Gemtech Worry

I own a Gemtech Trek. I use it solely on my .223 recce style AR.


I have noticed that it has about 1/8th of an inch wiggle, regardless of how many turns have been completed while threading it on. Only after it has been seated against the shoulder does the wiggle stop.


I haven't yet had an issue (baffle strike), but I'm still concerned about it being within tolerances with regard to bore concentricity.


Thoughts?

Until it is shouldered / at stop, you will have some "wiggle". That is due to neither item threaded by the same machine at the same place to the same tolerances. ALL my thread on cans 'wiggle" till at shoulder. I have a tac sol can and bbl, the can wiggles till shouldered. Same for my AAC brake to threads on a few different bbls . As long as the threads were cut concentric to the bore you're GTG.

Nice video. However the only way to ensure a set thread pitch / spec would be to have all your bbls not threaded from the factory. Then have GT or other smith service cut them to the your spec. You also need to know what specs the suppressor is threaded to.

FWIW: having numerous suppressors not one of them threads on to a bbl the same fit / tolerance. I check baffle - bore clearance using a 1 pc cleaning rod with shrink tubing on it. Insert rod to bbl with shrink tubing set where it is just touching the muzzle. I remove rod while checking fit / clearance to baffles. IF there's any doubt, that rifle is not slated for suppressor use. You can also use a laser bore sighter.

Here's an interesting WARNING GT has , YET i see numerous firearms with a crush washer between the suppressor mount and bbl shoulder. All my s/mounts are threaded to shoulder.

My gunsmith will not thread your barrel unless he has the can in hand, just so he can ensure proper thread pitch, depth and so on. The only one he will thread without having the can is for the thunderbeast. He has one of the their dies direct from them.
