I was talking with a neighbor who said he went to purchase a new AR at Gander (previously purchased handgun there) and was told he could not buy because they came with 30rd mags. He told the clerk to remove the mags and he would just purchase the rifle but still no go. Is this the new normal for our great state? Or was the clerk uninformed of the new rules?

Not normal, but I'm not a big fan of Gander. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a new policy they had. They have plenty of dumb policies/practices.

Most all shops will pull the mags and sell you the gun. A limited few extra nice shops will replace the 30s with colorado compliant mags to help you out even more.

Why do people shop at GM? Why do people then post about bad experiences at GM?

Tell your neighbor to go to a real gun shop and quit wasting his time.

I hear you guys on Gander, that is exactly what my neighbor said the clerk told him, "Store policy" . Is Cabelas the same way Bass Pro? If so looks like the small gun shops will be the beneficiaries of idiotic "Policies" from the big chain guys.

Good point. I choose not to shop at all three of those, at least for firearms. If I want to use a big box store, I'll use Buds (or similar) and save another 10% or so. I wouldn't mind using a small shop either if I had something around me.

Who's buying AR's? Thought those peaked out 4 months ago.

I had a friend try to order from Buds Police Supply last week and they would not sell it due to the mag. Asked if they'd pull it and they said nope. Kind of sucks. I like Buds.

Hook your neighbor up with one of the AR's being sold here, pretty good deals to be found.

I like our northern shops that replace the magazines with "mag rebuild kits" lol

After reading other posts... some think that is a bad idea. I think it should be the standard.

I don't shop at Gander but this sounds like a misunderstanding by either the employee or the neighbor. If they have indeed stopped sales in Colorado there would be no reason to stock them on the shelf.

F- Gander !!! They are so over priced on every thing they sell. 300 RUM ammo. Found it $10 less at Sportsman's Warehouse. Same brand, grain, etc. I asked if they would $$ Match?? They said NO. SMWH was out of stock. GM had it. No match. WTFO??

No need to match if you can't get it at that other place right?

Many sellers in Gunbroker sell you the rifle without the mag. In BassPro we have all ARs with 10 rounds mags, simple! BUT becarefull because the idiots from the Main Warehouse sent us some models "California Compliance" which have something in the mag release that not permit remove the mag easily BUT with $15 and 5 minutes you can fix it. We have some M&P 15-22 with 25 rounds mags converted to 10 rounds, just took me 2 minutes to see how simple is to remove a pin inside the mag and have a 25 rounds.

I don't know who\what is Gander but as a folk here said: Have the rifle in stock and don't want to sell it to locals? Hahaha soooo smart!!!

They're still in business?

I go in there from time to time in Aurora to see if there is anything worthwhile. Usually isn't, but it's close to me in Aurora and I can get targets and the ammo is usually at least cheaper than buying at the range. Their firearm prices are way above Bud's, but like others said Bud's won't pull a mag to ship here.

Has this been confirmed or is this still "a guy I know says" story? I'm not saying Gander is a great place to buy but I refuse to believe they're stocking rifles just for out of state buyers.

And since you can't purchase them out of state, how do they expect to move any product?

I wandered in there yesterday after work just to poke around since I've never been in one and am new to the area. Without knowing it I confirmed this. I was asking about the ARs because I want to get into 3-gun and the guy asked if I were a CO resident. I said yes I had just gained residency about two weeks ago and he said that he couldn't sell me one because of the magazine capacity. It didn't bother me since their prices were higher than I was willing to pay but I found it odd. I'll stick with Cabela's, Bass Pro, and Sportsman's as my big stores and smaller shops as my gun shops.

I'm calling BS. I was just in there a couple weeks ago, checking out some AR's. The salesman was more than willing to sell me one. We didn't discuss residency, but I'm going out on a limb and saying that if being a CO resident was an issue, he would have inquired.

I wonder how many none-Co residents will visit their store in CO? Let their gun collect dusts.

So curiosity got the best of me and I just called them.

Yes, they do sell AR's to Colorado residents. With that said they pretty much only have NY complaint type AR's in stock. So no threaded barrel, collapsible stock etc.

So there you have it. Not that I would ever shop there personally but they do sell AR's.

In their defense...

To keep their prices so low, many of these online places don't stock the items. They take orders and have them drop shipped to the FFL from manufacturers or distributors.
EX: Atlantic Firearms is one of these.

Thus, they don't ever have an opportunity to "pull" the mags. The distributors and manufacturers won't do it for them, either.

If I can't find a fellow forum member selling what I'm interested in, I go to Rapid Fire Bunker in Littleton.
