I have what appears to be 1998 Colt Delta 10mm.

Serial numbers show DE34698 if anyone could help with identification?
Also a V is marked into the trigger guard if that means something?

It came with beautiful wood grips (with the Delta emblem) that wrap under the handle for easy no look magazine loading like the competitor style but wood.

The grips cover the entire handle as opposed to the standard rectangle style.

I have since removed these grips as my wife likes to shoot this one and I have been told by some gunsmiths these grips are very rare????

This shoots great! Both my wife and I put this one at the top of our list for shooters.

I am not real pleased that the "cheap" American Eagle and Remington ammo is up to $25 for 50rds. I used to pay under $15!!!!!

The V is a Colt proof mark one usually sees, so no particular meaning.

It's because of the lack of available 10mm ammo that got me into reloading in 1996. I haven't looked back since. I have a great mid range load for 155grain Ranier bullets too.

My first was a G20, which I modified with ghost ring night sights, a 3.5 lb connector, decal grips, and have a 6" Storm Lake hunting barrel and a Mako scope mount as well. I originally got it for hog hunting, hence all the mods. It does quite well for that, I might add...
My second was a Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup Stainless, complete with original box(s).
One of these days, I hope to connect with a 1006 at the same time that I happen to have some $$.

I recently added a S&W 1006. It was a demo gun from S&W w/250 rounds through it. I even got the box, manual, 5 mags, and a holster. Shoots like a dream, since I have doubled the amount of rounds shot through it.

I have a Wyo Arms Parker in 10mm that made a trip back to the factory in it's youth for a trigger and accuracy job, it is a 7" bbl longslide, and shoots incredibly well, wish it were a bit shorter, currently looking for a more compact 10, not incredibly brand conscious, as for ammo I have considered setting up one of my lathes lathe and trimming down a lot of 7.62 x 39 brass, not sure how cost effective it would be, but it might be gratifying!

My first 10mm, a Kimber Stainless Target II, arrives at my FFL on Friday.

Really looking forward to it. It will be the biggest auto caliber I've ever shot. Have a 44M, 44SP, 41M and 357's, plus several 1911 45ACP's, but this should be different.

Update:

Made it in and have had it out to the range three times now. Really like it. Bought 1000 pcs. of Starline brass so I'm loading like crazy.

Just picked up my first 10mm pistol from forum member DD977GM2 over in the classifieds. It's a Glock 29 SF and I AM PUMPED! Have handled a buddy's G20 with 6" KKM stainless barrel for hunting extensively and his Colt Mark IV Delta which is mucho smooth. But this is the first 10mm Auto added to my herd.

Picked up a 3rd Gen Glock 29 last month. Threw on a TLR-3 and that's my current backpacking/camping gun. Used to have a Gen 2 G20 which was alright but the lack of a rail forced me to sell it and get the G29. Thought I'd never find one decently priced in today's market but snagged one with a lot of upgrades, front night sight, and an extra LW .40 barrel for $600 shipped.

I'd be surprised if it would fire. Headspacing off the case mouth and the much shorter case means it would be free to fall deep into the chamber.

As long as the extractor held the round to the breech face, it is possible it could fire. Similar to shooting .45 ACP in a gun chambered for .460 Rowland's.

Not recommended, but possible.

Heard claims uncle Ted (Nugent) has done it with a Glock. I think it would be very hit and miss for reliability. I tracked down Lone Wolf 10mm to 40sw conversion barrels for my G20 and G29 and they work fine, no issues, using 10mm mags.

Give me some details, please. I really like the way the subtle yet noticeable mods look, not too much, just about right. I want to do some mods on my Delta but don't know how far I'm willing to go. Did you dovetail the slide front and machine the rear for the sites? Did you have it done locally? Who's grip safety, and is it a drop in or did you radius the frame? What make on the slide lock and thumb safety, I like the way they look? It looks like the main spring housing may be blue and is arched? I can't see the trigger very well, what is it?

Finally dug out my ten's for family photo. Left to right: Delta Elite, S&W 1006, Glock 29-3, Glock 40-4 MOS, Glock 20-3 and Glock 20-4. I can't seem to make up my mind on an optic for the 40. Leaning toward the Trijicon when my EOTec check gets here. The gen 3, 20 and 29 are my mountain guns. The Delta is going to get some custom work in the near future, if I can figure out exactly what.

Sorry for the delay Big E3, I've been off the grid for weeks!
......So I'm very blessed to have some great friends who are excellent machinists. We threw the slide up on the mill and just followed the instructions for the rear sight since we had the correct dove-tail cutter. We needed to EDM the front sight since we did not have the correct DT cutter! The grip and thumb safety are both Ed Brown. The trigger is a STI. I installed the grip safety which needed the frame to be radius cut. All parts and beavertail radius jig I purchased from Brownells. If you'd like to borrow the radius jig, just let me know! The mainspring housing is a cheap plastic arched style. Just temporary until I machine and weld in the Stan Chen magwell. If you're thinking of doing this work yourself and highly suggest it! It was a blast to do this, just go REALLY slow and only remove a little material at a time. Good luck and please post pics of work!

That's great info thanks. I have done grip safeties before, along with frame radius. I have a .225 jig but I think Colt uses a .250 radius, so I may borrow yours when the time comes. I hate to borrow anything, may buy one. I have done triggers and hammers as well. I don't have any way to cut the dovetails on the slide so thinking Bert on that.

Is your slide release an Ed Brown? And what sites? What kind of finish did you do to get that look, it looks different than the original?

S&W 1076, former FBI issue that was returned to S&W then resold on the market (lots of info on them on the SW forum and net in general). Residing with my older son temporarily while his other pistol is off having some work done. Frankly I really don't enjoy shooting it much-harsh recoil and the bore line (as with all S&W 3rd gen pistols) is too high for me.
