REVISIONIST HISTORY: Speaker Ferrandino Tries to Rewrite Last Session’s Testimony Time Restrictions
Another year begins and still no punctuation mark for sarcasm has gone mainstream and we assume Speaker Ferrandino is lamenting the same. How else could he keep a straight face while trying to pass off such bald-face lies he told The Colorado Statesman?
In a preview of this year’s upcoming legislative session, Ferrandino had this to say about the many times the Democrats ignored Coloradans last session:
“House Speaker Mark Ferrandino of Denver scoffed at the idea that Democrats pushed an agenda that ignored constituents in any part of the state.
‘That is hysterical because I don’t remember any time we shut down debate,’ the Denver Democrat said. ‘Everyone was allowed to speak, we never closed debate. Unlike what happened the year before, we limited testimony, but that’s been something that’s happened in this legislature for a very long time and will continue to happen. But everyone had a say.’
‘There’s a difference between having your voices heard and getting your way,’ Ferrandino added. ‘Just because you don’t get your way, doesn’t mean your voice isn’t heard.’” [the Peak emphasis]
As a simple rebuttal here’s a tweet from at-the-time Denver Post reporter Tim Hoover:
Kagan asks all those who were opposed but didn’t get to testify to stand. Practically everyone in room stands up. #coleg #copolitics

And, here is what we wrote at the time about the restrictions on testimony time.
Speaker Ferrandino how do you reconcile saying “everyone had a say” with a whole room of people standing, having their time to speak stripped from them? How can you say “doesn’t mean your voice isn’t heard” when literally people from across Colorado came to the dome for a chance to speak and left without saying a word? Where does such self-righteousness arrogance come from to admonish the average Coloradan like they were some petulant child?
Don’t bother trying to answer, these questions were rhetorical; much like when you and your fellow Democrats asked Coloradans, “What do you think about these gun bills?”
Saw that same snippet in CO statesman (http://www.coloradostatesman.com/content/994566-house-gop-looks-tweak-few-issues-last-year).
So here is a question for you: 5000 people line up to tell you something and you listen to the first 500. Have the voices of those 500 been amplified 10x by the crowd so effectively everyone was heard?
If pressed that is what was meant by "everyone was heard." Not literally heard but point was made. The sheriffs did this well, few speakers but all standing and speaking with that one voice.
Now whether the voices were actually heard over the fascinating angry birds games is open to debate. :)

When they are not listening you cannot be heard.

The sheriffs were forced to do that. They all came to speak, and the Dems rewrote the rules at the last minute and told them that only one could.

Allowing everyone to literally speak their 3 minutes before a vote allows for a citizens filibuster. While an awesome idea I don't know of anywhere that actually allows such a thing.

To be clear... That was me that was told to shut up... In two different meetings. Once was upstairs, the other one was in the old Supreme court room. I was first on both lists and protested both times only to be told to go talk to the Republicans, they made out who could talk. The format was setup by the Dems to severely limit all discussion... and it worked. The third meeting was the only one any of us got to speak (I was first on that one too) and that was only because they wanted to have a recess due to Kopel being in another meeting at the same time. There was NOTHING public about those meetings except the public was allowed to attend the ram rodding of those laws down our throats!!!

Yeah, this is the same guy who refuses to even hold a floor debate on Jessica's Law much less put it to a vote. He needs to be sent packing to San Francisco or whereever NAMBLA HQ is.

THIS!
They refused to hear us in session, so they got to hear us in the recalls....
It seems that we should continue with this approach as long as they continue to try to game the system. I say hold the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House responsible for these subversions of the process. Recall the bastards oif they refuse to hear us, just like Morse and Giron(Hudak as well, even though she bailed).

While yes, the problem is Hudak opened the door to the "bail and save the seat" method. I think it was the fact that Morse and Giron weren't expected by the left to actually be successfully recalled (liberal ego).

I hope that everyone will watch the House and Senate calendars for any repeal bills that are introduced and scheduled for committee. The House version of the "mag ban" repeal bill (Holbert-Saine) will be introduced during late January or early February. There will probably be one or more bills introduced in the Senate as well. Please do come and be heard.
Keep in mind that all 65 House members and 18 of the 35 Senate seats are up for election this year. Remember those who voted against the bills last year and give them an encouraging word. Every Republican voted "No," plus three House Democrats and two Senate Democrats. HB 13-1224 passed the House by two votes and the Senate by one vote. Maybe this year, it would be more effective to encourage Democrats to do the right thing and repeal this most parochial bill of their 2013 citizen-control agenda.
The House and Senate Calendars are updated at about 5:00 PM each legislative day (M-F) and posted here:

Meet House Bill 14-1151: The BI-PARTISAN bill to repeal the "mag ban," the statute that was created by HB 13-1224. Thank you to Senator Lois Tochtrop (D-Adams County) for adding her name to the list of co-sponsors and making this a bi-partisan effort.
The Bill: HB14-1151.pdf (http://www.leg.state.co.us/Clics/CLICS2014A/csl.nsf/fsbillcont3/E288C7EF72ADFAB887257C300005C225?Open&file=1151_01.pdf)
Watch the House Calendar for when the bill is scheduled to be heard in committee and please come to the Capitol to be heard.
Calendars Available Here: http://www.leg.state.co.us/CLICS/CLI...s?OpenFrameSet (http://www.leg.state.co.us/CLICS/CLICS2014A/csl.nsf/Calendars?OpenFrameSet)
If you see your State Representative and/or State Senator's name listed as a co-sponsor, please contact him/her to offer your thanks for his/her support. You DON'T have to contact those people to explain why each should support the bill -- because they already support it.

House Judiciary Committee
Thursday, January 30, 1:30 p.m.
House Committee Room 112
House Bill 14-1041, Concealed Handgun Carry without a Permit, by Representative Jared Wright and yours truly.
The bill proposes that Colorado join Arizona, Alaska, and Wyoming in removing restrictive statute so that a law-abiding citizen to carry a handgun concealed without a permit for any reason other than the commission of a crime. Those three states are 'permit optional' and still offer a permit so that those who want reciprocity with other states can obtain it through existing agreements. Vermont has no permit system, but law-abiding residents can carry a handgun concealed for any purpose other than the commission of a crime.
In 2011, I was thrilled to pass this concept through the State House for the first time. The vote was 40 "Yes," 25 "No." All 33 Republicans at that time, plus seven Democrats, voted in favor of the bill. Forty Representatives voted "Yes" only to have THREE Senate Democrats kill the bill in the Senate "kill committee." Stand for your freedom and liberty for all. Come testify in support of "Constitutional Carry"!

Focus your advocacy on the members of the House Judiciary Committee. Representatives Bob Gardner, Polly Lawrence, Carole Murray, and Mark Waller have all voted in favor of the bill before and there is no reason to question their support this year. Representatives Daniel Kagan and Pete Lee voted in favor of my bill in 2011, but have since voted against the measure. Representatives Buckner, Court, McLachlan, Pettersen, and Salazar have always opposed the measure.
Here's a link to the House Judiciary Committee page where members are listed with "clickable" links to their respective Member Page with email address.

Remember to ask each member how he/she intends to vote. Expressing your opinions is fine, but what you really want to know is how each member intends to vote - and why.

This would be an awesome step in the right direction if that concealed carry bill passes. I'll be sending email!
Thanks for the updates and links. Unfortunately here in Aurora my state rep is Fields, so it's like explaining algebra to a deaf retard. Maybe not PC, but I'm on my 3rd glass of scotch after an argument with a neighbor about him practicing with his band at 11pm.

Actually I know foreign speaking deaf met tally handicapped with learning disability kids who are much more advanced than fields. My wife works with them and helps them read. Unfortunately there is no hope for fields as even the best teachers in the world can't teach and dumbass like her.
and sorry to here about your neighbors boy band. That has got to be annoying
