The flights are being conducted due to an escalated situation on the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops. The situation on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops has been escalating for the past four days. Armenian armed forces have violated the ceasefire status 380 times, Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reported earlier.
Azerbaijani services destroyed an Armenian military vehicle by thwarting an Armenian armed forces provocation on the frontline in the Tovuz region, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence told Trend on Friday.
An Armenian sabotage and intelligence group attempted to cross the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops in the direction of the Tartar region between the settlements of Qapali and Seysulan today, Friday at 6:00, according to Azerbaijani Defense Ministry's message.
The Armenians' attempt was suppressed due to the vigilance of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. After a fierce firefight, the Armenian units were forced to retreat.
The orders and commands overheard during the Armenians' retreat were not only in the Armenian language, according to observations of servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the frontline.
The Defence Ministry reported that the Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire status in different directions 93 times per day.

Personally, I'd prefer if everyone just left well enough alone.

I'm thankful that I can view GD on a single website and not be inundated with political bullshit.

That would defy human nature. Some kind of singular, common, group thought is not ever going to happen.

I'm just curious if you're saying that only because Armenia is a Christian State vs. a Muslim State. Armenia is attacking them for what reason, only because a long time ago it used to be part of Armenia or is there another reason. Just for reference, Azerbaijan has been an ally in recent years, most likely still, and is anti-Iran, even though Azerbaijan is a Muslim state. I am not so concerned with their support of Israel as I am as them being against Iran. It could be important later.

They have been at each other since the Russian revolution. The Reds, using the excuse of chasing the Russian's white force then later to establish 'peace', ran over both countries and annexed them. Read up on Ottoman empire and Russian empire history to really understand why. Armenia was partially under both Empires. The protestants vs the orthodox internally then both being suppressed by the muslim turks (Part caused by revenge when the Balkans were killing Turk Muslims) and authoritarian Russian. During one era or another, one sided with another to fight common foe then changed position later on.

It's an endless bloodshed story which will link modern bosnia, kosovo, Turkey, Syria etc etc etc.

Bottom line, it's not as simple as the current political map.

I have no doubt. I guess my point would be that I don't agree to any type of religious expansion/attack based on religion alone. I am by no means defending Muslims and would more likely consider myself Christian, even though I'm not sure I would exactly do that (Long story). I also didn't want to seem as if I'm attack Sniper, just curious as to his thoughts. I am sure that like the majority of the countries in the area, their hatred for one another stems back to hundreds if not thousands of years ago.

Yep. There's even division between the muslims. Iran is primarily Shia and the nations that don't get along with them (including Saudi Arabia) are primarily Sunni. That split has been running since 632 AD.

Let them have at it. Its not our fight.

What would we (the USA) gain by doing anything to stop the fighting or take a side?

Exactly. Why aren't we already spending billions in taxpayer money to march over there and liberate the shit out of these people? Isn't that supposed to be our MO?

I agree that we should stay out of it and it's not our fight. However, I am sure that the leadership of this nation would disagree. I think also it would be important, tactically and politically to know what is happening if it ever becomes our fight one way or the other.

I agree! We already have enough money issues right now, taking on the burden of getting involved in yet another war is not what course we should take right now. Besides, I'm willing to be Barrack Bin Obama wouldn't side with Armenia anyway, ya know, Christian and all.
