A few months ago a friend out in rural Douglas county asked me to help him control his rabbit population. Since I was shooting near a house I opted to use the 22 revolver with a 4 inch barrel.

Now I'm trying to go out every weekend! Hunting rabbits with a pistol is crazy fun! I've hunted them with rifles and shotguns, but this is a whole new challenge. Now if I could just find someone with prairie dogs.

Yea! Sounds fun. I know guys in Utah who do it with clubs and headlights. I'd rather do it your way.

But, he said,

A few months ago a friend out in rural Douglas county asked me to help him control his rabbit population....

A few months ago they were in season

We have bunny rules where we hunt.
22lr pistols only... head shots only... no hollow points (too messy)

We use Ruger Mark II and Browning Buckmarks

It's a kick with pistols, and you don't have to tote around a heavy rifle... more ammo instead.

It's legal year round on private property where the animal is causing damage. That said I don't hunt them in the warmer months since I like to make stew or sausage out of them and the cold weather helps kill off the sick ones.

Also, I have an 11 day old son at home so hunting may be limited in the fall.

Yep, first kid. He's. Great. I'm tired now but I can't wait to teach him fishing, biking, hunting, and camping.

Congratulations on the birth of your son. Only 12 years until he can go hunting with you (of course, he can "go with you" earlier, but to hunt too...).
