I want to congratulate you but it seems like there is misinformation in both the first and second articles. In the first one, yours, what guns are you referring to that are illegal to buy in the states?

The second article is trying to be helpful, but falls short because there is no such thing as a "special permit" to obtain class III weapons. Also, the guy makes it sound like it is difficult to obtain, which is untrue.

I think he is correct as far as those cartel's automatic weapons are illegal to be purchased in the gunshow or store w/o the proper BATF. The brady people are potraying that purchasing full auto rifle & grenade launcher are so simple and non-trackable. So far the mexican authority have not produced any evidence of fully auto weapon that are registered and bought in US.

Those are US made weapon, yes... but it's more likely obtained through corrupted authority within the Mexican LE or Military.

Good job on the letter btw.

Here is the original article..
http://www.gazette.com/opinion/drug_49526___article.html/mexican_war.html

"an estimated 97 percent of the arms used by the Mexican cartels - including military-grade grenade launchers and assault weapons - are purchased at sporting goods stores and gun shows on the U.S. side of the border and then smuggled south, according to the Mexican government." Congrats, Ryan, that was well done. Letters to the editor have to keep in mind the reading-comprehension and attention span of the average newspaper subscriber. "Tax stamp" doesn't mean anything to non-enthusiasts, but "permit" is easily understood.

"difficult to obtain" is absosmurfly correct. Get forms, fill out forms, get pictures, pat head and rub belly, get signatures, have a virgin lick the envelope and deliver it on a unicorn, wait for who knows how long, and pay out the ass due to a distortion of supply and demand.

"easy to obtain" would be going into the gun store, filling out the yellow form, and leaving with your purchase 15 minutes later.

I love unsubstanciated statistics. Here, let me give you an example.

An estimated 97% of Americans that believe the Mexican drug cartels are getting their Ma'chin guns and RRRRRocket launchers from the USA are stupid. The other 3% have died from their stupidity since the President of the USA actually spoke that stupid crap on TV.[Puke]

Loved the letter BTW.

I was talking about Title II weapons, and I should reiterate, no they aren't illegal to buy, just to posses, unless you paid the tax stamp, blah blah.

For the vast majority of the public, they are, through rediculous regulations and cost involved, out of reach. You might as just well say Illegal.
