I have a new Gen 4 Glock 17 that is consistently shooting left. Has anyone ever seen this before? There is a lot of traffic on the web about this very issue, but I am not finding many practical solutions. Am interested if anyone else has on this forum has experienced this problem and what some of their solutions were. And no, my G17 does not have adjustable sights. Is it a big deal to install adjustable rear sight on a Glock?

Also, FWIW, I am pretty sure its not me. When testing, I used a variety of factory ammo and was rested and very conscious of trigger pull.

Thanks Husker

I've got nothing. I tend to shoot a little to the left myself. Especially with Glocks for some reason.

Change your grip. I'm unable to link / paste a copy of the target with POI and what to correct for it, at this time.

Do you shoot left with all pistols? Why eye dominant are you? More than one range trip? Installing adjustable sights is no big deal. I have the tool if you decide to get an adjustable sight I can install it for you.

Just tap your rear sight slightly to the left

I was just looking at this very same thing about 30 minutes ago. I have a g26, g19, and g17 that all seem to shoot "left." My last range trip I was shooting like I normally do. I decided to change my trigger pull and grip and voila, it shoots straight. Now I am having trouble teaching my self to grip different and use a different trigger technique.

I can't say this is your problem but might be worth checking out. You can also have someone else shoot it and see if they have the same results. I adjusted the sights on my SR22 to accommodate my shooting left problem and now I had to adjust them back since I changed how I shoot.

Try dry firing your glock at a well lite wall and see if the sight moves at all when you are done pulling the trigger. I noticed right away that I was slightly pulling it to the left.

If he follows Kelly's and my advice , he doesn't need to do anything to the sights. At least till he corrects other things, first
Just like southpaw.

Take calipers and measure rear sight to insure it hasn't drifted.

Unless this gun has aftermarket sights AND +25,000 rnds through it and/or you are dropping it on concrete often... I say it's your trigger pull.

I've met several people with the same complaint you have- 15min of trigger/grip fundamentals later and I correct their problem.

Just tap your rear sight slightly to the left

That's going to make it worse. It would need to drift right.

LEAVE THE SIGHTS ALONE Till you work on grip, sight picture and trigger control

Thanks guys. To answer a few of the good questions asked in the replies: I mostly shoot 1911s and S&W revos and they are POA-POI (within my limits of course); No, this has been an ongoing trend over several trips to the range; I have not had the chance for another semi-competent adult to shoot it - but what caused me to notice the issue was my son shooting L; i took the pistol from him and hit L as well. Same thing when i sat down at the bench and really rested it and concentrated on sights and trigger pull.

I will keep experimenting, and i honestly hope it is my trigger pull. I'm just a little skeptical after resting it and focusing as much as i did and still shooting left. Obviously, next step is to have a someone else shoot it and check results.

You should let me shoot it. If it shoots left for me it's probably OK.

This was very helpful for me to cure some low-left. 41101
Good luck.

I learned a lot from this book. I suspect it is grip and trigger as noted above by several folks. After one read though, my groups got noticeably tighter. :)
A year later, I'm reviewing the book again.

One other thought since you specifically mention Gen4: Have you tried the other backstraps?
I shoot my Gen4 more accurately than my Gen3 of the identical model, largely because of the built-up backstrap and my huge hands. $0.02

Definitely worth a try and worth having a range officer put a few down range too.

I have a G23 Gen 3 and have always shot left and a bit low, just thought it was me. I recently picked up a Gen 4 G20 and the grip is obviously larger, so I thought it might be even worse. Just for curiousity I tried the small beavertail grip(still enlarges the grip OD though) and I'm nailing shit dead center with a little more speed. Now I'm thinking about how to mod my G23 grip to match the G20. I guess it's an excuse to get the gen 4 , nice!

2 out of my 4 Glocks (17 & 19) shoot waaaay left. The rear sight is drifted noticeably to the right to shoot POA.

Yes, these are tight groups, I'm not driving the muzzle to the left when I pull the trigger (many years of competitive shooting, I know when I make those mistakes).

That said, you do need to first figure out if it's you or the gun before you move the sight. More often it's the shooter.
