My FORTIS REV (http://fortismfg.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=59&product_id=63) is my current favorite free flow hand guard/rail at this time, because of its quality of build, lightweight, ease of install, style/ design, and function. (I totally believe you can have FORM and FUNCTION at the same time.)

So when FORTIS announced they would have new vertical grips, aka known as the "SHIFT" grips, both standard vertical and Short Angled Grip I was very curious to see them.

The SHIFT grips just released this last week and I decided to try the short angled grip per my style. (I am not a big fan of full sized vertical grips)

These run $60 for the short and $65 for the full vertical grip as of a sale from RAINIER ARMS.

Little back-story to set this mini review up; I have been a MAGPUL AFG user for a few years now. I prefer this over a basic hand-stop or vertical grip. I always put my thumb over the bore and with the angle of the AFG it just feels comfortable to me. The only complaint I have had with AFGs is they are bulky in width and length. Also dont always match perfectly to a rail/handguard.

Simple review.

Pros;
Lightweight
Narrow, a few hairs wider than the rail itself
Short length, doesn't take up much rail space at all, half that of an AFG
Smooth rounded edges, no sharp finger grabbers
Solid mount
Transitions/matches the look of the REV rail
Ergonomic (feels so "natural" to my hand and easy to provided that solid support to push stock to shoulder)

CONS:
Friggin $60!
No other color than black at this time
Exo skeleton look, not for everyone

This is why I really like it and the $60 doesn't hurt too bad, FEELS very natural and comfortable;

I've got dibs when Skully sells it!!!!! Just kidding.

Great looking rifle! It looks very comfortable, I could never get used to my AFG. I went to hands-stops and have never looked back.

[handbags] .................well actually I should never say never. :)

Thanks! It is just right, not too cold, not too hot, and just the right size.

I could never get used to my AFG. I went to hands-stops and have never looked back.

Comparing the SHIFT directly to an AFG is not fair to the SHIFT. It is more apples to oranges, it is still a fruit but not the same taste.

While it shares the same principle of the AFG it had a lot of thought put into it. The formed shape where you would place your pinky finger is definitely a huge part of it, along with its just perfect sized.

I hope they release a keymod version

Maybe?

Seen no announcements, Keymod stuff is slowly working its way out to the consumer, kind of frustrating.

UPDATE:

I added a new Knights Armament 12 O'clock Thumb rest in combination with my SHIFT grip.

Super comfy with the combo!
