Wear a helmet guys....seriously. A coworker of mine lost his life after a wreck last week, he died yesterday from massive head trauma. I talked to his son before he died, he was going about 20MPH around a corner, caught a peg or something, the bike rolled over him. He had been riding for 30+ years, he leaves behind many friends, children and grandchildren. He was 55. Please wear a helmet guys, you don't look like a pussy, you look like you value your life and your loved ones.
I have known 4 people that died in motorcycle accidents and none of them were wearing helmets, and all were at or below the speed limit when they crashed.
I have a family friend that is paralyzed from the neck down from a motorcycle accident. Two wheeled hobbies come with a degree of risk. For some, the rewards outweigh the risks. It's definitely not for everyone. If risking serious bodily injury or death isn't for you, perhaps motorcycles aren't your thing.

Personal Choice. Just like guns.
FWIW: i know a few people who didn't wear helmets, and lost their lives in mc accidents.
2 of them were hit by drunk drivers, being in another car would not have mattered helmet or not in those 2.
1 of them was drunk, turned in to oncoming traffic. wearing a helmet, the 77 buick lesabre won.
1 was rear ended by someone not paying attention. Helmet worn, pushed in to oncoming traffic, helmet didn't matter
3 were punched by cagers making left turns, no helmets, still alive.
I could go on & on. Does a helmet help, of course.
However to blame, or partial blame, mc fatalities on not wearing a helmet is absurd. It's as clueless as an anti - gunner saying BG checks, 10 rds or less, and a complete ban on military style weapons would reduce school shootings and crime.
Like gun violence the media focuses on Not wearing a Helmet, like an assault weapon, when neither were the actual cause of the incident.
Wear one or not your choice.
I was almost killed by a teen texting in a corner.

In the last 10 days since my accident where I posted a psa about wearing helmets, 4 guys were admitted here @littleton hospital. 2 were not wearing helmets, and one guy iPad facial reconstruction after the road rash..... It is a choice, but often it's too late when folks realize how much they have to loose by not wearing one.
btw: still beat up, but should be out soo

Agreed, however the same goes for the gun argument.
When I was in school for the Navy, a guy popped over a hill at 100+MPH. When he hit the end of the tractor trailer his head stayed in the back his body came out the front. That is the only case I have seen where wearing a helmet did not save a life or at least major injury to the rider.
It is cool to wear a helmet.

Freedom of choice. I wear a helmet. Helmets are good and save lives. It's your choice and you are free to make it.
There are also differences in helmets. Like the old Bell Helmet advert from the 70's:
If you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet. And yes, back then you could buy a dot approved helmet for under $10. I remember in 1972 I paid $68.95 plus tax for the Bell Star full face helmet. People were amazed that I would pay so much for a helmet.
Ride safe.

I laugh when I see a squid riding in shorts, flip flops, no shirt and his helmet on his back peg.

We know them better as organ donors.
Bitter Clinger, I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.
I wish, wish WISH that my Dad would wear a helmet when he goes out on his bike.
I know it's a personal choice But it's one that does not affect only you.
I realize this is probably irrelevant and makes no sense, but if I rode a sport bike I would wear a helmet. I would be way more prone to acts of speed and stupidity with that kind of power.
I fully realize the old lady in a Buick scenario is just as likely on my Harley but stoppies and wheelies are a no-go on the bagger.
There was a Jeffco Deputy killed yesterday being hit head on by an SUV that is believed to have been trying to pass on a double yellow.

Friend of mine from high school died after a minor wreck running off the road through a curve after spending 3 days in intensive care from swelling of the brain. He was not wearing a helmet and would have most likely walked away from it if he had.

He was wearing a helmet. Sad loss of life, but it does happen. It's a crap shoot every time you let the clutch out.

Funny thing is I got hurt way more on my dirtbikes than I have on my street bike.

That batman helmet is bad ass. For the record, I am not saying wearing A helmet should be law. I don't even agree with seatbelt laws, but I would wear one anyways, just saying helmets are a good idea, if Will was wearing one he would be bouncing his grandchild on his knee right now.

Wear one or not your choice.
I feel that this is a bad argument for many reasons. First you are saying that the specifics of the accident are known and at a certain point a helmet does not matter. That is true, and also true for being in a car. At a certain speed a semi will absolutely demolish any passenger car killing everyone inside, but that is not an argument for not wearing seat-belts. Statistically speaking seat-belts and helmets save many lives and looking at a study comparing the with's to without's over a long period of time would show that very clearly by a drastically lower death rate per accident.
With that said, it is a personal choice but I do not liken it to magazine laws. The OP said nothing about making it a law, just a friendly reminder. Just like me saying, don't look down the barrel to see if a gun is loaded. It is still your choice, but there is an obvious right answer here.

wow, messed up link...disregard
A brain bucket is to hold your head together for identification of your body so to say.
A seat belt is to hold you in place so the rescue personel doesn't have to chase after body parts.
The awesome pos cars they build today are designed to be coffins, that is why they want you to buy a Smart Carffin.

The friendly reminder has become a, HELMETS are the way to go when riding. I know X who wore a helmet, I wore a helmet and xxx
Take the statistics any way you want. Coming from a state that had mandatory helmet law. There were as many deaths with a helmet there as here with out, if not more.
The majority of mc accidents are due to someone "not seeing the motorcycle" turning left in front of, rear ending, drunk drivers (in cage) and two wheels, INEXPERIENCED mc rider.
The out come of said accident involves many factors.
1st being proper gear.
2nd what was involved with the mc
3rd, road conditions
4th experience of rider
5th Alcohol or drug related
6th how fast a response time for emergency vehicle on scene.
Your last sentence says it all. IT'S A CHOICE.
I don't care how one goes about protecting oneself when on the road. I do see the same "reaction" from some board members with helmets, as i see with gun grabbers. It's in your best interest to ...Wear a helmet.....ban military style weapons . EVEN THOUGH no one has said MANDATORY .
Fortunately CO still allows one to wear or not wear a helmet. Instead of MANDATING it.
FWIW: we have carbon fiber full face and 1/2 lids.
My wife's brother was killed at 18 on a MC, leaving behind a child who would never know him. The Jeffco Deputy, helmet could not have saved him, a car, probably. There is a paraplegic and a quadriplegic in MT, no impact with another vehicle, just some bad choices by the rider and two other motorists, helmets did not save them the injuries, a car, probably.
Point is that the most dangerous activity most Americans will ever engage in is driving a car, and half the people who drive are worse than average. Operating a MC is significantly more risky just due to the idiots on the roads "driving while not caring". The happiness of my family is worth more to me than the minor joy of riding a MC.

An old report, the Hurt Report, is still valuable today. Here is a link to a summery of the report:

It is still relevant today.

I'm convinced the only reason I'm alive is wearing a helmet when a Cherokee ran a red light on me. At very least it saved me reconstructive surgery.
He ran off btw...
And then there is the fact that when it's your time nothing is going to save you.

As i mentioned before. When your number is called, doesn't matter if you're sleeping, driving to work, mid stroke with the SO. When it's called you're gone.
