Seems the FS is having some prescribed burns, of slash piles, from the clear cut on West Mag.

Great pictures. Fires are always very cool to watch. They get even better at night.

Recent news report says Pine Beetle count is WAY down, but the other Beetle infestation (name escapes me) is holding steady.
Looks like most, if not all, the slash pile were touched off today. Some were 30' high. Driving down the road tonight, with huge fires on both sides of the road, was really surreal. Rough count was 37 separate piles.
No FD but I'm betting the homeowners were watching real close. The wind is picking up out of the west (not good).
No camera but I wish I had my dutch oven and some cobbler fixin's.

It might be the fir beetle your thinking of or Ips.
