I don't know what to say. I haven't been shooting in months. Can I get just one #@$(% box? Seriously?

I called around today and one guy said they may have some and to call back at a specific time. I called back and he said he sold out 2 minutes ago. [Mad]

Start reloading. I know primers are hard to get, but 1 box is a 1000 bullets. I will help ya get started if you ever want to learn. Sometimes I wonder if I reload to shoot more or shoot to reload more.[JRope]

P.s Green mtn guns HAD 9mm and .223(1000-Winchester 55gr)Call them never know.

I know what you mean man. These panicky douchebags are ruining it for the rest of us. I don't beleive there is anything to even worry about, if at least for a couple years while this toilet of a country is fixed first.

I'm sick of not finding any ammo, and when I do, it's outrageous.

I heard yesterday that the Lake City Ammo plant just got $49 million in upgrades to better keep up with the extended demand.

FYI - The gun room had a Stack of Small Pistol Primers, a Boxes of 9mm bullets, and a Huge Bucket of 9mm brass, but you had to buy it all as one package $1200 - looked to be about 10000 rounds if you put it all together. They would not break it up, I tried. :)

The HSM police stuff was always good to me. I went through 2k rounds of it last summer with no problems.

live ammo is pretty easy to come by down here in the springs, its the primers you cant find.

I heard someone at the last gun show was selling small rifle primers for $80 per 1K. I cant believe no one whipped that guys A$$.

Information on the ammunition shortage from the National Shooting Sports Foundation:

In order to provide the best information possible on the issue of ammunition availability, NSSF interviewed ammunition manufacturers across the United States. Here's what we have learned:
Is there truly a shortage of ammunition?
The shortage of ammunition is real and is caused by several factors including:

A significant spike in consumer demand
Law Enforcement demand for training and readiness
Department of Defense demand for training and readiness
Higher prices from commodities
What calibers are in the highest demand?
The high demand for ammunition extends across caliber lines. The increase can be seen in most handgun, rifle and rimfire ammunition and on certain shot shell products such as buckshot.
What are manufacturers doing to keep up with demand?
In order to help keep up with demand for ammunition, manufacturers are working at full capacity (24/7). It is believed that any ammunition shortage is likely a temporary issue; however, it will take time for supply to catch up with demand.
How long will it take for supply to catch up with demand?
While it is believed that supply will be increasing, the great unknown is what demand will be later in the year. Since there is no way for manufacturers to predict how long consumer demand will be sustained at its current, unprecedented level, it is impossible for manufacturers to forecast the timeline for when the current backlog will begin to improve.

Even law enforcement agencies can't get any ammo. This even made the national news last Sunday night.

Its the undercover AWB. You can have guns. There just isn't any ammo.

A guy I know on the Dallas SWAT team was saying they just got issued .22 conversions for there AR's for training.

theGinsue
04-23-2009, 22:25
Sure, why not. The Air Force has been using the 22 conversions for their Basic Training qualification training for many years (they were using them in 1985 when I went through).

Its a heck of a lot cheaper and, given the current ammo availability, a wise decision.

I haven't changed my buying habits one bit. I buy a box at a time. The only differnce is the price is to high and I skip buying sometimes and I can't shoot for fun anymore.

I have to save all my ammo for Zombies or Osama riots.

Demand will stay at its current unprecidented level until supply manages to catch up with it and finally stock shelves again. Then, when people see ammo on the shelf all the time they won't be so inclined to buy twelve boxes right this second. And demand will drop like its hot. And prices will drop like its hot as a result. Won't happen until they gear up production enough though, once you hit empty shelves in the firearm world it leads to a lack of supply panic that is 100% self-fullfilling, and can pretty much last forever. Demand will never drop when shelves are kept bare.
I think the lack of ammo supply might have a lot to do with the rise in the amount of gun owners as well. That, and what you mentioned.

I blame the obamabots who voted the fucking guy in. then when there was mention they wouldn't get to own something, they went on a panic with the rest of us wanting to get what they soon could not.

now the bastards bought all the ammo. I can't even find .22 at wal-mart any more.

i just saw a guy on ar15.com selling federal 550 bulkpacks for $35 plus shipping...[Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang][Bang]

This whole price hike/ammo shortage thing is a pain in the ass. But I was thinking how nice it is to have so many people out actively exercising their rights. This whole thing is like a big middle finger to the liberals who want to ban weapons.

We are in a recession, yet so many people are buying guns and ammo as a way of saying F-U to the democrats in Washington. That's been the silver lining for me. That said, I'm still irritated that I it's so hard find a box of 22 to go shoot rabbits at that farm.

I've had steel cased ammo break my extractor twice. I will use it if there's simply nothing else left, but It will be a last resort.

BTW, I meticulously maintain my guns. It's not the corrosivness that I'm worried about.

That's funny! PErhaps LAke City brass has a harder head section? All I know, is every time I shoot that Wolf crap out of my AR, it rips the extractor apart after 100 rounds or so. I'm not worried about it in my AK though. It was clearly designed for that type of ammo.

I'm gonna take an opportunity to plug a little store owned by my friend, Mike, in Bailey. It's a general store/gift store/coffee shop/ice cream shop (uummmm....soft serve ice cream!) called the Knotty Pine. It's right on Hwy 285 in downtown(?) Bailey. It's only 45 minutes or less from almost anywhere in the metro area and it's worth the drive for the scenery and ice cream. Great coffee, too, at well under Starbuck's prices.

He actually has a pretty good supply of ammo in almost ALL calibers. At least enough for some of you guys to get a temporary shooting fix! Mike also has several 50-round boxes of .308 for about $35.

Also, FYI, I dropped off 2k rounds of Win 9mm and 1k rounds of Am Eagle .45ACP at G&G Guns on Colfax yesterday. Talk to Warren, the owner.

Hope that helps.

WOW!!! I've put countless thousands of rounds of Wolf through various AR rifles without any issues other than the polymer stuff is a little dirty. My Kimber Warrior shoots Wolf .45 like it was match-grade stuff.

In 30+ years of shooting ARs in the military and police work, as well as in civilian life, I've never broken an extractor.

Bushmaster even lists Wolf as a brand they frequently use to test-fire rifles at the factory and they say they've never experienced a problem (see the little orange insert included with the paperwork with all their new rifles).

At .223 prices, I'll take it any day. Besides...ammo is expensive and hard to get. Extractors are cheap and easy to get.

Also, the US used a lot of steel-cased ammo during WWII and I don't recall it causing any problems for the 1911s of the day.

I'm with you, my buddy and I have fired an uncountable amount of wolf through our weapons over the years, from the old green to the new grey, we have everything from colt, to the home builds we threw together ourselves, my sig 556, and my ar-pistol, even a bushmaster carbon-15, even a fs-2000. yes it is dirty, but you clean your weapon after you shoot it anyway right? so what is the diff. we have not had one problem that I can think of. I have never shot wolf through my varminter just handloaded ammo, and when you look at the internals of it, and the internals of any of my other weapons, there is no more wear or signs of stress on one than the other. and belive me I shoot the crap out of my 24" so its not from lack of use.

ryanek9freak
04-26-2009, 19:12
Maybe I just got 2 crap extractors in a row. who knows. I'd probably still shoot it anyway, you're right about extractors being cheaper than ammo!

I've noticed too though, that the steel cases tend to ding up my brass deflector a bit more though. I solved that problem by sticking double sided tape to it.
