Was just going through some of the photos of this whole event and came across photo #35 at this link: http://photos.denverpost.com/2013/12/13/photos-shooting-at-arapahoe-high-school-in-centennial/

Not totally up to date on all the uniforms that LEOs around the area wear but in looking at this photo I notice that the sleeve patches indicate she is a Department of Wildlife officer. Do they normally carry "Urban Street Rifles" set up that nicely? Also wondering what tactical advantage does she get by just going with about 20 rounds in that 30 round mag?

Sorry, I would link the exact photo but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

If nothing else, just thought that photo was interesting.

When this was all going on I was listening to the scanner - and everyone under the sun was responding. As someone close to the situation said to me "Way too many chiefs... But we had a metric fuck ton of Indians.."

yeah she is, she even got that Bronco Pride.

I'm going to call skepticism on whether the LOP on that A2 stock is appropriate for her body, though.

Looks to me like her mag is full. Compared to the windowed PMags that I gave to charity on June 30th, that one looks full. Gotta allow room for the spring and all that.

I'm not sure about now, but Colorado DOW used to go through the federal law enforcement academy at Quantico... same as the FBI
That should make them pretty capable field officers.

Remember seeing the photo and noticing her hotness and all, but choose not to post about it (her being there and all). Probably because I took a carbine class with a DOW officer last year and asked him what he was doing there and I guess they are certified just like cops. So with that knowledge I just assumed all you guys would already know this.

DOW started carrying AR's when people started cooking meth out in the woods.

SO last year up elk hunting I got checked by a different redhead up in unit 51. Now, she had a g21 on her, and not only that, she had a f350 diesel. Things are adding up for the dow, not only was there a diesel and a 45, but she made this gal look like she fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch going down. Our whole hunting party had hardons and we allowed her to fondle anything she wanted....I have my gripes about the dow, but some of their officers are getting hotter and hotter out side of boulder county. Boulder county though, has 2 fat ass dikes that are complete bitches...They'd probably pull this crap at Arapahoe:

It depends on their park. Sometimes the park provides and sometimes they have to buy their own. They are Colorado POST certified and go through a CO academy.

It seems that many times there are way too many chiefs, especially under normal, every day operations, but that day did not seem that way at all. With so many elements, jobs to do, and positions to cover, there was actually not a ton of orders flying around. The command post communications, once up, ran pretty smoothly in my opinion and they relayed information as it came in and relayed what they wanted. There never seemed to be a power struggle at all.

Good to hear this. It's always better if the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.

I would certainly say the active shooter training is paying off. Multiple agencies worked together very well inside. There was a lot that went exactly how training goes and lot that we never even thought of that was taught.

I get the feeling that "Active Shooter" is similar in nature to "Broken Arrow". Every available asset rolls in response.
And yes, she is not bad on the eyes.

As a longtime volunteer for DOW/CPW, I can attest that the majority of their female officers and employees are attractive, highly competent, and most are as nice as can be. It's always a pleasure to work with them.

I've also been involved in active shooter training for LEOs. I think in time as more attacks are shown to be unsuccessful that we'll see fewer of them. The Aurora theater shooting seemed to be an anomaly in that there was no one armed and able to confront the perp. In don't think that would happen in our town. We have to eliminate the gun free zones and the politicians who support them.

State level officer. State POST requirements. Probably is assigned to either Cherry Creek or Chatfield state park, if I was a betting man.

You luckily missed it then. There was quite a bit of the old "who's got the bigger penis" going on there. Quite a bit of the need for media attention as well. ACSO and Sheriff Grayson Robinson did a great job in handling this.

There were people there from a very long distance away, wanting to assist.

I get that impression too, especially at a school. I think every school within the metro area was locked down. The kids also said that they noticed increased police presence at the local schools.

They learned from Columbine.

A shorter magazine might be easier to get in and out of the front of the car.

If I had to guess, she was a ranger from Cherry Creek SP. Parks and Wildlife got merged a few years ago, and a few of the wildlife guys have spent some serious coin on their rifles. (When I was with Parks, it was pistols only and shotguns if the senior ranger really liked the idea, and not a rifle to be seen. This was over a decade ago.)

ETA: They're certified by the state POST board, not any Federal anything. DOW used to use the academy at Red Rocks, and Parks used Arapahoe, but that might have changed since the merger. There is a federal school that they try to send people to, but that's a school specific to boating and boat enforcement, run by USCG. I put in for it, but they weren't going to spend money on training seasonals.

Both of our DOW, and USFS LEO's are armed to the hilt.
More firepower than SWAT.

Well, good to see that the LEOs are armed like this. I never would have thought a DOW officer would be armed like this but all the better. She has about as a good a chance of being one of the first LEOs on the scene as anyone else so why not.

I work with a lady who's husband is DOW. They always are dealing with bad guys as much as the city LEO's. DOW usually doesn't have much for backup, they have to handle, cuff, deliver the defendant by themselves. Usually in a pickup with them in the front seat.

Glad they have all the firepower and then some.

Just an FYI:

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson released new details Tuesday afternoon about the items the shooter brought with him into the school. He was armed with a 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun; three functional Molotov cocktails, a machete in a canvas scabbard and more than 125 rounds of assorted types of shotgun ammunition (steel-shot, buckshot and slug).

According to investigators, the shooter carried numerous rounds of shotgun ammunition in two bandoliers worn across his chest and waist and carried the remaining items in a backpack.

So I think that he selected the shotgun because it is easy to operate, requires less precision marksmanship, and was less expensive to buy the shotgun and ammo. He was 18 years old and probably new that he didn't have a good understanding of marksmanship, so he wanted a "point and shoot" type of firearm. All the ammo meant that he planned to take many others with him, thank God he was stopped early in his sick act.

Back in '06 I dealt with a really hot one in Parker, and there was one on JCSO back then that was cute... more recently I've met two that were good looking out of I don't know how many in the last 6 months... yes, your statement is extremely accurate. [Beer]
