if you could have an semiauto loader 12ga shot gun, what would it be? I am fed up with Benelli and there Customer service. Am looking at getting an something that parts and not retaredly expensive, and a wait list that's a mile long and years to get anything, sorry still pissed off at them

I shoot Dove and Pheasant with a Remmington and love it. It's been reliable for everything from rabbits to clays. The heavier gun combined with autoloader action makes it real easy on the shoulder. Last weekend I put 100 rounds at some clays without any soreness. Both friends shooting pump actions left the range with big bruises.

Honestly, I have an old JC Higgins semi auto with an adjustable choke, and I LOVE that gun. It's never once jammed on me or failed to chamber another round. They just don't make them like that anymore.
That said, a few of my buddies have remington 1187's and they seem to work quite well.
For sporting I don't know, doesn't nearly every manufacturer have one?
For non-sporting, the Saiga.
I have a Remington 11-87 SP super magnum. this is the most amazing all around gun you will find for the money.
I think mine was around $650 or so new.
2 3/4 inch shells all day long shooting trap...and extremely well.
3" shells for ducks and pheasants
3 1/2 shells for Geese...took 12 this year.
so there you have it, you can hunt anything with it, the price is good, this thing is extremely reliable. it shoots every size of 12 gauge you can find and cycles them great. only problems I've ever had were with my reloads when my powder metering got messed up and I undercharged a lot of 50, so they were shot out of my 870.
I have shot with friends who have winchester, Beretta, benelli, mossberg and other makes and models and all of them have loved this gun.
It is a touch on the heavy side but it is built solid. the matte finish is great for goose and duck blinds. non reflective so you are good to go.

Thanks guys. off to the store
for sd and target I use the winchester/fn practical, for sporting I use the sx2 3.5" mag by winchester/fn as well.

For non-sporting, the Saiga.
+1 for the Saiga-
I know they have a non-sporting image- but they come imported in a "sporting" configuration... you can block a mag to 2 rounds for bird hunting (or get 2-round magazines)
they come in a 24" barrel version, with a threaded barrel:
http://www.centerfiresystems.com/SAI-12IZ-107.aspx
the threaded barrel accepts an adjustable polychoke, and many have used them for hunting with great success...
they won't take 3 1/2 shells, but mine will cycle anything in 2 3/4" or 3"
it'd be lighter than an 11-87, but also attracts more attention (even in the stock sporting configuration)
there's a community at saiga-12.com that will help with any issues, and RAA (the current importer) has made good on any quality issues I've heard of..
regardless, hope you find what you're looking for...

What kind of shooting do you do?
If you shoot 3 gun and want to rank, the Benelli M2 is still king (although honestly I can't see why the Winchester/FN wouldn't work as well).

I have the 19 inch Saiga. I LOVE that gun, but I don't think I could ever hunt with it, unless it were the only thing I had. I'd much rather cut down the barrel and AK the damn thing! God bless the Kalishnakov action!

For Sporting Clays & Skeet the most popular auto by far is the Beretta 391. Very reliable and lots of aftermarket stuff if you feel that you need it.

I say run what ya brung...
I've never been much into gun snobbery... I can admire a really nice firearm, but I can also admire something that's just simple, functional, and ugly..
the Saiga's not ugly, maybe a little "scary" to some.. but any autoloading shotgun capable of emptying a 5-round mag before a shell hits the ground has something going for it...
just ordered some conversion parts and 10-round mags for mine... is your converted/reverted, or still sporting setup?

I vote for the Saiga too. Here's my old one (I wish I still had it). It was probably the most entertaining firearm I've ever owned!

mine would probably be my last or 2nd to last gun, depending on the situation.. just so versatile...
I'd think we should have a "try to jam the Saiga-12" event at the next club shoot... bring some ammo you think won't function.. (besides 3 1/2" shells)
I'll bring the Saiga-12... maybe I'll even clean the gas tube
I haven't made it to a club shooting event yet- usually busy, or don't think I have something to contribute...
we could even make it interesting- $1 per shell... first one to jam it gets the pot! if it never jams, the pot goes for upgrades!!
or not- that's not to motivation... it's just a real kick to shoot!
sounds like fun, anyway...

I'd bring a 10 round AGP mag and load it with those cheap ass winchester skeet loads from wal-mart... I'd win that pot right away!

you'd think- but not in my Saiga- it's over-gassed.... I should get a buffer and/or a gunfxr knob to better regulate the pressure... but it always functions!
I haven't used an AGP mag yet- but it cycles most light loads on setting '1'
put it on 2, and it will chuck those chap-ass empty shells about 10'
on 2, it will cycle low-recoil just fine, too.... haven't tried any of the little 1 3/4" shells yet... haven't gone out of my way to find 'em
I'm not trying to be arrogant, I just think it'd be a blast.... I won't be the least bit hurt if somebody finds something that jams it... just gives me something to work on!

+1 for saiga. Funnest gun I've ever shot/owned.

Whats wrong with your Benelli and what made you decide that their CS sucks?

the parts are very hard to find and when you do find them they are mega$$$$$. I wanted a new barrel, stock one is 28" and I wanted a 20" or 18.5 and I ordered one from them for $350 back around 11/2/08 or 11/3/08 and got off the phone with them Monday 4/13/09 to find out not only are they still not in stock, but they want $450 now, and they would not honnor the fact the the order was placed before the price increase.
Haha, I don't think they can legally do that can they? Either way, take your money and walk.

Say it...........SAY IT.............SAIGA [ROFL1]
68Charger,
I have tried to jam mine, using different ammo too. Have not succeeded yet. Have not tried everything, but I am working on it.
One thing I REALLY like, is that I can shoot it a BUNCH, and come home WITHOUT my shoulder having zebra stripes on it. The Kalashnikov action seems to absorb a LOT of the recoil. Have not tried shooting skeet or trap with it....yet.

+1 on that. The recoil is nil compared to my 870. I haven't converted it to Ak specs yet, but I'm gettting there. It's stock for now.

can the sporting one be made to look like the tac one's?

Yes, it's very easy. Check out www.saigatechusa.com (http://www.saigatechusa.com)
I really like my saiga. I have a bunch of surefire 12rd mags for mine. I used it at Hosers first steel match this year and it ran great. the only thing I would like to do is put the poly choke set up on it.

68Charger,
I have tried to jam mine, using different ammo too. Have not succeeded yet. Have not tried everything, but I am working on it.
I worked at it, and finally get a FTE (not really a jam, since it was cleared by the bolt easily) incorrectly setting gas port at '1', using low-recoil 1oz shot, and shooting from my hip (no support)
set it on '2' and couldn't get it to FTE no matter how loose I held it..
the stock sights aren't the greatest- but the IZ-109 comes with a AK side mount for optics/red dot/etc
some parts would be hard to come by (right now barrels are an RAA only item), but kingarmory is working on (prototypes out) custom barrels... rifled, long, short, remington choke threads, extended forcing cone, heavy barrels, light barrels, etc... whatever options you're looking for, supposed to be available by fall

Yep, I think you'd lose that pot.
The Tromix S12 I used to have (reminder, never sell a gun you like) would bang away on the cheap ass winchester walmart ammo all day long.
mine would probably be my last or 2nd to last gun, depending on the situation.. just so versatile...

I'll bring some. your saiga will be no more though....I would wear some metal plated gloves[Coffee]
or some that are so weak they won't cycle the action.[Tooth]
still, go buy yourself an 11-87
if you are going to use it to hunt birds, you will want a sporting gun.
Saiga is fun to shoot, but not at pheasants launching going 60 mph, or ducks flying by at 45 mph, or geese that you will only wound and then have to fight to kill or run after and shoot again.
take it from experience.
if you want a fun gun where you can simply BLAST targets, then get the saiga. hell, I shoot clay pigeons all the time with a pistol gripped 870 and mossberg 500. that takes skill and it is fun!

no fair hand loading shells beyond pressure specs.. [Beer]
I haven't used my Saiga for bird hunting- would imagine some pattern testing with a choke at the very least would be prudent...
it's known for having a very DURABLE barrel, but I don't think they put alot of effort into a smooth forcing cone...
I realize that a quality shotgun barrel is more than durable...
