View Full Version : Polished barrels?
Anyone ever polish their barrels before? (that sounded naughty) I mean your weapons barrel? If so what did you use? I have heard to let the Glock barrels sit in vinegar for a couple hours than use mothers mag wax? I hate the smell of vinegar lol! Any other ideas or things you guys have done to do this?
P.S. Its cold outside
I've never polished the entire barrel on any of my handguns before...but I do polish the feed ramps. I use either Flitz, Metal Glo, or Mother's polish. I was never really one for having my gun "bling", but if it potentially helps increase the functionality of it, then I say go for it.

Thanks for the input, ill have to find that mothers, do you use a dremel? Thanks man!
You can over do it real fast with a dremel. Get it close with power tools then finish it slow.
Ill have to pick up a Dremel, let a friend borrow it, yeah.....he moved lol! Can you use anything else?

Vinegar + iron/steel = rust......... At a very accelorated rate...... Just sayin......
This method of adding iron and vinegar is an old way to make leather dye.

So THATS how you maintain that George Hamilton tan.........
Let me ask this:
Why? Aside from aesthetics it serves no purpose really and in many cases now if you polish it to bare metal you are reversing what the manufactures have spent millions on.
Remove a factory coating such as Melonite , hard chrome or nitride and you now have a softer unprotected barrel.
Not to mention the only way polished metal looks good is if it is kept polished, now you have more work to do.
Am I missing another Polish joke here????[Dunno]
But seriously...
I do the Mothers trick with a buff wheel on a dremell or drill.
Get a clean towel and rub it out by hand..... [Coffee]

Or you could just do what most of us here do and call Argonstrom - https://www.ar-15.co/threads/26790-Barrel-Slide-Etc-Polishing
My CZ barrel came out nice https://www.ar-15.co/threads/26790-Barrel-Slide-Etc-Polishing?p=301317&viewfull=1#post301317
Yeah, I second the dremel with a polishing wheel. If you don't have a dremel, you could use a cotton ball and elbow grease.

Thank you. :)
The method I use removes no metal.
Dremels are the devil.

Derp, I totally forgot about Argonstrom.
I would go his route before pulling out the dremel.
