ASA on January 15, 2014 - Comments
On January 14th, the Board of the American Silencer Association met with the leadership of the NFA Branch of the ATF. The meeting was cordial and productive, with the focus of the conversation centered on ATF 41P. After SHOT Show, we will post a full debrief of the meeting. For now, we would like to give you a brief update.
In all, there were 9,504 comments received on the Federal Register. Of those, around 1,000 were disqualified for vulgarity, anonymity, or non-applicability. As you know, the overwhelming majority of comments were in opposition to the proposed CLEO signoff requirement.
Sorry for the partial paste. The gist of it is that the possible new additional NFA encumbrances are put off for at least a year.
Good to know.

Nothing wrong with exercising your 1st amendment rights in voicing your disgust with this government.

True, but the second you resort to profanity etc you lose all credibility.
I've said elsewhere that the comments were meaningless not knowing they all had to be responded to. That number could have been pushed up quite a bit if we knew it would have any effect (like this delay in implementation)

True...but now we know for next time.
Agreed, I had no idea they were going to respond to my submission, but now I'm curious what sort of response I will see other than "thanks for your input"

You'll probably have to disqualify their response due to vulgarity.

Could have been as sensitive as someone saying "the current laws just don't make a damn lick of sense". I also think many chose to remain anonymous.

To echo some of the comments in the op's link, it's a shame that we're still in a defensive posture regarding the procurement of silencers and not on the offensive (removing silencers from the NFA entirely). To paraphrase one of them: the only way to kill someone with a silencer is to beat them over the head with it like a baseball bat.
