I'm planning on going out early this year - probably Saturday or Sunday, and then make it back to Denver on Friday before Easter to be home for the weekend with the family.

Anybody else going to make the trip?

If you register at http://www.rr4w.com/ they'll send you the yearly paper/flier with a ton of info or you can just view it as a pdf online.

If you've never gone wheeling in Moab, it's awesome. Completely different from anything in Colorado. The slickrock is amazing. Tons of videos on youtube from some of the more famous trails/obstacles.

I go to a Nissan and go to a similar event that is mostly Nissan Xterras. Been to EJS a few times, but hate rush hour traffic on the trails. Love watching Potato Salad Hill.

www.gonemoab.com is the Nissan event the week before Memorial Day.

Wild horses couldn't drag me to Moab on that weekend.

Milt's Diner, on Millcreek Rd, is a must. It's on the way to the Sand Flats. The chili cheese burger is a heart attack waiting to happen. Nom! [Dinner]

I want to go sometime. Not to run trails but to watch the madness and see all the vendor stuff.

First time I went during safari week, I thought I would hate it because of the crowds, but it turned out to be an awesome time. It's not everybody's thing, but I thought it was kinda cool to hear some of the leaders on the CB talking about some of the history of the trails and some of the original guys. Plus you get to hang out with a lot of people who are into the same things you are. Most are generally pretty cool. The vendor showcase and raffle thing - you either like those kind of things or you don't.

I'm sure it's obvious, but Moab is a completely different experience going some random weekend vs. EJS week.

Registration is open tonight and some of the trails are already fully booked. If you care about free vendor swag, check the flier as some of trails are sponsored. They usually give out tshirts or work gloves, towels, or some other sort of stuff.
If anybody ends up going, here are the trails I'm running in case you want to hook up.

Sun: Hell's Revenge + Escalator
Mon: Metal Masher
Tue: Moab Rim
Wed: Steel Bender
Thr: Cliffhanger

I am really considering it. I am on the verge of ordering a new 4-door and would be very happy to break it in at EJS. I would likely do the freshman or sophmore package so that the wife could drive and enjoy as well.

I was also wondering if there is anywhere to escape to there or en-route to moab to do a little shooting? lots of dessert to play in!

I'll be out there in early April but only on the dirtbike no Jeep this year.

Tons of places along I70, and Moab I believe is basically in the middle of BLM land. You could also ask some of the Grand Junction guys for suggestions.

I wouldn't go shooting anywhere truly in the immediate area around Moab during EJS week, or off any of the main trails. Too many people camping, hiking and wheeling. You never know when someone will be coming right around the corner. But I doubt you'll have any problems finding a place. You could call the Moab information center and they'd probably have some suggestions for you, but once you make the drive you'll know what I'm talking about.

Make sure you read up or ask about the cryptobiotic soil - you don't want to walk or drive on that stuff as some of it takes hundreds of years to grow back.

I have read about the cryptobiotic soil before. it is amazing. I am definitely all about treading lightly, staying on the trail, etc. I am a Stay the Trail member :)

I'm heading out Saturday morning. Did anyone else decide to go? Would be cool to meet up for a beer...

I just came back on Monday. The weather was PERFECT for motorcycles. We ran Poison Spyder, Hell's, Slickrock trail, Sovereign Singletrack, Gold Bar, Golden Spike, Fins, etc. It was my first trip out and I'm already planning another trip for this fall. Probably the coolest place I've been in North America!

Definitely will - had some good shots last year, and filmed it all on the gopro as well. The problem was sorting through it all afterwards.

The one and only time I've been out there it friggen snowed on us. Terrible. 20 people crammed into a hotel room since no one brought snow gear. then had to dig our camp site out of the snow and mud next day.

Good time, but I was a lot younger then.

Here is some video of us jumping the crack. This is my helmet cam footage but not my YouTube account. The guy after me nearly lost it! Hitting the other side of the crack rebounds motorcycle suspension very roughly.

Haven't had time to sort through pics yet, but here's a teaser from our first day - Widowmaker on Metal Masher...
