Hello guys, I am transitioning from Law Enforcement to private sector. I live in Adams county and I cannot get in to even request a CCW till march, so I will be without LEO credentials then. I have only worked in law enforcement 5 years so I do not qualify for retired LEO credentials. So, I am looking for the most cost effective way to get training that will meet Adams County requirements for CCW. It is going to be a long enough wait if I sign up in march.

Spleify is pretty reasonably priced.

I teach training with Spleify. He and I aren't the cheapest around. But I think we are the best value for the buck. If you are looking for the cheapest option we aren't for you, but if you want some quality effective training at a good price shoot me a PM. Everyone can learn something, no matter how good. Might as well learn while you take care of your requirements for a CCW

Your LE firearms training will work. Hopefully you have a certificate or two from training that you can present Adams County. If not, ask your firearms instructor to write something up for you.

Congratulations on moving on to the private sector! Don't look back, you aren't missing anything.

This isn't directed towards the OP...

This is for anyone that hasn't had any formal training in firearms.

Please, for the love of Christ, do not listen to this advice..... This is horrible advice. Hunter safety has nothing to do with CCW.

Shoot J or myself a PM and we would be happy to get you taken care of. We definitely pride ourselves on our superior training.

And no a hunters saftey course does not qualify you for a CCW.

Looks like you don't need it.

For the record hunters safety works in some counties in co but not Adams or any metro area.

There isn't anything other than LE ID, some form to verify you were LE within X time frame to apply. At least with any prior LE ihave known.

The OP specifically asked for the most cost effective way to satisfy the firearm training req., and at the time I posted my rediculous suggestion, no one offered a cheaper way of fulfilling his requirements. That's it, I wasn't suggesting anything to anyone else.
I have since learned it is not accepted though. http://apps.adcogov.org/sheriff/chp/InstructorsListRev102213.pdf
I thought it was funny that Larimer county accepted it when I got mine, of course there isn't any ccw topics covered in a hunting class.

But in doing some research, there is an actual concealed carry class offered for free. /http://concealedcarryforfree.com/free-classes/free-class-registration/
Next course is 2.01.2014, 2 seats available. This "might" work if you can't get your instructor to provide documentation.

SO, My RO issued me a letter, We will see if it is accepted. For now no further info is needed. I will update this or make a new post after my appointment in march to advise whether this worked or not.

My friend in Denver is looking to get his CCW and asked my help to find him a good instructor. I've taken him out shooting just once, but he was quite competent with safety regarding muzzle control, keeping his finger off the trigger, and not being non-chalant about it all. I'm not an instructor, however, and I'd like to see him take a class that starts with the basics.

Someone gave him a business card for "Right on Target, LLC" with the name of Tyler Johnson. Has anyone ever heard of him? I searched the forum for those names but came up with nothing.

Really I think I should just have him give J/Spleify a ring.

I belive right on target is a lecture only ccw course. If you want that just get ahold of me.

However with what you've said about your friend's experince level get ahold of J/spleify for some hands on.

I took a lecture only class and wish I had taken a better one. I had already read online everything the teacher said in the class.

My wife and I have both taken spleify's class and it is well worth it...the most valuable part is the range time after class room instruction.

My wife and I have both taken spleify's class and it is well worth it...the most valuable part is the range time after class room instruction.

I just took the free "guns for everyone" class to get my CCW renewed after 10 years (you have to take a class every ten years to renew). If funds allowed I would have gone with Leif and J but funds are tight as hell, and this was a renewal for me - not my first run through - so I took the cheapest way out to renew. My wife is interested in getting her CCW and Leif and J will be my choice for her for sure.

With that said, here's what I saw at the free class: you will get a valid certification for a permit. However, the class was rudimentary at best. There was lots of joking around, which made it kinda fun but this is serious stuff. Maybe a little less humor would be more appropriate.

The instructor seemed to know what he was talking about, but I came away with nothing new. Maybe it's because I've been through another instruction before, been carrying for 10 years and read this board almost daily, but I was hoping to get SOMETHING out of it. I really didn't. For those absolutely new to guns, this class might have SOME value, but seriously consider spending the money on a thorough course.

I think range time is critical for a new shooter as well. This was said to be optional when I signed up this course, but it was never even mentioned during the class. To be fair, the class ended at 9:30PM, so maybe it just wasn't possible, but you could always meet the next day at the range.

This organization doesn't charge anything, but it survives on donations. Anyway, that's my trip report. I hope I didn't ruffle any feathers here. :)
