View Full Version : Corrective lenses and parallax.
I have been having trouble keeping a good zero. Two shots will be right on the money, 2 will be high right, 2 will be right. I went out today with a new load, and the first 2 shot with glasses were 1.5" high and .5" right. I took off my glasses and the remaining 8 shots were all less than half MOA. That was all the center fire I had with me, and of course, I left my rim fire at home. Is it me, or are my glasses the problem? If it is the glasses, would contacts help or would I run into the same issue? Thanks.
Leave your glasses off Mr. Magoo. (you're probably too young to know who that is, making it less funny)

Something I've wanted to ask too, but never remember it.
What do you do if your vision is so bad, the scope can't adjust for it? My vision is horrible, if I take off my glasses and look through the scope, it doesn't have enough focus adjustment in it to correct and all I see is a blur (both target and reticle).
I can't wear contacts anymore because I had a serious eye infection years ago and my doc advised against them. Lasik/PRK is not an option right now.

Talk to your optometrist. You'll be surprised what they can adjust for if you only ask. Go in and say 'shooting glasses' and they know exactly what you're talking about.
That's right. You need glasses that are designed to be looked through with your eyes pointing way up. Normal glasses are designed to be looked through with your eyes roughly level.

If you were up in NoCo i'd recommend a gun friendly optometrist, NFAtrustguy / rodney knows him too.

I have a very weak prescription, but generally I look over the top of my glasses when using a scope.

Before my surgery, I was legally blind in one eye and pretty close in the other. I never gave too much thought to the fact that my glasses would get in the way of proper parallax/other scope adjustment.
i can still occasionally hit the barn, but only if I'm standing on the inside.

If you have ever seen Knochbloch shooting glasses, and the way the frames can be adjusted to move the proper portion of the eyeglass lens to the center of where the eyeball is looking through............
So, in prone, you very well could be looking through an outside portion of the lens, not getting a clear view. Some shooters using regular glasses, use stuff on the nose pads to move the center of the lens to the right place.
Google, and you will find lots of info on your question......and yes, shooting without prescription glasses can work.........
Thanks RANGERRONT72! I will check them out!
