I am considering upgrading to an electric prep center, I also want a trimmer so I was looking at the combos but holy crap! Even the RCBS and hornady are expensive! So if I go seperate and get a manual trimmer ($80-$120) and then an electric prep center ($90-$120) what is the best? I still don't wanna spend that much really. I was looking at the Lyman, but not sure which is best, Lyman, RCBS or ?

You do realize, sooner or later you are going to spend money. I just saved and cried once, OK 2x, but it was worth it. Enough so i can now part with spares to other reloaders ;)

I have the Lyman universal trim and a Lyman prep station. It saves me tons of time for the amount I do.

If I had to do it again, wasn't prone to impulse buys, and wasn't going to drop $450 on a Giraud as Jim is alluding to, I would probably have ordered a Forster, the 3-in-1 cutting head, and the power adapter for around $175. I like my Lyman setup, but with a Forster 3-in-1, you're really only going to use 1 to 3 heads in the prep station to ream, clean, and uniform the pockets on rifle brass. A press swager would negate one of those and is the "proper" way to swag the brass.

While I was alluding to the giraud. Nickel and dime purchases cost more in the long run. It's buying a scope, till you can afford a better one. By the time you finally mount the scope you've wanted. You have 3 - 4 scopes collecting dust, with more spent on them, than the scope you wanted, but couldn't afford.
I speak from experience, more than one time.

You know it brother. With all the nickel and dime I've spent on gun stuff, I could have bought a couple Barretts and been done with it.

P.S. Wanna buy a scope?

Sure, swap you one i have for one of yours. UNLESS you're in need of a holster, those i might have a few extras ;)

I don't load rifle very often so their is no way in gods green hell I am paying $400 for a trimmer haha. I might drop $100 on the trimmer and a $100 on the case prep. But really as a hand gunner I need a chrono more then both.

I have one of the Lyman prep stations and it's good for the money, I like it. I had an RCBS a while back and it was good as well. I also use a Forster trimmer and it works good but is labor intensive. I'm also planning on getting a WFT for 223/556 since it's my only high volume loading, and keep the Forster for my precision loadings. Although I've considered going to a Wilson for that.

I have been particularly interested in this trimmer setup. Its not yet released but it looks to be good, but time will tell.

I've got the Forster trimmer and it's great. I bought their 3-in-1 carbide cutting head, and once properly set for inside and outside chamfer depth, it will save you a lot of time. The member I got it from stopped using it when he got a Wilson trimmer for his 6mm PPC benchrest loads.

That Frankford Arsenal Platinum machine seems to be $199.99 where it's in stock, and $150 or thereabouts where it's out of stock!
