I thought you guys would get a kick out of this, it was shared by a friend of mine who works for James Yeager... Pretty good deconstruction of phrases like "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6," and the like.

I use a lot of these sarcastically. I got over the macho, bravado laden use of phrases like this before I made a complete ass of myself.

"I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy."

"Shoot him on the lawn and drag him inside."

"Since you're an arthritic old lady you need an airweight revolver with a long-ass 13# trigger pull."

And I can lead a rich, full, and blessed life from today forward, while never ever hearing "sheepdog" used to refer to anything that doesn't run on all fours and bite livestock on the ass.

1. “It’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.”
Depends on the context. When gun control laws are passed that remove my ability to defend myself, I will ignore them.
I don't believe the author fully understands the phrase, as he used the George Zimmerman as a bad example, I think - not sure what he meant.

2. “I carry a .45 because they don’t make a .46”
There is endless debate as to whether 9mm is more/as effective as a .45. Personally, I believe in big holes.

"I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy." <- this one while snarky is not as bad as the others. The downside to this one is it implies you are willing to take the law into your own hands.

I think the author fully understands the phrase, as he is trying to illustrate that the phrase "better to be judged by 2 than carried by 6" comes off as a flippant justification for a quick reason to draw your gun. That saying implies hat you'll take your chances with a jury, and there are overtones of assuredness that you'll be found not guilty. I believe he used the George Zimmerman case for an example because his case wasn't as cut-and-dry as the saying implies.

As far as the second, I expect there will always be debate. :)

Why are you carrying that pistol, are you expecting trouble?

No mam, if I was expecting trouble I would have brought my rifle.

Though not on the list, I really hate "An armed society is a polite society". I used to like it, until I realized that the antis understand it bass ackwards.

The way we understand it is because you carry a gun, it means that an encounter can end up with having to take a life -- absolutely the last thing you want to do. Therefore you're polite, back down from confrontation, etc.

The antis take it to mean that everyone's so scared to death of being shot over some small infraction (after all, people who carry are plugging people all the time, after all, the news carries stories about shootings every night) that you're polite because the other guy might be carrying and you're afraid of being shot.

So when you use that phrase with an anti, it only reinforces their misconception of gun owners.

Stolen from my FB feed.

If you ever break into a house, and from upstairs you hear "Finally!," followed by a locker opening, followed by "Eeny Meeny Miny Moe..."

..you chose the wrong house.

On My God, I hate this bumper sticker and the "Keep Honking, I'm reloading." It gives gun people a bad name and my mind always thinks way too far into it. Like, if you're reloading does that mean you already fired between 6 and 15 shots and couldn't hit anything? And, Why are you shooting at someone honking, is there something else going on? Or, Why is the person behind you honking, are you driving like a complete asshat, like doing 30 in the number one lane and all they want to do is get around you and now you are going to blast them.

See, a bumper sticker should not do this to someone.

While I understand his representation of #1 and #3, the reality is they are a mindset.

I will protect my family and friends to the fullest of my ability, and be willing to deal with the consequences of that course of action. I do like that he points out with #3, if you have that mentality be trained. Though, I suppose I forget the level of fanboy/idiocy out there, but if you want to be able to protect yourself or anyone else you have to train and prepare in the hope that you will never need the skills you have practiced.

Of these variety of statements I am still in love with a Dos Equis Guy meme that I saw: "I don't always fire warning shots, but when I do they are center mass"
Followed closely by another: "If you expect a fair fight, you have already lost"

I'd rather not be shot with anything - regardless of caliber. I absolutely hate, loathe & despise the jackasses who believe: "If you don't carry a .45, you aint shit". Many years ago I took a training class from a former NARC officer who was shot 4 times with a .45 (3 in the torso area) and lived. People need to get over that it's the "size of the caliber" that determines the win of the gunfight.

Really, it takes the cops 45-90 minutes to show up to anything. In las Vegas its even longer.

It may not be as bad as some of the other ones in this thread, but it's still tired from being beaten to death.

I'm also tired of "another tool in the toolbox." It may not be a bad concept, but I usually hear it from people who have limited time and money to spend on filling their training toolbox, and have no experience or knowledge to recognize that a 23-piece left-handed non-sparking metric Torx screwdriver set will be either an expensive niche item, or completely useless to them.

My peers in the middle-aged-fat-guy demographic, who spend lots of money on carbine training and virtually none on gym memberships or rolling around on the floor, are particularly guilty of this.
