View Full Version : Where to buy a good leather jacket?

Any advice on where to find a good, well made leather jacket? I've gotten some nice "designer" jackets as presents over the last few years but the leather is so "soft and supple" (flimsy) that they don't hold up to brushing against a display rack at a grocery store (King Soopers just put a nice dime size hole in my latest).

Somewhere between Denver and Co Springs would be good and any advice on brands would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've had a couple jackets from Wilson Leather that were solid.

Taylor's Leatherwear. I have one of theirs from many years ago, and it's still in great shape. Extremely well built.

Actually, what size do you wear?

2nd for foxcreekleather.com. But I've only bought riding leather gear through them. Don't know about any other type of jackets they may do.

Joseph A Banks when they run the buy one get two or three free deal. That's assuming you need the other two or three.
Wilson's Leather has some heavy duty leather leather jackets as well (some ultra thin ones too)

Wilson's leather has been good to us. Or make your own!

I picked up a nice one at Kohl's a few years back in an after-Christmas sale for $99. Very well made. Can't recall what brand it is. I also picked one up at a motorcycle swap meet. No way you could wear a hole in this thing rubbing up against anything. Of course, it is so stiff and thick you can barely move your arms.

^^^this^^^ What style, purpose, etc,. may help refine the search.

If you are in the right place at the right time, Kohl's can be your friend. A few years back, I scored a really nice Docker's-branded casual leather jacket off the clearance rack, plus an add'l xx% off. Originally $365, final price was around $65. Classically styled, favorably priced, and even the right size. Couldn't pass it up.

Got a biker style heavy duty leather jacket I wore 3 times before hanging it up (riding too). I think it's a Wilson's Leather and might even have a zip-out liner. I paid over $300 for it but would let it go for $100. PM me if you're interested.

Just keep in mind, the CEO of Kohl's, brother's, wife's, son voted for Obama, and is very anti 2a, so you shouldn't shop there..... I kid I kid.

I've had great luck with Wilson's.

You actually aren't kidding at all. Google up Herb Kohl. [Dunno]
Herb is pretty liberal and I definitely wouldn't call him a friend to the 2a.
This is the only senator I've ever gotten to speak with in person (I grew up in WI), and he'd always be out "pressing the flesh" at State Farm near his "milkhouse." He was a politician. Seemed very nice, I actually think he was mostly sincere since he would say things you didn't necessarily want to hear, but definitely a liberal and definitely a politician by that point.

Having said all that, the company is publicly traded at this point. I shop there myself on occasion, and it was one of the places I missed after moving but before it became as big as it is now.

Eh, I didn't take any time to research it, but figured with all the butt hurt in the other threads, it was an appropriate response.

I would never have known all this not growing up in WI. Plus, he basically donated an arena equivalent to the Pepsi Center to my college when I was there, so it was hard to hate the guy, despite his politics. In fact, I'm pretty sure he was my one and only democrat vote ever, and that was because the R in that race was an even bigger f/up, although I can't remember the details. That was my wild experimentation back in college, yikes!
I think he started with supermarkets. They were both just "Kohl's" although the wordmark was different and the food store not nearly so nice, even back 25-30 years ago.

Yours probably was an appropriate response.

wait men shop at kohls? my wife gets the little catalogs in the mail and I thought it was for women and light in the loafers people.

Lol, I was guilty of the same thing after moving to the "city".

Check the tag. I've been looking for a good-quality leather jacket recently as well. Every Levi/Docker jacket I've seen in the stores looks and feels like leather, but is actually some kind of plastic. I haven't found one jacket made of actual leather in any department store I've looked in.

I've had a couple of great heavy-duty leather jackets from Wilson's over the years; they are a good place to look. I think I'm going to check the motorcycle shops next.

First off I'd like to thank everyone for their responses. Some great info and guidance.

I'm looking for something dressier but still high quality. If I ever find myself on a motorcycle it will already be a life threating event and my jacket will be the last of my concerns. :) (Kat thought this made me sound like kind of a bitch and I'm OK with that since I'm not going for a ride with you.... and I am secure with my manhood).

BTW I'm a 46 or XL, not shooting for XXL but maybe a smaller XL if you have something for sale (adding because there have been some good offers just not the right size).
