Incandescent light bulb will be harder to get starting Jan 1... I personally phased out all of mine a while back, but I still need a couple of 40' for some antique light fixture where cfl and even led cannot "yet" replace the warm glow of incandescent lights.

I hate those CFL bulbs. "Hang on while my light charges up."

Yep me too. That's why I switched to LED a couple of years ago. Never going back.

Thanks for the reminder, I've got a supply of 100W for the basement fixture that eats CFL like candy (turn on washer or dryer and that circuit sags/overvoltages). Might want to snag some 60W as a backup supply before they vanish.

Dont forget exterior lights. The ballast in the cfl is not cold start rated and they burn out every winter.

LED bulbs. Phase them in as they burn out.

My daughter is going to be sad when her easy bake oven doesn't work anymore.

Bought enough of every watt to last me years during the 100W phase-out.

Interesting. I use them in my outside light. I don't seem to have that problem.

I have almost all cfl now, but have already planned the LED switch.

Costco has a good price on a 3 pack of LED Bulbs, and my first batch have burned non stop since August with no issues.

I love that this is how we're fixing America's "problems" force people to buy CFLs as their freedoms continue to collapse.

"Because I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, freedom of choice. I'm the kind if guy who would sit in the greasy spoon and think "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the big rack of Barbecued spare ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I *want* high cholesterol. I want to eat bacon, butter and buckets of cheese alright? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinatti in a non-smoking section. I wanna run around naked with green jell-o all over my body reading a Playboy magazine. Why? Because maybe I feel the need to okay pal?"

I got 350 of them in an xcel rebate one year. 3 months later 100 were out. When we had a -5 degree week another 200 went out. About 50 did their job.

The newest batches have a -20 degree rated ballast. If its attached to a heated structure it might be ok but ones on poles burn out.

Meh, LED FTW. I have been replacing all my CFLs with LEDs as they burn out.

@ 13W we just leave ours on. Get about 3-4 years out of one bulb. Have to look into the LED's for home use now that they have come down but the thought of all those cheap china bridge rectifiers and transformers bother me. Seen enough items go up in smoke already.

[pick-me]...and finally...here's something that actually was George Bush's fault!

I've had way too many of the CFLs build up carbon near the ballast and damn near catch on fire continuously trying to start. Most of my incandescents have lasted longer.

LEDs are finally starting to come in with a more realistic price tag, but sometimes incandescent is the best choice.

I'm sure this is what our nation's founders had in mind. [dig]

Me neither...mine are 4 years old, not 1 has burned out.

I'll be going to LED when the price comes way down.

Same here.

I bet CFL will be phased out fairly soon for LED. I do have 1 LED bulb, and it only takes 0.9W. The glass bulb broke, and LED still works.
As people mentioned above, I am waiting for LED price to drop.

CFLs don't work great on a dimmer switch either. I haven't tried LED yet. I suppose if I don't have to replace the bulbs for 20 years then the price would be worth it. Can we talk more about LED bulbs since I eyeball them every time I go to the store?

I've had numerous people try to convince me to switch to LED's but I've yet to see a single indoor LED that doesn't have what is essentially that awful fluorescent quality of light to it. The warm ones are greenish and the "neutral" daylight-balanced ones are blueish with light that appears to be well above 5000*K.

I'm sticking with global warming inducing lights, they just look better and I'm willing to take off my jacket if the climate heats up due to my using them.

Hear Hear! I hate CFL and LED lights, the cast is horrible. I wonder what the black market on incandescent will be like?

Max out your credit cards over the next few months and find out first hand.

I propose Colorado registration for incadecent bulbs starting Jan 1, 2015. We need to think about the children.

I have swapped out all of my 100w can lights (they were on dimmers) to 15W LEDs' (dimmable of course), 22 Total in the entire house and my electric bill has gone down over $20+ per month for the last eight months or so...

The light is very comparable to the incandescents they replaced and I love saving the $$$$

Hmmm.....as I look into my crystal ball, I see a Walmart run on Saturday morning to purchase some apocalypse-causing bulbs, oh the joy of it all!

What was the cost of replacing the old bulbs? Approximately.
