We all know companies must be truthful when advertising their products or they face fines or other punishments.

Why don't we have the same thing for politicians? After all they advertise their particular product and lie about it. Shouldn't they be held accountable when they break their promises? I mean at a time other than election time, when they are allowed to cover their previous lies with new ones.

Just sayin'

I think most politicians have a background in law, that explains quite a bit.

i see truth. if they are a politician they dont know what truth is. they are evil pieces of shiite. ALL OF THEM. make no mistake, D,R, L Green, whatever, they are no friend of "US NON POLITICIANS" they are only in it to make money and build their personal legacy. and will do it at any cost. there now you know the truth about ALL politicians. now you dont have to worry.

That's how it ends up. A true believer starts on the bottom with blind ambition for the masses, down trodden, neglected by .gov. As their ascension starts alliances are made, once their hooks are in, you can never shake them off. That saying, It's who you know. Well the power brokers Know each other and the game is controlled from the booth, not the field.

Well, you know advertisers are allowed puffery and...don't remember the term, but to the effect of "things that no reasonable person would believe are true" (like images of a truck driving up a wall). Since we know politicians lie, shouldn't every promise of theirs fall into the latter category? :P

The problem with demanding "truth in advertising" from politicians by law is that every politician will be in court constantly defending themselves for their opinions.

Keep in mind that simply making an opinion statement like "I believe that gun control laws actually increase gun violence" would end up in court. Yes, in a common sense world they'd win in court, but it would cost them money and involve even more lawyers with even more legalistic parsing of every little word and "free and open discourse" would abruptly come to an end.

Lawyers have too much power in our system as it is.

The only solution to political corruption is to limit the amount of time they can be politicians in the first place. Term Limits; a bad idea who's time has come.

Isn't that a liberal website?

Not blatantly at least. This took about 30 seconds to find as a non-liberal example.
