Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a marlin model 60, but the more I look at them, the more questions I have. I am aware that the new marlin 60 has the 19" barrel, however I have also read that I can purchase a Model 75c and it has pretty much the same dimensions. Is this a case where the old models are better than the new ones (pre remington, as I don't think I'll buy a post- remington one)? I also keep seeing the different barrel lengths (22" and 19") but cannot find ballistics on .22 lr with barrels longer than 19 inches, does it really make that much difference if the rifle will be used for plinking and probably squirrel shooting as well? I'm not asking you guys to tell me exactly what to buy or anything, just curious as far as differences in the platform altogether.
One last question/gripe: why is the marlin papoose so damned expensive?

It's a plinking .22 I wouldn't worry about ballistics between a 19 & 22 inch barrel. That's all I've got..

The 75 was the carbine version of the old 60. Same OAL as a 10-22. I like mine circa 78.
75 and 10-22.
One last question/gripe: why is the marlin papoose so damned expensive? It's for the children. [Flower]http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac44/jerrymrc/toys/IMG_1137.jpg (http://s884.photobucket.com/user/jerrymrc/media/toys/IMG_1137.jpg.html)

The initial design was a 22" barrel where the bullet tube was the same length as the barrel. As I understand, the tube was shortened to 15 rounds to comply with CA or similar laws, then the barrels were shortened so the barrel and tube were the same length. I am not sure when this occurred, but seems like it was the mid 90's. If you really want a 22" barrel, you are likely better off finding a pre-remington.
Legal Is correct, the barrel was shorten to limit the bullet tube capacity. I believe it changed in 1983-4 when a CA law changed and include tube magazines. I have a 22" beater that is a superb shooter with iron sights.
