I am looking to upgrade my Remington 700 trigger to a Timney, specifically the flat or straight version (517). Does anyone have advice or experience with these? I am not opposed to the standard curved (510) but I think i would like the straight. Timney also offer Nickle-Plated triggers, do these have benefit more than just rust protection?

This is going on a R700 AICS 260 match rifle.

Straight trigger is an acquired taste.
Personally I would not drop the coin unless you have taken a few shots with one and like it.

I have a flat Timney on my Badger 2013 .260 in an AX chassis. And a flat trigger in my Infinity pistol, a flat trigger in my CZ steel gun, and a flat Giessele in my .243 AR. I like the flat way better in the precision rifle and the pistols, AR's no real opinion yet. I have a 40x trigger on my 700 .300wm in a Cadex chassis and I can't get comfortable with it now. What stock/chassis are you putting it in?

I picked up the flat nickel on the Rem 700. With the low round count on the trigger I installed after Bert set the gun up... I like it.

What stock/chassis are you putting it in?It's for my AICS 260 Match rifle. It has pistol grip skins and the trigger now doesn't feel real comfortable to me. I use it at p-dog matches and want to do some "tactical" matches in the future.

I could be over-thinking it, but I feel like I could have better control with the straight trigger without a curved shoe. I wish I could try it (before I buy it). I have not been shooting that long so I haven't developed a lot of habits either good or bad and am always trying to improve. That being said I know that more gear is no replacement for practice.

I like flat triggers. None of my centerfire rifles have them though. Just my Anschutz 22s.

Which R700 trigger do you have now?

It going to increase the reach of your trigger finger. That may or may not be a good thing for your trigger break. I'd figure out how to prototype it with a little hunk of wood and some tape or something to see how it might feel.

I like flat triggers in my ARs along with larger grips. That system was designed with small hands in mind, and increasing the distance between the web between thumb and index finger and the trigger feels like a good thing.

I like the curved trigger on my AICS, but I run the thumb hole skins.

Which R700 trigger do you have now?I have an X-Mark now, it has been worked over and is actually crisp and consistent. My dislikes of it are the weight and the trigger shoe mostly.

Update: I ended up with the Timney 517. I really like it and will always use a flat trigger if possible! I have used it in 4-5 matches so far and have no issues, no complaints. Only hiccup was needing to inlet the AICS for the new trigger.
