View Full Version : Try before you Buy? .243?
Is there any place around here that let's you shoot a gun before you buy it?
I'm looking to get my wife a .243 but I don't know anyone that has one I can borrow for her to shoot.
Is there anybody here willing to loan me one for a day or that's willing to go with us to shoot? If you do, I'll buy ammo and lunch for the day!

I've got 1 that I don't mind if your wife shoots. PM me. But I can't do anything till next week
I have a .243 as well. FWIW, my 12 year(88 pounds) old shoots a .308 and it has a little more versatility if you are looking for hunting.
My 11 year old has his own 243win. He was kinda intimidated by it at first because of the loudness, but after shooting it he realized it was no bid deal. No he keeps begging to go back out and shoot some prairie dogs.

Thanks for the invite, BRO.

My rifles will be at Centennial gun club on Sunday the 5th. Their range in open, and you can shoot both if you like! problem is; it's an AR-15 in 5.56!! Shouldn't be a problem for her to handle, just not a .243
That offer goes for anyone; it's there Grand opening and they sell my rifles there.

I have a .308 too that I was thinking of having her try this first, but I'm not sure she would enjoy the "recoil". She's kinda girly!!! Skinny shoulders!

If we can get away, this might be good idea. I'd like her to try as many as possible before we drop any cash.

Years ago I built a Fal in .243 for the wife. At least in a gas gun neither of us noticed a big difference in recoil. At the time I was still getting 147gr .308 bullets for $55 per K and the .243 bullets to load were 3 times that. Went back to .308 for that gun.
For what your trying to do I would have a similar gun in .308 just to see if there is a difference that she notices.[Flower]
Feel free to come down to Pueblo for any of our Sniper/Prairie Dog matches. You guys can put as many rounds through my 243 as you want.

If I can talk her into it, we're in!

Ok... I'm gonna try try a limb saver and get her on the .308 and see what she thinks. I'm hoping she's good with it. If she doesn't... Then I'll give ya a call!!!

Sure thing.
FWIW, My DIL shot my 700P LTR .308 with a brake on it. Easy Peasy.
She also shot the Sig716P with combo brake/FH.
My Ma shot a Ruger M44 and Model 94 30-30 deer hunting when I was younger. She wasn't too keen on shooting the 30-06.
Them wimenz can shoot.
She can try my wife's .308. She took a Mule deer with it this year! She will be fine with it. I have a .243 she can try also
I've only shot a .243 a few times (member COeskimo's) and it's an incredibly pleasant caliber to fire, no pain at all. I might also add that he has taken some rather impressive critters with it...

.243 round in my experience is a good round. My dad has a remi 700 .243 and growing up it was on of my favorite to shoot. Low recoil, lighter smaller then the win m70 in .270. Growing up using the .243 I got my first Alaskan moose and several caribou with the .243
With good shot placement it worked well for me.

I figured the .243 could take down big game. I've just never talked to/ knew anyone that's used it to do so. Head shots or heart and lung shots?!?
