I am looking at getting a ccw in adams county, it looks like it will cost $350 for a ccw. $152.50 for sheriff office plus a $150-$200 for a class.
This what everyone is paying?
Seems like a major ripe off to me.

Don’t forget the new firearms to buy, got to get some ammo and a good CCW holster than go out and practice, practice, practice.
So in my case $350 was just the beginning .

Yep, $75 for the class for me as well.

I got mine before the class was required, but the rest sounds about right.

I think the class was $125 when my wife got her CCW.

Yep. Would you go so far as to say unconstitutional? As Uncle Ted says " The 2nd Amendment IS my concealed carry license."

Isn't there a pending bill here in CO that permits CCW holders to skip the NICS?

If that were the case, it would be worth the price of admission right there.

Waiting 30-minutes for an "instant" check was bad enough. Lately its more like 24hrs.

The 2nd has been mine for my entire life, now that we have the multi-state ccw I was thinking of conforming before i am unlucky.

As posted in another thread, it's passed in the Senate, headed back to the House for approval as amended. Only permits issued or renewed after 1/1/10 would qualify. So mine (issued 3/09) wouldn't fly unitl I renew in 2014 [Mad]

This is nice and I support it. I however never need to run to the store for a gun in an emergency, so the wait has not been a issue for me.

Irving

The background check issue actually has nothing to do with wait times, regardless of supporters realize it or not. It is a much more complicated issue. I also support that bill as well.

I come from a state where, in the early 80's, at the age of 14 or 15, I went to the local hardware store and watched my buddy of the same age, buy an SKS for $60 bucks. He handed the clerk his cash and the clerk handed over the brand new Norinco. That was it. He still has the rifle and neither of us have ever been in trouble with the law. That is the way it should be IMHO. That is the whole intent of the 2nd, IMHO.

Ah the good old days, back when people ran wild killing everyone in the streets with those cheap chinese rifles loaded with armor piercing-cop killer steel core ammo.
Thank god the red commies in out gov saved us from those days.

How long was your process - from the time you contacted the county until you received the permit?

xjtwo
04-21-2009, 21:19
Speaking for myself, it took 10 weeks (LONG weeks) and it cost me 202.50, 50.00 for the class and 152.50 for the processing fees.

Waiting on mine... 90 days... and ticking.

COemtbuddy

Mine took 82 days through Adams County. Which is crap because the state already has my fingerprints and a back round check by the CBI for my EMT certification.

$252.50 for me.

I hope 1180 passes. It will show the elected puppets know we want things done. even if it is a weak bill.
I don't think we need background checks to begin with. criminals will get the guns no matter what. it is one more step we have already taken toward registration.

You need to start making phone calls. The law says that the state has to make a decision on your permit within 90 days. Call now and I'll bet they'll "look into it" and it will be available the next day.

If that is the case, I will probably just wait until after then to get one.

Just pay $10 for a hunter's safety course, it works for the CCW requirement.

Irving
05-02-2009, 14:05
THE ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WILL NOT ACCEPT HUNTER SAFETY CERTIFICATES, as they do not meet the requirements of the CRS statutes. We also consider inadequate, any classes that do not provide the applicant with actual, practical live-ammunition range time. Please call the instructor and confirm the level of training any instructor supplies.

From the Adams County website.

Sorry, didn't know that, I'm in El Paso County. I figured it was the same statewide.

Irving

For what it's worth, even though the Adams county website says that a class without live fire does not qualify, I've heard from people here that they don't even ask, so it's a non-issue.

theGinsue

I did a little checking on this today as it applies to El Paso county.

While it technically will suffice for your CCW permit if the training is less than 10 yrs old (as with all CCW classes), El Paso Sheriff Maketa does not like accepting the Hunter Safety Education classes as they really don't go over things lilke when you can/should draw your weapon, when it's okay to shoot, etc. The Hunter Safety Education classes are specifically targeted towards hunting safety.

so if i get my CCW in weld, i cant carry in larimer? i'm completely new to this, so sorry if this is a stupid question

Answering the original question, here's my current costs:

$152.50 for the permit/application
$200 for Class (Anthony at CO Shooting Sports in Greeley)
$160 Ammo for class (live fire portion)
$550 G27
$60 BladeTec IWB holster

So as I total, I'm over $1,100 to protect myself, and I'm prohibited to carry on campus, where I spend the majority of my time. Gotta love it![Rant1][Bang]

I have a question.

I have a currently valid Texas CCL. I took the class in 2006, and still have the paper certificate. Is either the old class (given by someone who meets Colorado's instructor requirements) or my Texas CCL valid as proof that I have taken a training course, or do I have to drop money on it again?

Pancho Villa

You can carry statewide. Except in boulder, not because it's illegal but because we revoked their claim as being part of colorado, drew a circle around it on the map, and labeled it in red marker "nuke here". No offense to the boulder members, we would take the time to evacuate you first, and relocate magpul as well.

Answer: I'm full of crap except for the first sentence.

This is a confusing post. "I'm full of crap except for the first sentence" includes itself as being "full of crap" so are you, in fact, full of crap except for the first sentence? Maybe everything but the first sentence is valid. Maybe its all valid.

AHHHH! [Bang]

Not a stupid question.

Find the answers here (http://www.michie.com/colorado/lpext.dll?f=FifLink&t=document-frame.htm&l=query&iid=5ae26baf.54ec967d.0.0&q=%5BGroup%20%27t.%2018,%20art.%2012,%20p.%202%27% 5D)

Pay careful attention to section 18-12-2-214, as it outlines exactly where you may or may not carry with your permit.

I have a Texas CCL and it was good in Colorado until I got a Colorado Drivers license which made me a citizen of Colorado.

I used my Texas training certificate to get my Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The requirement was that the training had to be within 5 years of application. The training did not have to be in Colorado.

Now I have a permit/license from two states. :)

A concealed handgun permit may be denied by the sheriff or his/her designee under Colorado Revised Statutes 18-12-203 (2) for “a reasonable belief that documented previous behavior by the applicant makes it likely the applicant will present a danger to self or others if the applicant receives a permit to carry a concealed handgun . . .” emphasis mine http://www.denvergov.org/CriminalInvestigationsDivision/ConcealedWeaponsPermit/tabid/392270/Default.aspx

Unless they have a good reason to deny you they will have to give you a permit.
