Answer to this is probably no but cannot hurt to ask.

Is there an AR carrier & buffer setup that has a very short (<2") or no buffer tube? Something where the spring is contained inside the upper.

Oly style? Yes few of them. One brand name which I cannot think of right now is selling for $400.

Thanks, thats a start. Oly looks to use a custom upper as well. Are there any that could drop in a standard upper?

No as the recoil / buffer either is in the b/stock or like Oly and ZM, a FNC style system.

Bush carbon 15 upper has shorthened Bcg along with shorter buffer spring and weight.

If you're willing to stick with 22lr, you can build a tubeless AR pistol on a standard upper with a drop-in conversion bolt, since the action spring fits entirely inside the standard upper.

The buffer less systems that are available are: Oly (OA93), ZM/Para (LR300/TTR), Rock River Arms (LAR-PDS), and a new one from New Frontier Armory - the exp556.

Not really an AR pistol, but pretty close; Kel Tec PLR-16

I think what you are looking for is a FAL design? Like a Sig Swat 5.56.

You mean the EXP Pistol? (http://extarguns.com/)

I think the lower though is poly.

The other alternative not exactly what you stated but the shortest I found for a standard buffer tube. I am not sure is really worth it, but if you are want smaller buffer and building your own AR pistol.

Whats the appeal to the tubeless pistols? I must be missing something...

Because they are an AR minus 6-7" in length. More like an AK/Fal para in design. For some this is the ideal item but just like many things to each his own. I hated my AMD 65 with the folding stock.

I once thought it would be nice to have an AR without the extension, but the more I thought about it, having a long extension with a bit of padding (sort of like the SIG arm brace [ROFL1]) gives the shooter another point to stabilize the weapon besides the pistol grip and fore end. Leave the stock off and use a smooth extension tube, and you have much cheaper, unregistered, and perfectly legal SBR. Just pull that extension into the natural pocket in your shoulder, lay your cheek into the padded extension tube and get on target.

Besides, short barrel ARs are little flame throwers [Flame]

Hope you shave that beard first, hate the smell of burning hair.

So does that mean he has "Flamed this thread?"

Chuck speaks the truth, although some want the shorter AR for better concealing. I am not sure I would want a 5.56 in such a short pistol. 300 BLK would be much better suited for the smal AR with a "8 barrel.

I was wondering about a generic bullpup lower that would handle standard AR uppers. It doesn't work so well with the buffer tube. Asked in regards to a pistol because it seems the natural place such a thing would already exist.

Now I know. Just toying with ideas.

Thanks for the info.

Yep. Lower and lots of the parts are poly. Gets good reviews as a fun, reliable range gun. Loud with lots of flash.

Nothing stopping you from swapping in a regular forged lower, though, as far as I know.

ARAK-21 faxonfirearms.com, 12.5" barrel, not as compact, but another option.
