Time for thermostat batteries and furnace filters!

I never ran a power wire for my POS Honeywell thermostat because replacing the batteries once a year has been fine so far, until last night. It doesn't have an audible low battery alarm and has not shown the low battery icon on the screen but I woke up this morning to a 46 degree house and dead batteries. I will be running a power wire and upgrading the T-stat soon.

Nah power stealing thermostats suck. Just change the batteries the same time as the smoke detectors. Change the filters monthly.

The thermostats we install at work in the alarm systems only last 3-4 weeks on lithium battery, I am curious about the ones that use your wifi for the phone apps, probably about the same?

Run a power wire to a battery in your attic that is fed by a solar panel big enough to keep the battery topped off. That's what I'd like to do for the blower on my furnace.

I recently changed our air filter in our furnace (remember the one I couldn't find?) It is super heavy duty and says it is washable. What is your opinion of those filters? Should I wash and reuse or just trash it and use cheapies every month?
