I was initially turned on to this powder by an older guy when I got into reloading. I bought a few pounds for reloading 9mm and 45acp. This stuff puts out more smoke than my black powder....

what at would you recommend for a replacement. I use mostly 115-147 for 9mm and 185,200 and 230 for 45. I had some lead stuff I bought from Missouri bullet co but am done with that and will only use jacketed from now on.

Win231 is the same thing, fwiw. Unique, Ramshot Silhouette (my fav), Titegroup, Ramshot Zip (same thing, more or less as W231/HP38), VV3N37 (other VV powders too), WSF, and many others.

I want something with less smoke. Looks like a freaking wet brush fire when I do a mag dump.

Ramshot and VV powders are good. Titegroup's not bad.

Also, HP38/W231 cleans up at loads closer to the top, it's horrible at the low end of loads.

Okay maybe that is my issue. I'll try some progressively higher loads and see what I come up with.

I like unique. Plus the unique seems to meter better in my Dillon than other pistol powders.

If you are shooting lead bullets, then the smoke is probably bullet lube rather than the powder.

It's close to the same when I shoot jacketed as well. Definitely more prevalent with the lead but still much too smokey.

I would recommend Power Pistol, but there really isn't any use in making that suggestion as I can't find it anywhere. I saw that Alliant is producing BE-86, which is supposedly PP with a flash suppresor additive, but again, there is no point in suggesting it because I haven't seen any in stock anywhere. I would like to try E3 as I have heard it is producing some good results in pistol calibers. Would you like to guess why I won't be recommending E3?

At this point, whatever you can find a pound of would be worth trying. Work up loads in 10 different powders so that whenever the large cannisters become available you will be able to reload off of an already worked up recipe.
