Any tips on breaking in a new BCG? I lubed it up and dropped it into my M&P 15. It turned it into a single shot rifle. Dropped the old one back in and the rifle ran like a sewing machine. Not happy but I might be doing something wrong.
There must be something wrong with the new assembly. Hard to say what it might be.

It was cheap. It was $99 from Midway USA. It had mixed reviews. I guess I should have avoided it and spend an extra $30-50.
I've just got to ask... why would you buy a $99 bolt carrier assembly to replace the one in your M&P rifle? Seems like kind of a downgrade rather than an upgrade? Just curious.

Its a new build for a 300BLK. I dont have a barrel so I just dropped it in my 5.56 rifle to break it in.

The only difference between the two carriers is that the new one has more metal on the bottom making it a bit heavier. I hear there are 3 or 4 different carriers out on the market. This one said it was M-16 bolt carrier group mil spec and same material as all the other BCG's. Too good to be true I guess.
I'm sure whatever is wrong with it is probably a quick, easy fix. You'll have fun with the 300. It's a neat little round to play with.
Check to make sure the extractor has the correct spring plus the little rubber post and o ring other then that lube the crap outta it

Check for staggered gas rings and gas ring tension. Check the gas key screws for tightness and properly staked.
Wash the carrier without the bolt in lacquer thinner or similar, make sure it is impeccably clean. Place ONE drop of bore cleaner or penetrant such as Kroil down the gas key. Give it a few minutes and check for any evidence of the solvent weeping between the key and bolt carrier. There should be none. If there is any the gas key needs to be fitted, lapped and fastened CORRECTLY.
You can tell very easily if the carrier is M16 cut or not. On a 16 carrier the the mill cut on the bottom "tail" of the carrier continues all the way to the end of the carrier.

M&P being a carbine? What size buffer do you have (Carbine, H, H2, H3)? What brand of ammo are you shooting? My rifle (M&P15T, carbine) turns single shot with Wolf or any other steel cased ammo. Perhaps you want to post up what brand BCG, $100 doesn't seem that "cheap" so I'm a little shocked.

It's an AR Stoner BCG. I cleaned it up more and it seems smoother. I'm learning as I go. I did not realize so many buffers and BCGs existed. I have not had a chance to test it again. I used a few different types of ammo. Some was wolf but some PMC bronze also.

I really hate to be the one to tell, you, but the Stoner BCGs are not very good. I have seen several with leaking gas keys. It might or might not be the problem, but I would be suspect of it.

This.
I had one that the bolt was soft and started peening over the lugs after just 15 rounds. The carrier was OK so I just got a replacement bolt.
Send it back and run from the AR-Stoner BCG and bolts.
Send it back
and order one of these:

Or, if you are on a tight budget, you could try one of these and let me know how it works.

I actually snagged one of those, haven't done anything with it. Couldn't find any good or bad reviews on it.

I picked one up as well. Have not tested in the new pistol yet.

Has anyone run the AIM BCG yet? I don't want two useless BCGs. I might have to suck it up and buy a top of the line BCG with proven reputation.

$189 vs $79 is a big difference. That's a lot of ammo. Anyone mix parts? Was thinking of just getting a Bravo company bolt only with the fancy extractor and spring.

I haven't found any mention of complaints on this current BCG from AIM.
They are a plain jane BCG with no fancy logo's or coatings. I have nothing to use the BCG in to test out or I would have, it looks solid though, compared it to my $200 NiB AAC carrier. Everything look good!
I actually have mine for sale as they have a NiB coated version for $124.99 that I would rather have.
They have a phosphate coated one as well for $99.99.
If you are looking for a good BCG that is good history or reputation check out a Spikes tactical. I have had a few of them over the last couple years, good quality and not as expensive as the BCM.
In fact;
ROGTAC has them on sale for $113.99 when you add them to the cart before shipping!!!! (http://www.rogtac.com/upper-parts/bcgs-charging-handles/bcg/spike-s-tactical-complete-bolt-carrier-group.html)
I've run a few Spike's BCG and never had a problem with them. Now I run the Bravo Company ones exclusively. Never had a problem with one of them either. Here is a link to an article that really sold me on the BCM product.

Decided on the Spikes from ROGTAC. $113.99 total, free shipping. thanks, it was only $7 less than the stoner after shipping. Hope it works. I'll work on getting the stoner one working better soon. I've already worked on it but not tested it yet. Maybe replace the bolt in the future. Got to get this gun running before my hog hunt in January.
Bring that thing over and we'll figure it out.

I'll take you up on that. When I get back in town we will talk. Second week of January. Thanks

Cleaned the AR stoner up and it still does not work. Don't know what is wrong. It works smooth like my orignal one with my M&P 15. The Spikes one is here and I can tell the quality difference just by looks and feel. Hopefully if works better. If anything I can use my old BCG with my new 300BLK and it works good.
