To my mind this is much of what is wrong with America. What our country doesnt need is career politicians sucking at the taxpayer teat. And this jackass replaced his father. I believe this goes against everything Jefferson and the founding fathers had in mind. And it sure is wrong to me.

Like one other member has in his signature line. TERM LIMITS, one in office, one in prison.

And I wouldnt care what brand of politician he was, this shouldnt be allowed.

Term limits have a side effect of making a politician completely unaccountable. When you know you are not coming back anyway (and not planning to switch to another office) why should you give a damn what the voters want.

That is a good point, but on the flip side, they stay in office so long (*Cough*Biden,McCain,Graham,Feinstein*cough*) they become so far detached from their constituents and the rest of American society that they become an "elite" class, instead of representatives from among the people.

Yeps, with most falling somewhere in between I don't think there is a huge need for limits. Most don't spend a lifetime in there.

It does bug me seeing political families, 2x Bush, all the Kennedys, multiple Udalls, Clinton... For some reason they get elected.

Term limits: 12 years combined federal service (to include the House, Senate, or any post in the executive branch, after which they are NEVER allowed to work as a lobbyist, advisor, or in any appointed position. Nor are they eligible to contest for any .gov contracts in the private sector. No pension, no special medical benefits, beyond what would be available to you and me, 401K, etcetera.

And - all laws passed must apply to them in office as well, no exceptions for anyone in public service.

I'd much rather have a term limit on laws than on the people that vote on them

While I want to agree with this, I don't know about the last part. Can you imagine someone telling you that you could NEVER engage in a certain profession again for the rest of your life, especially if you've never done anything wrong with respect to that position?

I like the term limit on laws better. Trying to decide if it will be so cumbersome re-voting for current laws all the time, that it would make it difficult to create new laws; or if the whole thing will become such a joke that new laws will be even easier to slip in because "you can always vote out the law next session." Interesting concept.

ETA: Term limits on laws would be EXTREMELY dangerous to the Constitution though.

Unless all state and federally elected officials are equally term limited, then one jurisdiction or state having term limits while others do not is like unilateral disarmament.

In Congress, the longer they are in office the more pork they bring home for the piggies. Everybody wants some...now how 'bout you?

What about a 2-5 year probation period for all new laws? That way if studies show that the law doesn't/didn't accomplish what it was meant to, nix the law. OR, if people decide that whomever decided to limit the size of their soft drinks can go drown themselves in a five gallon bucket of paint, nix the law. After each law is reestablished after the probation period, it can still be gotten rid of the old fashioned way.

There currently is term limits, it's called vote their ass out. Problem is the majority of the voters either don't care, or stupid, or just vote based on the R or D after the name. The problem with term limits is when a good one gets in (if there even is such a thing) they would also be limited. I have no problem with them not receiving any special treatment and and having to be subject to all the laws though.

The rumor has it that his wife might run for his seat! This guy should have been gone a long time ago. He should be the poster child for term limits! I would like to say more but what good does it do when dummies keep on voting for jerks like this!
