Good luck on the gauges...question

If they indicate the head space is out of tolerance, what can you do about it?
Or, how do you correct this situation?

reset bbl head space. either in or out then drill, for the bbl pin.

Yes, i have go/no go clymer

I'd need you to get someone to vouch for you if you want to borrow for a bit.

No offense.

No offense taken. I'm not looking to put anyone in an awkward position. I figured I'd just put out the request before picking some up.

I'm doing my first build. I bought a matching Romanian kit. So far I've de-milled the old kit, and I'm now starting to assemble. I'd like to verify that the original headspace is indeed correct.

you can drop by and use them with no worries if you just want a quick check.

99% of the matching kits are gtg for headspace from the factory though. I'd honestly only check it just before you test fire.

Did you get a kit with an original barrel intact, or an AK builder kit with a new barrel installed?

^^^^^^ This.

Most of the time your good with the original factory barrels. If someone else set the headspace then I would check it. I have a NOGO gauge and I usually end up using a couple of pieces of scotch tape and a live round for my GO gauge. Scotch tape usually adds about .002" per piece.

This is all I've done in the past with matching kits.

I got an kit with original barrel intact, not a AK builder kit.

Wulf, I just pressed the barrel in. I still need to rivet in the trigger guard and rear trunnion. When it's all finished, I'd like to take you up on the offer and stop by to just verify the headspace. It sounds like it will be correct... but better safe than sorry.

Thanks all.

I have go/no-go gauges in 7.62x39 SAAMI spec. Wulf202, are clymer Russian spec? I wanted Russian spec, but wasn't able to find them at the time, since I shoot Russian steel through my AK.

Clymer are saami spec. Russian specs are more vodka influenced.

Just hit me up when you're ready

I also have x54r

does anyone know the difference, if any, between SAAMI and CIP?

As far as I know the difference is load pressures. Cip is like 42k or 45k. Saami is 50k. There should be no dimensional differences.

Manson gauges are marked CIP.

Is there really a load for 7.62x 39 that can reach 50k?

when you start runing them thru .308 barrels not .311 barrels...
