View Full Version : 4th annual CO-AR15 club Shotgun Fun Shoot
It's that time of year again folks, It's time to pick a date for the 2009 CO-AR-15 Shooters Club 4th Annual Shot Gunners Fun Shoot! The event will be held at Colorado Clays Shooting Range http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php (http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php) and they’re open to the public and memberships are not required. CO. AR-15 Club Members, Family & Friends are all welcome to join us in a fun filled day of Sporting Clay Shooting. Don’t worry beginners and first time shooters will be mixed in with more experienced groups. Non- Shooter, Spectators, and Score keepers are welcome. Gun Club and Range Safety Rules Apply and will be posted at a later date. A variety of Clay Target Shooting is available Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clays. We prefer to shoot the Sporting Clay Course, (similar to golf where each group moves between stations 1 thru 15.) Scores are kept on a score sheet but, they are meaningless because we’re just shooting for fun. We’ll Shoot 2 (two) rounds sporting clays with a lunch break in the middle. You may choose to shoot only one round or stay for both. The first round starts about 9:30am – 10:00am with Lunch around Noon and the last round starts about 1:00pm and is described as the (Evil Black Shot Gun Round) but if you don’t have one don’t worry shoot whatever you got it’s okay. We usually plan it in May or June on a Saturday from 9:00am to 2:30pm or so. Please let us know if you would like to attend and how many. I’ll check with Colorado Clays and see what their event Calendar looks like so I can post a couple of dates to choose from. Majority rules on which day it will be held. [Clays][Clays][Clays]
Every Saturday in May there’s something going on at Colorado Clays so, June 6th looks to be the best day for the shoot. There are no tournaments that day. Any takers yet?[Clays]
If I am not in eastern NM shooting long range rifle, I am in.
I will be getting off of a plane that morning but would love to come & shoot if I can. Plane lands around 7, so I should have enough time to get my gear...
Sounds fun. Haven't shot clays in years, and probably terrible! I'm gonna try and make it but will know for sure at a late date!!
I'm interested in trying this out especially since it is so close to me. I've never shot clays or anything like this. I do have a Sagia-12 so not sure how well it will do but should be fun.

I'd love to come and play, never have done much shotgun work, and would love to try. Might even get the kids/wife interested in it. I can't make the middle of june though... so the 6th is probably good for me... if it helps any.. kc.

I might be in depending on which Saturday it is.
What's the cost for this event, what they show for prices on their website? Also, does the price include the lunch? Sorry I'm just broke and trying to save up for a "evil black shotgun"
Depending on price I'm willing to go!

We shoot 100 shots per round for 15 stations. It will cost 36 bucks for 100 clay targets, bring your own shells, eyes & ears and lunch and save some money. They do have rentals, (Guns, Carts, and you can buy shells there too.)

Do they sell 16ga shells? :) I assume target loads only? I'm not sure if I can find target loads for the old model 12 pumps in 16ga... (if I can make this event, I'll be going "Retro" or old school I guess)
kc.
I've got a shotgun for clays I just wanna save for that nice home defence shotty! Anyway, I will try to make the first round!

You mean a Saiga 12? If I go, that's what I'll be shooting[M2]

Gnihcres,
Most ranges limit shot size to 7 1/2 to 9 only. You should call the range to see if they have any 16 Ga.
16 ga might be the only stuff left on the shelf these days.
Charlie
You might want to check Gander Mountain on Abilene in Aurora...all they have left is fishing gear and shotgun shells...
[Clays]Don't forget to stock up on shells! 3 weeks and counting.[Clays]

Told the wife about it, looks like the kids are going to the grandparents, she wants to go too. June 6th?
Yep! June 6th at Colorado Clays http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php (http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php) At 9:30am start showing up and the first group will shoot around 10:00am. We should have groups of 6 to 8 shooters with a couple of experienced sporting clay shooters to help with the scoring, rules, and getting familiar with the course to help keep the flow going. I'll post a list of basic information the week before the shoot but in the meantime we should make a list of who will attend this historic event. Okay I'll start and you can copy & paste and add your names to the list and pass it along. Thanks, Larry [Clays]
1. (Wallary) & my Wife
I gotta drop out...totally forgot I leave town for a week on the 6th :p

With this being about 10 minutes from me I'm definitely going to show up. I've never done this before and have a couple quick questions.
Since the only shotgun I have is a 19" Sagia-12 would it be a good idea for me to plan on renting one of theirs in the morning?
Also what ammo would be good to bring, currently I have 50 rounds of Federal multi-purpose load, listed as 3 dram eq, 1 1/8 oz, 7 1/2 shot. Would this be good stuff if so I'll go pick up a couple more boxes from Walmart this weekend.

The ammo will be fine, but if you don't mind not being able to reach the long birds, your gun will work too. The first time I shot clays I was using my model 97 trench gun, boy did I have a sore shoulder!

Question: Looks like 16ga target loads are in limited supply, but if I do come, I'd like to use my grandfathers 410 pump, will it work well for this? I can locate shells.

It can bust clays, but you will be throwing a lot less shot. If you do good we will all know just how good you really are![Beer]

4. (gnihcraes) Kelly and possibly son (Garrett) and friend for the heck of it.
I'm not a positive for attendance yet, wife is still pretty ill (bronchitis), mother in law is having more heart surgery as I type this... just not sure I can make it. Will try though. Also have the Tanner gun show... and I would really like to get some primers!@$%
Would this be a good opportunity to let a 10 year old try a few Trap? shots? (basic clay shooting?)

I think it would be a great opportunity for your sons first time. Hope you wife feels better, and mother-in-laws surgery goes perfectly.

I think my Dad is going to join us, so that makes 9?
My neighbor John might join us. I talked to him today and he will let me know sometime this week.
I went over to the Brighton Walmart to pick up ammo and the shevels are even more empty then last time I looked. Plenty of 20ga, but only one bulk pack of the Federal 12ga my shotgun really likes, so I also picked up a Winchester bulk box.
Here are the plans folks, Check out the Colorado Clays Shooting Range Web Site at: http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php (http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php) to get directions. Get there at 9:00am or so, and get ready to start shooting around 9:30am or 10:00am Here's a check list that you might want to consider.
Guns –For the FIRST ROUND, bring your regular old shotguns, Tactical, ECT.
(Whatever you got,) you can use 410, 28ga, 20ga, 12ga. Every gauge except for the 10ga it’s not allowed.
Bring enough shells for each shooter. 100 shells per round 7 ½, 8 shot lead.
SECOND ROUND is the EVIL BLACK SHOTGUN ROUND, (optional)
You can use either gun on both rounds it doesn’t matter it’s all for fun and friendly competition.
Think about how you’re going to carry everything through out the day.
Eye Protection, Ear Protection, is required.
Water stations and port-o-let bathrooms are on the course.
Bring your own sack lunch and we’ll take a break around Noon – 1:00pm.
Mix the groups up if you want for the second round and have fun.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. June 6th (this coming Saturday)[Clays]

I'm still planning, Son and I. But it appears I've acquired the family sinus/head cold... we'll see how it goes in the next day or two... I might be miserable enough to stay away... kc.
Looks like a pretty nice day for a shoot on Saterday. I'd like to know who all will be there, so we don't wait on someone that dosen't show up. PM me and I'll give you my phone number. The phone service works all the way there except for the last mile or so. If you need to call do it before 8:45am on Saterday or call the clubhouse @ phone 303-659-7117 and tell them your with the Co-AR-15 Shooters Club. They have picnic tables in front of the Clubhouse and that's where we'll meet. I'll have my Co-AR15 T-Shirt on. See you there!
Looking forward to this tomorrow. Haven't heard back from my neighbor or friend yet, but I'll be there for sure.
They also have BBQ's so bring your own grillins if you want and pop & vending machines. [Clays]

You guys can rent a golf cart there for 10 bucks. I might get one too, I usually walk it and push my gun cart with all my stuff. See ya there! Larry
I had a blast today. I'll pull the group pictures taken after the 2nd round off my camera tonight or tomorrow and post them.
Thanks Al _G , That was fun. You guys shot pretty good for your first time out there, alot better than my first time. I want to do this again real soon. Let's start planning for the next shoot for later on in the summer. In the meantime let me know if you want to shoot a round and I'll try to meet you out there. Take care, [HiFive]

Had a great time! First time doing this, greatly appreciate your help Wallary. Good to meet all of you... Kelly/Garrett.
Garrett had a good time at the trap range, he hit about 8 of 25. Not bad for the first time. Great timing to have the youth coach there the first saturday of the month, worked out great.

Yep, i've talked to a couple of friends, who don't even own guns, they are interested in going... so we'll be back. It might be later in july before I get there again though. I'll buy up some more 16 ga shells when I troll walmart over the next month or two. (not sure if 16ga will get re-stocked?) ha.
