So a dem decided that to curb the violence at bars at closing time the solution is make last call at 7am. That may curb the violence which i didnt know was a problem. Can't wait to see all the drunk drivers during rush hour.

7am? Why not 2-3am. Less traffic, almost no families.

Doesn't matter. The people have spoken. They have to do something. It's for the children. WHY ARE YOU SO RACIST?!?!?!

I quit going downtown before I could even make it to 22. If I had a dollar for every time I was standing around minding my own business and some shithead decided that I was going to be his example for whatever cake-faced bimbo he was with, I could've bought my own bar.

Inexplicably, I managed to NEVER get into a single fist fight down there, but it wasn't for lack of trying on the other party's part. Every single time, without failure, someone would start a fight downtown on the weekend. I've seen guys KO'd cold in the middle of a crowded dancefloor, had some drunk, fat, tough guy show off his keg by ripping his shirt off and trying to walk me down, people tazed by Denver PD, you name it. But worse than all of that, I worked temporarily as a bouncer at a little hole in the wall on Larimer. The bartender had a friend of her's put into the I.C.U. because a well-known drug dealing outfit that rented loft space on 17th had caved his head in for no reason at all. He just happened to be walking by after work and they thought it would be good fun after a night out to stomp him out.

So in short, violence is DEFINITELY a problem. Letting irresponsible people from my generation get pissed up until 7 AM is most definitely not the answer.

Is it me or is the far-left doing everything in its power to keep the people of Colorado perennially stoned/drunk?

Placate the plebs, and they'll never question your motives or actions.

Don't other cities have last call at like 5am?

No commentary on the law, just curious.

The law will allow cities to decide what they want. Other than the reason they are doing it I have no problem with it.

Or and this may sound crazy... Hire more police officers. Its positive reinforcement for bad behaviour. That always works well.

I am all for this law. It allows a bar to serve 24 hours a day. Freedom to choose when to be open vs the over reaching know it all government telling you when you can operate.

The ones we visited closed @ 4 kept those they knew inside till they reopened @ 6 . Then you stumbled out to a Bright, Sun Shiney Day.

Yea. The bar closes the doors, and it's a "private party" from 4AM until 6AM. Then they re-open the doors and it's a bar again.

IMO, the should allow 24/7 liquor sales at bars and stores. Let people drink whenever they want to.

Housewife.....Anne Beatts http://snltranscripts.jt.org/line.jpg Announcer: Meet Ellen Sherman, Cleveland housewife and mother.

Housewife: Hi! I’m a nuclear physicist and commissioner of consumer affairs. In my spare time I do needlepoint, read, sculpt, take riding lessons and brush up on my knowledge of current events. Thursday is my day at the day care center and then there’s my work (http://snltranscripts.jt.org/75/75fspeed.phtml#) with the deaf but I still have time left over to do all my own baking and practice my backhand even though I’m on call 24 hours a day as a legal aide (fades out)

Announcer: How does Ellen Sherman do it all? She’s smart. She takes Speed! The tiny blue diet pill you don’t have to be overweight to need.

Housewife: And then I collect these paper bags and I have them right here, all folded and everything, in case anyone needs a paper (http://snltranscripts.jt.org/75/75fspeed.phtml#) bag I have one (fades out)

Announcer: Yes, Speed.

Housewife: (fades in) ‘cause I fold them neatly you know, I don’t fold them just any old way (fades out)

Announcer: Why not ask your family doctor for a prescription today? And when that runs out, you can ask your neighbor’s doctor. And your mother’s doctor. And your college roommate’s doctor. And your best friend from high school’s doctor. And your babysitter’s doctor . . . (fades out)

Actually 2 am is the most common bar closing time in the US ..

I know this from touring the country.

NY state, FL, and Georgia are some of the VERY few that do 4am . ( other then Vegas of course)

The reasons of safety may be stupid but if this allows bars to never close they have just returned the responsibility to us.

More laws to band aid a lack of personal responsibility. :banghead:Sent from my electronic ball and chain.Yup. Then they can draft even more invasive DUI/drunk laws off of what this will create. You're not going to reduce criminal activity by encouraging people to stay out drinking and bar hopping all night.

It is about generating more revenue from liquor sales and liquor offenders.

NH closes bars at 1 AM - in college we would always see if we could make it to a bar in Mass before 2 AM to get one more drink.

And In NOLA they close just long enough to allow the trash trucks down the street.

Tried going out to a club in Buenos Aires one night on a trip with my wife. We could only make it to 1:30 am, which means we went back to the hotel before the club opened at 2 am. They stop admission at 2:30 am and close at 6 am, just in time to go home and get ready for work.

Growing up in the Chicago area, I remember MANY bars being open 24 hrs. ...or so it seemed.
It was a bit more practical in the blue collar 3-shift a day steel mill and oil refinery environments.

To the guys getting off their midnight shift at 8:00 AM, or the swing shift at midnight-ish, it was their version of "Miller Time".

Probably not. I think ole Teddy thought it was a violation of his civil rights for the bar to close down at any time ...

my issue is with all the real problems we have in this state or in the country for that matter, this is what our elected officials are thinking will make a f...... difference and that we actually give a rat's a..

what a joke, honestly any official that thinks is something that they need to discuss or for that matter any other bs legislation that just makes them feel like they are doing their job should be removed from office.

Yeah but you're not 22 and full of piss and vinegar anymore... I hear wacky stories of parties going on until well after sun up (mostly from my brother), and it makes me think, how do they get from the bar to the house they're partying at? Better be by cab and not whoever is the least drunk. Kids these days party like they're rockstars- I've been dragged to one of these shindigs last year and I cannot keep up when they want to party until 5 or 6 am. Who knows? Makes no difference to me, I don't go to bars often and when I do I never make it to last call.
