What is the verdict of all the AK Gurus here on a new Yugoslav Zastava N-PAP AK47 with wood furniture for $529.95 ? Rifle, not the pistol that was a topic in a recent buyer intel thread. I missed out on the same rifle with poly furniture for $456.95. Is it worth the extra $75 for a wood version ?
I know, back in "04" everyone was getting them for $199.99 or something like that, but is this a good price nowadays ?

I have looked at a couple of these for sale in the $500 range, one wood and one synthetic. Overall they looked pretty good but both had misaligned rear sights angled way off to the right and the front sight adjusted all the way right up against the sight hood. Not a confidence builder for me so I passed on the purchase.

Considering WSAR10 rifles are in the 500-600$ range now, I would say that is a good deal on a yugo. The one I have has been a solid shooter.

I'd have to agree. Seems like the price of a half way decent AK starts around $600 these days.

I have a N-PAP under folder and for $599, it was a pretty good deal. With the O-PAP and N-PAP series you're getting a factory made Serbian rifle (minus required 922r parts) for under $600. Not bad considering the alternative in the same price range is Century's craptastic parts kit rifles and all the build issues that tend to come with them. My only complaint with mine was the gas piston. The geniuses at Century decided to weld (yes weld) the piston to the carrier instead of pinning it. Easy enough to fix but it confirms the drunken monkeys are still on the job at Century Arms.

My Arsenal rifles are more polished but they also cost almost twice as much. If you're looking for a solid shooter the current crop of imported yugos is hard to beat IMHO.
