Just got this Email from Sportsman's guide:

Dear Friend,

You requested to be notified when the item Lake City .223 (5.56x45mm) FMJ Ammo was available for purchase. We do appreciate your patience. However, the manufacturer has informed us they will no longer be producing this item and it has been discontinued. That being said, you will be receiving an e-mail cancellation of your Notify Me request for this item in the next day or two.

The good news, we do have a similar product in stock and ready to ship. Wolf Gold .223 55 Grain FMG Ammo (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=1529928) is the same caliber, same grain weight and at a great price! Just click this link (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=1529928) and we will take you directly to the item where you can purchase it in 260-round, 500-round or 1,000 round offers.

Although we have stock of this Wolf Ammo now, that's subject to change so it would be best not to wait too long to pull the trigger if you’re interested. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thank you very much; we really appreciate your business!

Your friends at The Sportsman’s Guide

Love how they recommend Wolf as a replacement.
I'm guessing this is just a form letter with fill-in-the-blank manufacturer's names for whatever you asked for.

Found it amusing.

Yeah, I hope that isn't legit

Yeah, I hope that isn't legit

If it is, I doubt sportsmans guide is going to be the one to break the news.

These articles from 2012 and 3013 make me believe it is not:

Never been a huge fan of Wolf Ammo. Gold or otherwise. The metal they use in their bullets is very hard on barrels.

They have stopped producing the version with the UPC you backordered or asked to be notified about. Rest assured a very similar version will be available soon with a different UPC and slightly higher price.

Wolf Gold is Prvi Partisan. Completely different manufacturer than the Wolf steel cased stuff. Different country even. I think Prvi Partisan is a decent ammo manufacturer.

Following the Wolf link in the original post, it states "Made in Taiwan."

Not all Wolf ammo is made by Wolf...

I think there tends to be a notion that Wolf is steel cased Russian ammo, and while there is certainly a lot of Wolf steel cased Russian ammo, there's also some ammo that has the Wolf logo on the box that is anything but cheap Russian steel cased ammo. As but one example is the SK Jagd/Wolf Match ammo which is German and rather highly regarded.

I thought I read that all Military ammo is supposed to be switching to "lead free". The ammo change over is supposed to start in 2014 and be fully changed over by 2018
Maybe it is legit?

The Wolf in 6.5 Grendal is not too bad from what I hear.

Copper bullets have a similar pricepoint to high-end lead bullets, but can be as much as twice the cost of lower-end lead bullets, say experts.

Great, ammo now to cost twice as much [facepalm]

Man, those articles from the military swap are bumming me out. Maybe that will just leave a ton of lead for the rest of us? Let us hope.

I thought the M855A1 was already being issued.
