View Full Version : Medical tip great for survivalist or every day situations in life.
I found this video and thought it was great and figured someone here might enjoy it. I am sure many of you have had instances in life where you hands have swollen and your rights get stuck. Say... you jam it in your gun somehow or smashed while working... I don't know point is: This might save someones finger here on the board.

Cool trick, thanks for sharing. It probably works better than just some kind of lubricant alone and can even be used in addition to one for really tight rings....
Main problem with swelling and tight rings is the actual swelling (edema) that prevents the ring from being removed. The rubber in this will squeeze out that swelling for a short time or just long enough to slide it off. We have tried compression gauze in the past and this just seems SOOOO much more superior. Esp once passed through the ring (if possible).
That doesn't always work but its a nifty idea to try.
I have Klein dykes in my bag

Had to help out the ER a couple of months ago. Guy had a titanium ring and got stung on the finger. The power ring cutter broke and they spent 45min using the manual one to get one cut.
Flooded it with water as I took a dremel cut-off wheel to it. Took 20 seconds and never nicked the guy.[Flower]

I've seen this done with dental floss, which worked but it took a ton more revolutions than this method.
My ring is titanium and I take it off whenever I'm doing anything mechanical or even yard work.
Video won't play for me. What's the dealio?
That was cool. Thank you.
Video won't play for me. What's the dealio?bassically tightly wrap the finger with elastic from an 02 mask from the first digit to the ring. Allow swelling to go down. Slip the elastic under the ring and then slowly unravel the elastic, taking the ring with it.
Guy in vid claims to have never had to cut a ring using this method. I assume he doesn't deal with broken digits or the emt removes any rings on broken digits before they get there.
I've tested the klein dykes on ss rings.

Agreed. He's a youngster, and while he has a handy tip, he hasn't seen enough to preach about "Never". He doesn't know what he doesn't know, yet. It's a good tip and worth remembering, but I promise, not 100%.

Yeah, Fentonite is spot on. I have cut plenty of things off of fingers, not just rings. It may work, but I would give up my ring cutter.
I'd respond better to this video if it were in infomercial format.
"Tired of cutting rings off of swollen fingers?! It's always such a hassle (a nurse is shown fumbling around with the ring saw), and your patient is NEVER happy (shows old lady deeply frowning and shaking her head)."
"Well say GOOD-BYE to that clumsy ring saw and those bad patient attitudes! With our PROVEN ring removal method, you can remove ANY ring from swollen fingers and NEVER cut a ring again!"
"The first fifty callers will receive a SECOND elastic ring removal band for FREE! Call now!"

Like blue blockers and all that other surplus medical crap they hock on late night tv as the next great invention.
Lately it's been a round of eyeglass binoculars. I literally LOL at that.

ha ha,
just had a buddy lose his ring toa doctor, he slipped off the access ladder on his semi and caught his ring in the rung of the ladder, peeled his finger, (gloving accident), i would bet that little string method does not work in that situation,

I never wore one being around high voltage most of my career.... I'm on a ladder a fair mount of time and this just saved me lots of money for when the wifey actually wants to make it a real ceremony and actually have a ring.
Well I'm sure she wants all that RIGHT NOW. But so far I have done a good job at delaying the inevitable. Maybe I should show her some gruesome accidents with ladders and rings.
