. I will not be driving the speed limit, but I can do better than a turtle. AND... if traffic is backed up behind me, I MOVE OVER!!
I blame it all on the guy who invented the Internet.

Its all about skill when driving in snow. And most people who live in Colorado have none. I can be in my truck in two wheel drive and see people clearly in four wheel drive spinning out and all over the road. I hardly use four wheel drive.
And there is such a thing as going too slow. If people go too slow they piss others off then those people try and pass them and go to fast and then mess up. People need to know what the appropriate speed is, not to fast and not to slow. I think this causes more accidents than people realize, going to slow and making others mad.

Snowing pretty hard here in Littleton... Not sure.. 3-4 maybe? I have a 4 wheel drive truck but being from Michigan I also know my limits... And the people that cause the most accidents are the slow drivers and the ones that panic and hit their brakes! You don't slam on your breaks with snow... Morons I tell ya... Saw zero accidents from i25 and arapahoe to 470 and Kipling where the last snow I saw 2.... So there was an improvement this morning

Yep, that happened this morning on I-70 EB from Evergreen to Lakewood. Only one well plowed lane (left) and then people traveling using up both the slow lanes, so really only two usable lanes. But the problem with the Suburban lady this morning was on SH-73 and 74 where it's only one lane each direction... She couldn't figure out that there was a line of at least 20 cars behind her that were forced to do her absolutely insane slow speed. There's a difference between going a safe speed, and being chickenshit.

I hate when people don't know how to drive in the snow. both the people who think they can go 90 mph, but also the guys who drive like they have all day to go a mile and a half. It's snow! It's not like all friction has left the world and going over 3 mph will result in your death!

Saw a sweet single car accident on 225 heading south past 6th. I was in the middle lane doing about 45 and cars were whipping past me on the left and right. One car was probably doing 55+ hit the brakes and went right into the concrete barrier. There was visible ice and very slick. Dumbass. Have a nice day.

3 degrees right now in Evergreen, but it was -24 this morning when I got up around 0530. Luckily we didn't have the power go out at our house... 7500 customers reported power outages last night/this morning between Evergreen and Bailey. That must have sucked.
Been plowing,
Pulled Sanata out of the ditch in his suburban.
Had a guy doing 45 in a 25 bald tires barely miss me then pulled him out of the ditch he went in for $50.00
Pulled an Audi out of about 8" of snow,,, LMAO the chick said that she was told they can't get stuck. $25.00 and Audis, don't have any where to hool em.
-14 whne I got up we lost power for around 4 hours, put the ice hut heater under the house to keep pipes warm brought the big hunting heater inside just in case. Power back at about 5:40. prepped we was. 22 at this time down right Hot out there.

Oh, you mean the people who actually prepared for winter in Colorado by buying quality winter tires & knowing how to drive safely in snow? Pro tip: doing 25mph in a 55mph zone in dry pavement because you see some snow on the side of the road is NOT safe driving.
What are you talking about, I can totally DRIVE 60mph, but I can't always stop from that speed. [LOL]
Right there with you!

Bingo. This is why I finally felt compelled to post to this thread. I just drive in 4 lanes all around Fort Collins & Loveland at 25mph on DRY pavement because terrified people driving RWD w/bald tires couldn't take their fears to the right hand lane w/their terrified counterparts. I'm fine with the fact that you can't drive in the snow, even when there isn't any on the ground speak of, but don't make it my problem too.
Right there with you!
Stopping in cold weather can be an art firm but a quick touch of the brakes at low speed regularly will give you a good idea of traction & how it affects stopping distance. Dial back some for added safety & drive on. It's not rocket surgery.

Audi should have a small plastic cover plate on the front and rear bumper. Pop that out and in the trunk area there is a hook that will screw in. "Hool" it from there.
It's not really an art form, just applied physics. I used to teach a performance winter driving course and did ice racing and other crazy things. If the idiots going up hills in FWD at 5mph were not on the roads, 60 mph would be rather pedestrian in all reality.

a. 0F on ice

All I know is that the elevated portion of I-70 WB was slicker 'n greased whale snot this morning. I was running about 40 in the right lane after traffic started to open up, tried to accelerate to about 45, and felt the truck starting to go sideways. This reminds me of a snow storm in Boulder back in 2006. I was near Walnut and Broadway and watched a car turn left onto Broadway from (not Walnut because thats a one way there), anyways, about 6" of snow on the ground and she was turning left while talking on the cell phone. Her back end broke out and she couldn't turn, was headed straight for the stop light and also didn't see the need to panic or drop her cell phone as she slammed into the light pole. After she stopped, she kept yakking away. [Shake]

hmmmmm, your t-case is a $3500 option for a reason, had you been in 4wd, it would not have felt "unsettling" just sayin
Was idling past a wreck in my Tahoe on I-80 a few years ago in 4-wheel drive and started to lose it. It was icy as hell and yet another tractor trailer rig had jackknifed, burst the saddle-bag tank on one side, left the highway and rolled. My Tahoe started to rotate all on its own, without any steering or throttle changes. That was quite the unusual feeling. If you think ice is slick, try covering it in diesel fuel. Was able to steering correct out of it, but it was still "unsettling". Shhhtuff happens.
