Recoil Buffer for 10/22

I have read through a lot of other threads on this and most of the them said that this is usually the first fix they do on their 10/22? I was just curious if any of you have done this? I read that a 1/4 nylon bolt, 1/4 Derlin Rod or 1/4 Polyurethane 90A work just as good as what they sell on Midway? So I went to my local plastic shop (Fort Collins Plastics) and got the 1/4 Derlin Rod, two feet for $0.63/ft. The buffers online are 9.99 + $9.00 for shipping lol. All the reviews on the others said they work just as good, again just curious if anyone here has swapped out the metal for the plastic ones?

I have poly buffers on all my 10/22 rifles. I think it helps a lot. I have some extra ones if you want to experiment to see if it is different than the delrin rod.

I used a piece of plastic tubing around a rol pin. I also have delrin rod cut to length. IF you spend some time on RFC, there lots of "tech tips" for the 10/22 that are do at home projects. radius the rear of the bolt is one, as is relieving some material from your bolt hold open. It allows you one the bolt is locked back, you insert fresh mag and pull charging handle. No need to pull handle and press release anymore.

They are from various firearm aftermarket manufactures, they are all basically the same just different colors of poly I think I have orange, black, and translucent blue. More than once I have forgotten I have them and bought them while purchasing other parts. I also seem to always buy a package of 2 or 3 thinking I'll use them or give them away.

I think I still have one that is poly tubing around a steel pin like Kazoo posted as well.

Thanks Kazoo, Yeah I bought the guardian that does that, for the bolt, locks it back and can release without the press release.

Yes. It's quieter which is nice if suppressing the rifle...but it's still far louder than a bolt action .22 with can.
