The wife watched two Audie Murphy cowboy movies last night. I gave her and the boy a quick history lesson about him. The son really perked up, not sure he had heard of Audie Murphy before.

Audie was the real deal.
Too bad the rest of his life he was tormented by "Combat Fatigue" and tried nursing it with booze.

thats the last thing I think of when I think of a hero.

Sometimes things seen by people who have actually been in combat cant be unseen and forgotten. I wouldnt ever fault him for that. Sometimes memories are hard to deal with.

Well played!

Roker spends some time with Taran Butler and shoots at his range a bit. I'm not suprised that he's getting better

In WWII days the Army was looking for heroes to promote and help sell war bonds back home. Murphy had the image they were looking for.
I'm sure Murphy was the real deal, but there were others that did as much, just weren't recognized and PR'd as Murphy was.
John Basilone was awarded the CMoH also. They tried to promote him into this group and he eventually wanted to go back to his outfit in the Pacific...and died on Iwo Jima.
Ira Hayes, of Mount Suribachi fame, was also thrust into this fund raising limelight and descended into alcoholism and died.

Although certainly not in Murphy's league, many people don't know that Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis Jr. were into quick-draw and shoot contests...they did pretty well.
