Has anyone ever owned one or shot one much? I have a friend offering to sell me his (lightly used Trojan) with a decent GBD factored in. I am seriously considering it but am wondering if a 5" would be better.

I am thinking my son and I would use it for steel challenge matches or maybe he could shoot SS Minor USPSA matches with it (he currently shoots Limited Minor with a G 17).

The G17 is fine, but I just like the longer sight radius and better trigger of a 1911. My son also seems to shoot a 1911 a little better than other striker-fired pistols. Hell, I might even shoot a SS Minor with it for a change of pace. I have never messed with a long slide 9 so am wondering if folks have any thoughts/experiences. Thanks.

A 6" 1911 is not legal for USPSA Single Stack because the gun won't fit in "the box" (Handgun with empty magazine inserted must fit wholly within a box with internal dimensions of 8 15/16” x 6” x 1 5/8”).

Personally, I don't believe the added sight radius is of any benefit for either USPSA nor Steal Challenge. In fact, the added slide weight makes the the gun more difficult to swing hard between targets in addition that most people claim that the front sight tends to "bounce" more after recoil.

If you do not plan on shooting IDPA, your best bet is to purchase a 5" 1911 in .40S&W with which you can easily reload for both Minor as well as Major. Minor is great for SC but, in SS, if you want to win matches, you need to be shooting Major.

Yeah, I forgot about the damn box. I got really excited about a 1911 9mmafter my friend told me about it, but the more I sit and ponder it, I don’t reallysee a good fit for it. My 12 yr old and I mainly shoot USPSA and only a littlesteel challenge and that’s primarily with rimfire. A .40 1911 makes more sense, but i would havethe added expense of tooling-up my 550 because I don’t currently have a.40. I am REALLY invested in .45 so if Iget the itch for a new pistol, that is probably the common sense answer. Thanks for the cold water - you likely saved me from spending a grand on a safe queen.
